Find other users/session printers?

Hi, is it possible for an Administrator to get info about other users printers on a terminalserver. I have tried different commands and used psexec and even if the users see that the command windows is running the result is only the Administrators printers. I need to run wmic printer get name, default or Get-WmiObject -Query " SELECT * FROM Win32_Printer WHERE Default=$true" as/in another user/session and then return that users printers not the Administrators printers.

Changing Text Size For Windows 2019 RDP Users

$

It was a simple process to change the scaling of text/icons with 2012 RDP users by going to Display Settings and changing the scaling from 100% to 150%.

Can't seem to get there with Windows 2019. User is on Windows 7 so they are using an older RDP client. When you go to Display settings in their session it says Display settings can't be changed in an RDP session and everything is grayed out. Even when you hit Advanced the scaling is grayed out.

Publishing Remote Apps from Multiple Session Hosts

Hi guys, I'm coming from the Citrix world so I need to re-learn how this works, but I have a RDS server which is also a session host, and an additional session host. Both are in a collection called Test.

I have some software installed on both servers which I can publish. I have some software just on the main RDS/session host which I can publish, and some software just on the second session host which I can not publish.

I don't necessarily want to have to install the software on both. How can I accomplish this? I tried to create another collection and just add the second host but I can't because its already part of the first one I suppose. What do I need to be doing in this regard?

Thanks for any feedback.

Redirecting certain local drives to RDS collection desktop

$

Hello everyone,

We currently have an RDS collection set up with high availability connection brokers.

In our collection settings, we have redirection enabled for any type of drives and shown here:

As expected, when a user logs into their RDS Desktop, all of their local drives get redirected to their remote desktop (including any network drives they have mapped locally):

What we're looking to do is to only redirect the C: drive, the D: drive, and the E: drive. Our network drives begin on F: so that we have room for USB drives on D: and E:.

As a quick test, I've tried to redirect only the C: drive. So, I went on to our connection broker and typed in the following PowerShell command:

Set-RDSessionCollectionConfiguration -CollectionName "CollectionTest" -CustomRdpProperty "drivestoredirect:s:C:"

The command ran successfully and since we have two connection brokers, I went to make sure that the registry got updated on both connection brokers. And alas, it replicated on both connection brokers (as expected):

I logged into our desktop published by our RDS collection and found out that this didn't work. All of our drives are still being redirected. I went ahead and rebooted the remote desktop session host (RDSH) and all network drives are still being redirected.

I tried entering the command in again, however this time, I added the other two drives that I want to be redirected:

Set-RDSessionCollectionConfiguration -CollectionName "CollectionTest" -CustomRdpProperty "drivestoredirect:s:C:D:E:"

I followed the same process, making sure that the registry had updated on both connection brokers, etc. and still no results. All of the local drives are still being redirected.

Is there a part I'm missing here? Am I typing in the wrong command? Any insight would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

Windows 8.1 and RDS 2019 not working

Hello,

I can log into my RDS session on Windows 10 without issue, however using the exact credentials in the exact network on a Windows 8.1 PC, the RDS session will not connect.

Are there any other configurations or patches required for 8.1 to work?

Thank You,

Remote Apps, about RD Gateway certificates

The environment that we're building now.

Client ----(443) ---- [ RD Gateway, RD Web Access ] ---- (3389) ---- [AD DS / DNS, RD Session Host, RD Connection Broker ]

As shown in , we use two servers to implement external networks.

When using the internal network, download the certificate of the RD Gateway and install it internally to operate normally.

If the Remote Desktop Service deployment settings specify a trusted certificate by setting the external domain name (FQDN) on the public IP mapped to the RD Gateway when you try to use it for the external network, I wonder if it is possible to use it without installing a separate certificate (such as importing) such as the internal network process. I also want to use the RD Client app to make sure it's the same in my mobile environment.

++

Is the external FQDN of the RD Gateway as available at "remoteapp.rds.co.kr" when the internal DNS is currently named "rds.local"?

Constant disconnects cause RDP to be almost unusable

I have a user that uses his Windows 10 laptop to connect to the Windows 2008 R2 server using remote desktop. He was working fine for a while then all of a sudden started getting kicked off. He will connect for about 5 - 10 minutes and then get disconnected.

Event logs on the laptop are:

Event ID 1026 - RDP Client ActiveX has been disconnected (Reason = 516) - Remote Desktop can’t connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:  1) Remote access to the server is not enabled 2) The remote computer is turned off 3) The remote computer is not available on the network  Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled.

But he is able to connect so we know that remote access is enabled, the remote computer is not turned off (it's the main file server - never off), and the remote computer is available on the network or he would have never connected to get disconnected.

