Unable to Add Session Host Servers to Collection

I have had a working Environment of 2012 r2 server and collections all of a sudden start to cause giving me errors with adding new servers to existing collections.

The GUI and Powershell error I am receiving is "Unable to retreive collection properties"

I have gone through numbers threads and fixes throughout this community and others and have hit a road block and need some more ideas.

My latest thread that I have looked through here. Lead me to running through the RDMSUI Tracing logs, and getting the same error notated here.

Component RdmsUI: Failed to fetch local DB connection string from server: <server running in VM (RDCB+RDLS)>.<domain>: System.Management.Automation.RemoteException: Property DBConnString does not exist at path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tssdis\Parameters.
at Microsoft.RemoteDesktopServices.Common.DeploymentModel.ExecutePowerShellScript(String serverName, String script, Object argumentList, Boolean isLocalhost)
   at Microsoft.RemoteDesktopServices.Common.DeploymentModel.IsHighAvailabilityConfigured(String managementServer)

Looking at the answers in that thread is no where near what my problem appears to be because my setup is basic.

1 Connection Broker Server

1 Gateway Manager Server

Currently 16 Session Host Servers each connected to various collections that I have created.

As I said, I have been able to until last week, been able to add and remove session host severs to and from collections without a problem, but now I am completely unable to unless I rip out the whole collection and do a full rebuild including all of the session host servers that are going to be in that collection on the initial setup.

Windows 10 HiDPI and 2012R2

Hi There,

Running W10 (latest build), and when I use MSTSC to RDP to a 2012R2 server, the DPI scaling does not pass through. What's worse is that using the Zoom options causes the window size to change to one size and the zoom to change to double that and it does not show scroll bars, so its completely useless.

Mapped DFS share shown with red X on network drive in Windows Server 2012R2 with RDS role installed

Hello everybody,

Faced with strange situation. I have DFS namespace based on Windows Server 2012R2 and same RDS server. Issue is very simple: if you map DFS share to network drive, no matter how, via logon script or via group policy, the first user which logs in get this drive ok, second logged in user gets red X on this drive but still able to access it.

If I map this drive via GPO, after second user log in I can see warning in Event Viewer

The user 'R:' preference item in the 'Test DFS mapped drive {7CDE4506-692E-422B-9299-D12CB15F7CC6}' Group Policy Object did not apply because it failed with error code '0x80070055 The local device name is already in use.' This error was suppressed.

No matter if checkbox "Run in logged-on user's security contest" were marked or not.

After some tests I recognised following:

1. If you map drive manually from Windows Explorer, second logged in user gets same red X on that drive

2. If you map drive manually and use "connect using different credentials" options and even enter credentials of logged on user, then the problem goes away.

3. So I created script which do it in following way:

net use Z: /delete

net user Z: \\dfsnamespace\root /user:domain\%username%

This works fine but I'm wonder that this bug a bit well known on Google and there is no any reaction from MS as well about this point. Could please hint me anything about this issue? I don't like this workaround and I think there has to be another way to solve this issue.

Windows Server 2012 R2 - RDWeb - MSTSC to hosts farm

Hello :)

I have deployed a Standard W2012 R2 RDS collection, in a testing enviroment.

Right now the collection has 3 servers - 1 Broker / Gateway - 2 Sessions hosts.

My questions are as follow:

When publishing a Remote Desktop connection (mstsc.exe /v hosts.domain.dk), what should i insert in the "hosts.domain.dk" to make sure load balancing will work between to 2 session hosts?? I believe a DNS round robin should work, but is that the correct way to do this or????

When connecting directly to S1TS01.domain.dk from the published remote app, my keystrokes are not "forwarded" to the session host?

If i connect directly to the session host (RDP) or from the Tab "Connect to a remote PC" on the RDweb the keystrokes are forwarded ?

I hope you can help, because the RDS solution looks like a Citrix killer - and it works really good :)

Thanks in advance :)

remote desktop enabled but server role missing

Where to find the Remote Desktop Session Host server timeout and reconnection settings?

Sometimes my remote desktop connetion on a Windows Server 2012 Standard system shuts down without reason.
I tried to check the timeout settings like in Windows Server 2008 but cannot find them.
TechNet-articles say I need to install the Remote Desktop Services role to use Remote Desktop. But this role does not exist although I am using remote desktop! So are there different types of Remote Desktop existing and where do I find the Properties?

I am using Windows Server 2012 Standard as local admin within a domain.

Adding a hardcopy of the Server Manager failed. So here are the contents in text form:

Printer problems: Some users can't print most of the time. PrintService Errors 372 / 808

$

We have printer problems on a Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS server. It comes and goes for this user or that user, and then it suddenly works, and then it doesn't and so forth. This has been going on for a week or so.

