I am running a windows server 2016, Installed RDS with broker services. I am trying to remote to another server from this one and get the error listed below. There are no firewalls between the systems and all windows firewalls are turned off. I am not able to telnet to another server using port 3389. I tried disabling the license server configurations (as they are other servers on the domain). I am able to remote to this server from another server but not in reverse.

Unable to reset expired password via RDWeb Access

HI,

I created a RDWeb access in Windows Server 2012 R2 and able to reach to the page where it prompts for the reset of the password. However, it keeps saying, "The user name or password that you entered is not valid. Try typing it again". Below steps tried:

1. Removed the password complexity from the DC to ease the password, still the same error.

2. Tried resetting the configuration in "C:\Windows\Web\RDWeb\Pages\en-US\login.aspx" file and the "C:\Windows\Web\RDWeb\Pages\en-US\password.aspx" file (hard coded user name).

3. Tried hard coding the domain name as well. Still the same error.

4. Disabled NLA, reduced the MinimumEncryptionLevel in registry.

Attached is the error message. I checked almost all the articles in google and still unable to find a solution. Please help.

Issue on Windows10 Pro as RDP listener - internal error occurred

$

Hello,

I want to report one issue that is easy to reproduce, it occurs with any rdp client that connects to Windows10 Pro with enabled RDP connections, actually used mstsc.exe to connect from one Windows10 pro machine to another Windows10 pro machine with enabled RDP.

After ~100 tries to restore interrupted connection the server refuses future rdp connection tries with internal error occurred message reported by mstsc.exe.

It doesn't matter if you have logged off the session during running, as example did 20 connection restorings then logged off, logged in and did next 80 connection restorings, that was only example, only what matters is that you have only to restore any interrupted session at least ~100 times to send server to nirvana. As example after WiFi lost connection or during any network problem that requires rdp connection restoring. Only what helps to restore functionality is to restart remote desktop service in services.msc

I highly assume by restoring connection with reconnection cookie the bug counter counts up and by reaching 100 (the counter seems to be not reset by any action) so finally it completely stops to accept any future connections with internal error occurred message.

Such error doesn't exist on Windows2016 but Windows10 pro is affected.

More over few months ago this bug didn't exist on Windows10 too.

Please forward this issue to your RDP server developers, thank you!

Sincerely yours.

RDS Print Redirection Does Not Work After Reconnecting to RDS)

Hi,

AWS Windows Server 2016 Datacenter, a production Server for my client is impaired. The client has computers and printers at their office location, users RDS into AWS Cloud Server and print using RDS print redirection.

Since a few days ago the RDS print redirection stopped working reliably. No error message after hitting "Print a Test page", the print job shows up in the queue and disappears after a couple of seconds.

Print redirection often works and some other times doesn't work for everyone in that location. The only time I know for a fact it works is after rebooting the server. It takes either one or few times of disconnect/reconnect from RDS that the RDS print redirection stops working.

I did everything I can on a local machine and network. They all work fine 100% of the time. I restarted Win Server 2016 Spooler and it still doesn't work. One other condition the RDS printing worked is when I reinstalled the printer driver on local machine newly but it stops working after one or few RDS disconnects and reconnects.

It is so frustrating, I bought a brand new hp laserjet pro-MFP m447fdw printer it didn't help. I bought a new Cisco SMB router, it didn't help. Apparently, it only has something to do with Windows Server 2016.

OS Installed and Version:  2016

Role:  RDP

Production:  Yes

Current Status:  Up

Description: I have a customer who has remote users who RDP into his server to print. He says it used to work on his old server but not on this new one, the first time they connect it will work but then if they drop the RDP and reconnect, it won't print. No error just doesn't do anything at all. The printer is installed and set up in server manager.

Activities Performed:  Tried some group policy settings referred to here. "Always render on server" I tried setting it to enabled and disabled. Disabled made it not be able to print at all even when initially connecting.
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/1c3fd03a-84a8-44ef-afee-64ee94ee09d8/windows-2016-server-printing-after-disconnect?forum=winserverTS

Didn't work.