Event ID 226 - RDP Client_TCP: An error was encountered when transitioning from TcpStateConnectingTransport to TcpStateDisconnected in response to TcpEventConnectionTimeout (Error code:0X80004004)

We only use IPv4 so we have IPv6 unchecked. We specify the IP address and DNS settings so they are on the same network as the server. He remains connected to the network, just not to the server.

Event ID 1105 - The multi-transport connection has been disconnected.

I found an article with similar errors that pointed to inactive ports as the culprit. I checked the registry and found there were over 500 inactive ports. I ran the "fix-it" and it deleted all of the inactive ports. I will apply the HotFix tonight while everyone is logged off and am able to let it reboot. However, clearing those ports didn't stop him from disconnecting.

The event logs on the server are:

Event 25, TerminalServices-LocalSessionmanager - 1:47:14pm

Remote Desktop Services: Session reconnection succeeded:

User: ServerName\UserName

Session ID: 3

Source Network Address: Laptop's IP Address

Event 24, TerminalServices-LocalSessionManager - 1:52:20pm

Remote Desktop Services: Session has been disconnected:

User: ServerName\UserName

Session ID: 3

Source Network Address: Laptop's IP Address

This will continue like this all day. He can't stay connected for no more than 20 minutes. Some sessions are only a couple minutes. Does anyone know what we need to do to fix this?

Thanks,

Jessica

We have 2 connection broker servers and few RDS session servers in the environment managed with VHD. whenever we try to remote in,its asking to login several times even though we enter the correct password. After the third time, users are getting authenticated and was able to login with the same user name and password.

Any solutions for this?

RD Licensing Manager: Access denied

Hi All,

I am hoping someone is able to help or point me in the right direction. My google foo powers have let me down.

I am receiving the error:
RD Licensing Manager
Unable to perform operation: Access denied.

The overview is:
I have two domains "Adomain.local" & "Bdomain.local" (I know .local historic and not yet migrated)
Both domains have been joined and AD trust relationships configured and working.

Adomain.local has our terminal server licences installed. We have purchaed additional licences and added these to the rds server at Adomain.

When accessing RD Licensing Manager on Bdomain and attempting to add the license server "rds.Adomain.local" I receive the above error.

I have also tried this the other way around. ie adding rds.Bdomain.local to the Live license server rds.Adomain.local

Just incase it has a bearing:
rds.Adomain.local is Server 2016
rds.Bdomain.local is Server 2012 r2

Thanks for any help

Hello,

rds per device

dears,

I need your assistance with the below, i was deploying rds server.

Configured rds hosts and rds brokers and rds licenses servers. I issued from the license server licenses per cal and per devices.

In the collection, i added a group that contains the users who are able to connect to the host.

After testing, more than one user were able to connect to the rds host therefore the testing was successful.

however when i went to test the per device cal, i did the following i added the server from where i want to access the rds host to the collection group created earlier. then i logged in to this device using anonymous user and tried to rdp the rds host from that server, however it returned an error : the connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login which is true, the anonymous user is not added to any rds group but the server from where he tries to access the host is added to the group.

I need to understand the per device scenario, can anyone help me with how it its tested?

best regards

2019 RDSH - not able reconnect to Disconnected session, every time new session (with fSingleSessionPerUser=0)

Hello colleagues

When we are doing such config (enable multiple sessions per user):

Computer Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ Windows Components\ Remote Desktop Services\ Remote Desktop Session Host\ Connections

Restrict Remote Desktop Services users to a single Remote Desktop Services session     Disabled

We are not able to reconnect to any disconnected session that was running previously.

It seems that it was mentioned here for Inside build, but we have same...

Any solutions for this problem?

RemoteApp RDS2019 - splash screens stuck on client

$

Hi!

I am testing RDS 2019 with RemoteApp, and I have problems with startup splash screens. Each splash screen creates a button on the client’s taskbar and does not disappear from desktop and taskbar after the appearance of the main window. For example, I run three RemoteApp and I have three splash screens and three program windows on my desktop. And even if I close these windows, the splash screens will still remain on desktop and cannot be closed. This happens only in RemoteApp and does not occur with a remote desktop mode. I tried to recreate an RDS farm again, but it does not help.

This does not happen with all programs (having splash screen), but with many. At the same time, there were no such problems at RDS 2012R2/2016.

As RDCB and RDSH used Windows Server 2019 with latest cumulative update (2019-01). As clients used Windows 10 1709/1809 with same update.