When some users try to print some of the time, nothing simply happens at the "client side" (no message, for instance). In Event Viwer, under PrintService, there arePrintService 372 errors (error code 122) when this happens. Log out and log in sometimes makes it work.

If I disable Easy Print the 372 seems to vanish, but instead there arePrintService 808 errors (error code 0xC1), "could not found plugin module C:\Windows\system32\spool\DRIVERS\x64\3\tsprint.dll" (translated from original language).

We've updated drivers, tried different settings regarding redirection, and so forth, but it just feel fleeting or ambiguous, so to speak, so it is very difficult to nail down what exactly the problem is.

Also, and I don't know if this is related, and in any case minor, butdefault printer changes on and off for some but not all of the users.

There are several printers used, both local and network printers. Users have different Windows clients. They log in with domain accounts, but some of the clients are not members of the domain.

ETA: The problem seems to be connected with printers redirected via the RDP session.

ETA 2: I've found something that might be interesting. When I logged in I could print with redirected printer. When I logged out and in again, I could not and the standard printer had changed. But also, in Application Log, there was anUser Profile Service information event 1530, that said that a process has opened key [my area]\Printers\DevModePerUser. Google hits seem to indicate that this event and my problem is connected.

ETA 3: It seems that it is the logging off that mess things up. First time a user logs in on the RDS server, he or she may print fine. Log off, log on, and the user cannot print with redirected printers, and above events are logged. If a user changes some printers settings locally, such as printing processor, it works. Until the user logs off, and on. Also, if the user is given administrator priviliges, he or she can print after first login, but not the next. (Default printer is changed after every logoff.)

2012R2 RDS Server accepts new connections after reboot

Hi,

When we need to do maintenance on a Server 2012R2 RDS server we change the Allow New Connections to "False" in Server Manager.
After the server reboots new connections are allowed on the server before the Allow New Connections is set to "True".
Is this reset after a reboot, because it looks like it?

Is this a known issue?

Kind regards,

Matthijs

WPF performance via Remote Desktop - increased performance after installing Visual Studio?

$

Hi,

We have developed a WPF application which we want to host on Remote Desktop (Windows Server 2012 R2) for several of our clients. While testing performance we found that it was very poor in comparison to running the application on a desktop computer.

We know this is due to the lack of a GPU on the server, so Remote FX might be a (albeit expensive) solution to our problem.

However, while further testing, we found a surprising and significant improvement in performance after installing Visual Studio 2015 on our Windows Server. So much of an improvement in fact, that we wouldn't need any further GPU hardware to offer a good performing solution to our clients. I'm talking 5-10 times faster loading and response times for our application.

The problem is, we don't want to go installing Visual Studio on the terminal servers of all our clients, but just the package necessary for the performance gain. After installing Visual Studio, we started uninstalling every component it installs through 'Programs & Features', to pinpoint the one responsible for the gain in performance, but even when the last component was uninstalled, the performance was still improved. If we reverted to a snapshot before installing Visual Studio on the server, the performance gain was lost again.

In other words, we have no idea what caused the improvement gain, but we would like to find out so it would make our installations easier. It could be a package, or a registry change, or ...

If anyone has any idea, please help us out :)

PS: I've already used our Silver Partner benefits to ask the same question, opened up a support incident, but they just send me from Technical Support, to General Support, to Technical PreSales Support and back to Technical Support... Noone seems to be able to give me an answer to this question.

UDP profiles cant be detach from RDS Farm session hosts after disconnect or logoff

Hi,

We have a 2012R2 RDS Farm deployment consisting of the following:

1x AD ,1x RD Broker / RD Web Access,1x RDGW,3x RDSH,1x File Server for UPD.

All of the servers are running on 2012R2. We're having an issue with UPD's not dismounting when a user is logging off.

So when this happens the load balancing wont take effect. The user can only login to the same server as before and if it login to another server it will get a temp profile because the VHDx is still attached to the the former server. There is not much on the internet and we have tried deleting the VHDx and also cleaning the registry of all the temp SID values in the ProfileList section. And also We have checked network settings and there is no loss of network connectivity between any of servers.

The UPDs are stored on a 2012R2 SMB File Server and the notable  error we can see is the one below:

Log Name:      Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager/Admin
Source:        Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager

Event ID:      20491
Task Category: None
Level:         Error
Keywords:
User:          SYSTEM
Computer:  <Computer>
Description:
Remote Desktop Services could not disconnect a user disk for the user account with a SID of <SID>. The error code is 0xAA.93

Any help on this one would be highly appreciated.

