Black Screen on all new Connections, SessionHost has to be rebooted

hi,

we're suffering from session hosts that produce black screen errors in a RDS 2016 farm.

already connected users can mostly work, all new connections end up with a black screen.

to resolve the error the server has to be restarted.

i can say that

- upon checking the registry for this SID i end up at "ProfileNotifyHandler Class app id {E10F6C3A-F1AE-4adc-AA9D-2FE65525666E} inprocserver32, C:\Windows\System32\gameux.dll".

- starting explorer.exe per taskmgr does not open an actual explorer window although the process appears in taskmgr

- tskmgr, eventvwr, cmd can be started without problems

- affected users appear as active in RDS management

- no third party security software is installed

- farm is fully patched

- HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileGUID and ProfileList are ok (no old or .bak entries)

looking forward on how to resolve this without  rebooting the server or a permanent fix

thank you

best regards

Hi,

our workstations with Windows 10 pro are in this weekend updated to version 1803. For main system we use RemoteAPP aplications on Windows server 2012R2 (Windows server 2012R2 is full updated). After update on client station are RemoteAPP slower, and  right mouse button is unresponsive, or react verly long time...

It is a big problem for us.

PS: after replace mstsc.exe and mstscax.dll from older version Windows 10 is all OK. but this is not a solution.

Thanks.

RemoteApps visible to ALL users

Hi,

We have just start to add extra capicity, for our RDS enviroments.

Previous we had 2 connection brokers, and 1 server hosting the Gateway / Web access server.

We then added 2 new gateways, to replace the old one, and planned on using HAProxy as the load balancer, in front of the 2 new gateways.

When users are logging into the RDWeb on the old Gateway server, they are presented with the RemoteApps, that they have in the collection, that the user belongs to.

When users are logging into the RDWeb on the new Gateway servers, they are presented with ALL the remoteapps, that is available accross all of the RDS collections.

We are 100% sure, that the new Gateways and the old Gateways, are in the same RDS "environment" - and can see all the servers, when looking at the SQL database for the brokers.

Normally we would look at the Domain groups, since all the RemoteApps are available - but then the user should see all the RemoteApps, when logging into the old Gateway server as well.

The only error code, that ive found so far are these:

Connection Brokers:

RD Gateway Configuration Failed on rdsgw3.domain.local With Error: Failed to create RAP for RD Connection Broker Computers group. Error = 2147749913

RD Gateway Configuration Failed on rdsgw3.domain.local With Error: Failed to create new RD Connection Broker Computers group. Error = 2147749913

RD Gateway Configuration Failed on rdsgw3.domain.local With Error: Failed to create RAP for Domain Computers group. Error = 2147749913

But the policies are being created correctly, and are present when looking.

rdsgw3.domain.local

The connection authorization policy "RDG_CAP_AllUsers" could not be created. The following error occurred: "183".

The resource authorization policy (RAP) "RDG_AllDomainComputers" could not be created. The following error occurred: "183". To resolve this issue, ensure that you have configured RAP settings correctly and set the correct value and permissions for the RAP.xml file and the RAPStore registry key.

The resource group "RDG_RDCBComputers" could not be created. The following error occurred: "183". To resolve this issue, ensure that you have configured resource group settings correctly and set the correct value and permissions for the RAP.xml file and the RAPStore registry key.

The resource authorization policy (RAP) "RDG_RDConnectionBrokers" could not be created. The following error occurred: "183". To resolve this issue, ensure that you have configured RAP settings correctly and set the correct value and permissions for the RAP.xml file and the RAPStore registry key.

The resource group "RDG_DNSRoundRobin" could not be created. The following error occurred: "183". To resolve this issue, ensure that you have configured resource group settings correctly and set the correct value and permissions for the RAP.xml file and the RAPStore registry key.

The resource authorization policy (RAP) "RDG_HighAvailabilityBroker_DNS_RR" could not be created. The following error occurred: "183". To resolve this issue, ensure that you have configured RAP settings correctly and set the correct value and permissions for the RAP.xml file and the RAPStore registry key.