RDP SSO on reconnect fails due to Network Location Awareness Identifying

$

I have found that when a RDP session that connects with Seamless SSO is interrupted, if the Network Location Awareness service decides to go into 'identifying' for even a half second, when the RDP connection goes to resume, SSO credentials do not work. However I have found that the times that the NlaSvc does not go into 'Identifying' then the connection will resume just fine. It appears that when its 'Identifying' even if I have the local policy set to 'Private' for Identifying connections, then SSO does not work. Is there a fix for this? Can RDP be made to wait or reattempt SSO credentials again automatically? The NlaSvc always goes back to DomainAuthenticated properly, even after half a second, but its still too late as RDP appears to have already tried reconnecting and fails to pass credentials at which point it prompts for a password.

I really need the reconnecting feature to work. Anyone have any ideas to solve this?

Windows Server 2019 VDI Licensing

$

I've read a lot of documentation regarding VDI and RDS, yet I am still a little confused on some aspects.

Consider my company's scenario:

- We have a Windows Server 2019 Datacenter Edition running on a physical machine with 2 8-core processors (total of 16 cores)

- All employees have Software Assurance included with their Windows OS license on their laptops

We want:

- To host Client-based VMs (Win10 mainly) on our physical WS2019 and allow employees to remotely access their dedicated personal virtual machines

- Very rarely, we would occasionally like to host Server-based VMs (WS2012RS and WS2016 mainly) on our physical WS2019 and allow employees to access their personal server virtual machines. Our employees will not need to use this scenario often, only in unique circumstances.

- None of these VMs would be in use long-term. At max, each VM would be used for a month or two. More often, VMs will probably be needed on a week-long basis, then destroyed.

To my understanding:

- We need to apply a core-based license to our physical WS2019 Datacenter, covering all 16 cores, for the hardware to be in compliance.

- We can deploy as many Windows Server-based VMs as we would like, and can properly handle licensing VM OS's using AVMA

- Employees can connect to Server-based VMs only if they have a CAL

- We can deploy Client-based VMs, and employees can concurrently access up to 4 client virtual machines at any given time because they have SA

My questions:

- Do I have any of the information above wrong? Please correct me if I do

- Do we need to worry about licensing each individual Client-based VM? It seems ridiculous to need to provide a separate product key/activation for each VM instance when they're only needed for a short time.

- Can we deploy both Server-based and Client-based VMs like this in the same VDI environment?

- Do we need to still have the core-based license for our physical WS2019 if we only deploy Client-based VMs?

- How do we go about purchasing and applying a core-based license for our physical WS2019?

Please let me know if there is any other critical information I may need that I have missed.

Thank you in advanced for helpful insights.

Appresources (Tile Data model server and State Repository Service) regularly spiking RDSH CPU Usage to 100%

$

Hi All

We have had a client of ours regularly reporting that their server is grinding to a halt, applications go non responsive etc.

While checking into their server, the main issue I have found is that the process "appresources (2)", with the services "Tile Data model server" and "State Repository Service" will spike the server up to 99-100% CPU usage, normally up from the 10-20% the server is normally running at.

The client is using Windows Server 2016 DC in Remote Desktop Services mode. They are assigned 10 vCPU, 40GB static RAM. The back end Hyper-v failover cluster hosts each have 2 x 20 Core CPU, 384GB RAM and we have moved the clients VHDX's onto our more responsive SAN (IBM v7000). We aren't seeing the same reported issues from any other hosted remote desktop servers we have in place, which are a spread of 2012R2 and 2016 systems.

I have removed all other high CPU usage systems from their host, but we aren't seeing any difference - the appresource process continues kicks the server at random intervals. System was rebooted last night, and they are seeing slightly better performance but the appresources continues to regularly spike for unknown reasons.

At the time of the spike, a number of runtime broker processes kick in, and the "system" process also inflates its CPU usage.

I have not been able to assess if its a specific user performing any actions (16 users normally) that cause the spikes and they dont seem to kick off with any other server actions (backup software, server live migrations etc).

Any pointers or help would be appreciated as I have met a dead end.

File copy over RDG slow

$

Hi all, we have the following setup in our hosted environment:

Server 1 - RDG, Gateway and License

Server 2 - Session host

They are server 2019.

If I RDP into server 1 and do a file transfer, (copy and paste) the speed is decent. for ex 2MB/sec..

If I RDP into server 2, the transfer speed goes down the toilet, like 300-400KB / sec

Connectivity between server 1 and 2 is fine, they are in the same network.

Any idea?

RDS 2019 and Azure MFA

Hello All,

I have configured my RDS 2019 environment and was successful getting it to work with Azure MFA. However this only works if I have the authentication app and I allow push notifications. Is there a way to MFA the HTML5 page so I can require pin notification?

Thanks,

Scott