Tried reg setting on client referred to here.
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6559

Didn't work.

Tried to disable prefer <g class="gr_ gr_49 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="49" id="49">easy</g> print in GPO. <g class="gr_ gr_50 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="50" id="50">no</g> go

I am out of ideas. Any idea why it will print when they initially connect but if they disconnect and rejoin the same session it won't print?

Thanks,

Explorer.exe not responding / SLOW printing

Hi,

I am currently running a Terminal Server on Windows 2012 R2 with all the latest updates installed.

We have a print server also running on a different 2012R2 machine.

Printing is really slow.. If I open printer properties and click Print Test page it takes up to 30 seconds until the dialog box "A test page has been sent to your printer" shows up.

I also notice while having Resource monitor running during these tests that explorer.exe goes to "not responding" and then goes back to running once the dialog box pops up.

I have uninstalled the anti-virus (trend) as well, but no difference.

I ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

and sfc /scannow

I'm running out of ideas on what to try next..

windows 2008 r2 rds cal

Hello everyone,
I have a question about the licensing of rds services in windows 2008 r2.
I have one license server and 2 rds session host servers each with different applications installed.
Office was installed on one server and the company management software on the other.
Users access servers via rdp client.
There are 100 clients in total.
My question is:
I have to buy 200 rds licenses or do I need 100?
My 100 users need to connect on both servers.

Thank you

Identical COM port number forwarded via RDP (different machines)

$

Hi all.

We're trying out our applications using RDP to access them. In order for this to work, clients must access the server via RDP. At the same time, using their RDP they are forwarding local COM ports (in order for some serial device to work).

As it is now, there are different local PC's that have the said device assinged to the same local port.  Example: PC1 has a device assigned to COM4, PC2 has another device assigned also to COM4.

Both of them are now using RDP to connect to a Windows Server and they are forwarding their ports.

Does Windows have any mechanism to differentiate read requests from those two devices? I know that on a local machine, two devices cannot occupy the same COM port...but I'm not sure how COM redirecting really works, in other words, will the example I gave you work without the two user PC's colliding.

If there's any additional info you may need, do let me know.

Thanks :)

Unique RDremoteApp Batch to Powershell query issue

$

I'm running a 2016 RDS environment.  I have a unique app that requires a antiquated OS.  I've provisioned a Remoteapp which is just a .bat file that calls a Powershell script.  The Powershell script simply queries a list of OS's to see if a user is logged on.  (not sure if this is a Powershell question or not but i'll start here).   Now as an admin launching the remoteapp (bat file) the query works fine, it successfully gets a list of who's logged on to these antiquated servers. When launching the app as a regular user it never successfully returns data.  I've tried this script from technet which works great as an admin.  I've also used the qwinsta tool which also works fine as an admin.  For testing, UAC is off as well as Firewall and still no dice.  With auditing on i do see a failure on the RDSH in regards to  a sensitive privilege use SeTcbPreivilege which is the act as part of the OS user right.  Even if i explicitly give the user this right it doesnt execute right and always just returns that no users are logged on.  I know its the interesting way in which this solution is being implemented and how its calling powershell, but I'm just not sure on my next steps here.  Looking for some input.

Local printers are not redirected when connecting to Session Host on Server 2016

I've have an issue redirecting local printers in my WS2016 RDS farm.

When I connect to any of my Server 2016 Remote Desktop Session Host I am not able to see redirected printers. This happens with full desktop or with Remoteapp, for example, with Wordpad.

This issue happens when connecting from RDS Gateway or when connecting from the intranet. Despite that, I'm able to redirect local printers if I connect to the sesion host with the /admin console session (mstsc.exe /admin). I have EasyPrint enabled and configured with preference via GPO.

I have configured print management and installed several server printers. The users are able to see those printers, but they cannot see redirected ones. I believe it's a driver issue, as I am able to see the TS redirected ports (TSxxx PRNx) but no printer installed in any of those ports.

I do not have any clue why. Could you please help me?

The farm is a standard RDS Farm, with 4 session host. The DCs are in another server, so no problem with that.

Thank You