We cant seem to find the answer to this, so any help is much appreciated!

I have configured everything RD-CONNECTION-BROKER RD-WEB-ACCESS RD-LICENSING RD-GATEWAY after that i can able to connect my windows server to browser but the issue is i cant able to access the resource shown in the browser it is showing "Oops, we couldn't connect to the "resource-name" The connection to the remote PC was lost. This might be because of a network connection problem. If this keeps happening, ask your admin or tech support for help.

Unable to see connected RDS farm users in Server Manager

We have a Server 2016 RDS farm with two collections.  The connection broker and the gateway were upgraded from 2012R2 to 2016 server.  We followed the Microsoft recommended in place upgrade because we are introducing a new Collection of 2016 RDS host. The farms/collections are working as expected and users are logged into both collections.  The old/previous collection has all 2012r2 RDS host and the new collection has all 2016 host.

Here is my issue:

In server manager under the connections pane after highlighting the collection of the 2012r2 collection I can see all logged in users with no issue.  In the new 2016 collection I can not see any logged in users although users are connected and successfully log in.  We would like to see connected users in the new farm so that we can use tools such as shadow or force a user to log off.  I've opened server manager on several servers, including the connection broker and a domain controller thinking it was maybe my windows 10 RSAT that was having the issue, but none show users for the new 2016 farm.

mapping a folder or making it a home folder

We have 3 servers on our cloud deployment.

1. AD - Server01
2. RDS 2016 - Server02
3. SQL Server - Server03

We have RDS server setup for 5 users accessing a core module (EXE file) of an HR application.

The users RDP to Server02 & work on this application.

We have given each of these 5 users a user specific folder to save their work files wrt the HR application.

1. Is it possible to map these folders to their respective RDS profiles? such that everytime users are on their rd session and working on this application, this must be their default location to save files, reports etc.

2. is it possible to make this users home folder ONLY when they are accessing the RDS server.- such that everytime users are on their rd session and working on this application, this must be their default location to save files, reports etc.

Redirecting a COM port grater than 32?

I'm using COM port redirection via RDP. If I assign a COM port number smaller than 32, redirection works fine. I log on to the server and access the device that is connected locally. However, if I assign a COM port greater than 32, I can't access the device from RDP. I get an error "The port COM100 does not exist".

So, is there some limit to RDP com port redirectoions?

RDP scaling not passed Windows 10 to Server 2012 R2

$

I have a Windows 10 client and a Server 2012R2 server. The client is set to 1920x1080 at 125%. In the past, whenever I connected via RDP, the session automatically went to 125%, regardless of the resolution (I sometimes use 1024x768, or other resolutions), just like it is supposed to. In the last few weeks, it has suddenly stopped doing this. I've tried different accounts, making sure I logged off the Server session (not just disconnected), changing the resolution and magnification on the client, and trying different Server 2012 R2 servers. Nothing works. I really don't want to do some of the manifest solutions that others talk about.

It is almost as if an update to either the server or the client has broken this.

Is there some way of diagnosing this? Is there a log of the connections, that would tell me what the client says it is, so I can see if the client isn't reporting the scale factor, or the server isn't paying attention?

Does anyone else have a suggestion, or is anyone else noticing this issue?

Thank you.

Server 2016 Connection Broker HA on SQL 2016 Always On Availability Groups

$

Hi all,

I'm trying to setup high availability in a 2016 Connection Broker server using as DB an existing SQL 2016 Cluster Always On AG.

I created a new DB on the SQL Server and added it to the AG (also tried without adding it to the AG); created a new sql logon and given db_owner and securityadmin permissions to the new DB. I can access the DB from both SSMS and SQL Client from the RDCB server, but when I try to configure HA using shared server I get this error message:

"The database specified in the database connection string is not available from the RD Connection Broker server".

I also tried to create HA using dedicated server, but login fails with the same error even if I add the RDCB server to SQL Server with sa permissions.