When attempting to Shadow on 2012 R2 RDS we get an Unspecified error

$

We have built a Windows server 2012 R2 RDS server, and setup the whole deployment on one server, Gateway, Broker, licensing, session host, and collection.

But when we go to shadow the user using Server manager or command line mstsc /shadow:n when get this very helpful error:   Unspecified error in a Window called Shadow Error

I have tested Shadowing on another networks server with a similar setup and it works fine, only difference is the Active directory server are 2008 vs this one that doesn't work being 2003.

I have also tested using local accounts and still get the same error, and there is not a lot on the web regarding this error and RDS shadowing

2012 R2 RemoteApp without domain

Hello,

We have 2 servers in a housing; one has RDP and the other a SQL2014; the two are running Win2012R2.

We want to install RemoteAPP, but seems that we need DC; is there any way to avoid that?; if not, where is it suggested to install DC (RDP or SQL server); I cannot buy another server for only DC.

   Thanks.

Academic Research - Remote Desktop Services CAL Licensing

$

I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to get academic licensing for clients to connect to an RDS server implementation to carry out an academic experiment.  My research has to do with machine learning based failure prediction and I need a way to generate load on a Microsoft Windows Server.  I've found a tool that generates Remote Desktop connections (which would create the authentication load I need on the Active Directory Services server) and I have a Remote Desktop Services server setup and ready with several clients, but no user licenses.

Is there some way for me to enable the connections (even if it's only for a couple of days) without having to pay for full blown licenses?  Any help/guidance/support would be greatly appreciated and potentially cited in the research.

Thanks!

For some users, the pooled VM stopped and user is stuck with disconnected status and won't be to log back into pooled VMs. The pooled VMs, there is a script when users log off or disconnect (X) the connection, VM will restart and restore. I tested it and it works fine but once a while I see this:

2012 R2 RDS Temporary Profile issue

$

I have set up a standard 3 node 2012 R2 RDS for testing. All virtualized on VMware ESXi 5.0. I have a connection Broker, session host, and web access server. I have published several applications and I can access them without a problem. Here is my issue:

When I try to log on to my session host server either locally or thru RDP, I am always logged in with a Temporary profile. It does not mater what user account I use. Even logging on locally as the administrator I get a temporary profile.

All windows updates are installed and current.

I have removed the server from the domain, deleted the account, and rejoined it to the domain.

I have deleted all .bak registry entries from here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

There is a hotfix here for a similar issue on 2012 but it does not apply to 2012 R2

The only event viewer errors are:

1515 (Windows has backed up this user profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backup profile the next time this user logs on.)

1511 (Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.)

Any suggestions to resolve would be greatly appreciated.

RemoteFX Display problems with Windows 8.1 VM but not with Windows 7 VM running on Hyper-V VDI Server 2012R2

$

Has anyone seen anything like this?

After many, many, hours of wading through and eliminating potential variables the issue has been narrowed down to being present with a Windows 8.1 VM and not on Windows 7 VM.

The problem is with glitchy display issues (Random Pixellation, Fuzzy Screen areas, Entire Screen filled with random shapes/colors etc.).

This is a Server 2012 R2 environment it is running Hyper-V Remote Desktop Virtualization Host.

  1. An Nvidia Quadro K2200 adapter has been enabled for RemoteFX and passed through.
  2. Also have tried Nvidia Grid K2 adapter. Both adapters use same driver set and multiple driver versions have been tested.
  3. Two Generation 1 VM's have been created.  One for WIndows 8.1, One for Windows 7.  All updates installed.
  4. Each VM uses the same set of Hyper-V resources, Virtual Switch etc.  (The settings for each VM are the same).
  5. With RemoteFX disabled on each VM the issue is not present on either VM.
  6. With RemoteFX enabled on each VM the issue is present on the Windows 8.1 VM and not the Windows 7 VM.
  7. There is no difference if only one VM at a time is enabled and running.  (Not GPU load related)

Good day all,

We have a Windows Server 2008 R2 running Terminal Services.

For the last three days, anytime I go to my Remote Desktop Services Manager and attempt to "Remote Control" (shadow) another user's desktop, it causes the server to reboot.

The error log shows an unknown error.

Using RDGW with AD computer groups and different DNS records

I'm trying to move all of my RDGW RAPs to use Active Directory computer groups. In testing, I've found that when outside of the network, I am unable to connect using a DNS A record that points to the hosts IP address but am able to connect when using the default DNS record that contains the hostname. When inside of the network, I can connect using either DNS name. This is 2012 R2.