This is the connection string I'm using:

Driver={SQL Server Native Client 13.0};Server=sqlcluster_dns_name;Database=ClusterRDS;Uid=user;Pwd=password;Encrypt=yes;TrustServerCertificate=yes;Connection Timeout=30;MultiSubnetFailover=yes;

I also tried with Native Client 11, nothing changed. Both clients (11 and 13) are installed on the RDCB Server and I can configure a connection from ODBC data sources.

Firewalls are off everywhere.

Any idea? Am I missing something?

Thank you,

Marco

how can I view redirected client printers?

I am trying to troubleshoot client printer redirection. But I cannot see my clients printers when they sign in. Also, I am trying to troubleshoot how group policies is affecting clients using my remote desktop server but when I try to use GPRESULT /s /system /user username /v I get a "ERROR the RPC server is unavailable" message. the server is 2008 R2 and does have the printer manager role.

it would be extremely helpful if I could see who is an isn't able to bring their printers with them when they sign in.

thanks in advance

Local printers are not redirected when connecting to Session Host on Server 2016

I've have an issue redirecting local printers in my WS2016 RDS farm.

When I connect to any of my Server 2016 Remote Desktop Session Host I am not able to see redirected printers. This happens with full desktop or with Remoteapp, for example, with Wordpad.

This issue happens when connecting from RDS Gateway or when connecting from the intranet. Despite that, I'm able to redirect local printers if I connect to the sesion host with the /admin console session (mstsc.exe /admin). I have EasyPrint enabled and configured with preference via GPO.

I have configured print management and installed several server printers. The users are able to see those printers, but they cannot see redirected ones. I believe it's a driver issue, as I am able to see the TS redirected ports (TSxxx PRNx) but no printer installed in any of those ports.

I do not have any clue why. Could you please help me?

The farm is a standard RDS Farm, with 4 session host. The DCs are in another server, so no problem with that.

Thank You

Microsoft Remote Apps kicking out credentials

$

We are looking for a solution to save the credentials on our clients machines for the microsoft remote apps so that they dont have to enter the name and passwords to connect to the remote apps much like rdp will keep the credentials saved for them.  We find that for some users it will periodically kick out the credentials most of the time just the password and we will have to redo the webfeed to save the credentials on their machine again which could last a few days before being kicked out again.  The apps are hosted on a Server 2016 machine on a domain and the clients are connecting from non domain machines to run the apps.

User Profile Disks: Disk has the same disk identifiers as one or more disks connected to the system

$

Hello,

we have a Windows Server 2016 RDS session-based server with User Profile Disks enabled. If there is at least one user logged in, for every other user that connects to the server, a warning is added to the Event logs: "Disk <x> the same disk identifiers as one or more disks connected to the system". Aside from that, all seems to work fine, so should I be worried about these warnings?

2012 Recreate collection of VMs fails, Post-patch failed

$

Windows 10 VMs - I created a new Win 10 2016 LTSB (1607) template from scratch, applied all updates, sysprepped - just like I would do with the previous template which was Win 10 ent 1804 (not LTSB). Anyway, when I execute "recreate all desktops in pool" and point to the new template, it takes a long time, then eventually fails. The first VM's status is Post-patch failed, all others are job canceled. I'm looking through the Hyper-V logs, but nothing jumps out at me. In fact, the only entry I see is for the one that Post-patch failed.

I've confirmed that the VM did export as a template.

Log: Microsoft Windows Hyper-V15 Worker/Admin

Event ID: 18510

'BASE-0' saved successfully. (Virtual machine ID 741112D6-0B23-4521-8C8F-7ECA9E144843)

Any idea where I should look to see what's happening?

Edit: I closed the wizard and then launched Task Status and now get a bit more information for the VM that Post-patch failed - "Failed: The virtual machine is not ready for the virtual machine-based desktop deployment."

My gut instinct is I can't downgrade win 10 VMs from 1804 to 1607, time to find out what google thinks.

Edit 2: Setup a new resource pool, pointed it at my new template, same errors.
Edit 3: Hyper-V-VMMS/Admin, Event ID: 15090 'BASE-0' failed to modify resources.

Edit 4: Hyper-V-VMMS/Storage Event IS 27002 (A whole lot of these) The description for Event ID 27002 from source Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS cannot be found.
