Set up Clustered Hyper-V RD Virtualization hosts?

I have a VM running Broker/gateway/RDWeb, which is working fine.  I'd like to add RD Virtualization hosts for full desktop VDI.  I have two servers in a cluster with shared fibre SAN storage, but I can't figure out how to point the RDS environment to use the cluster resource for the RD virtualization host.  If I point the RDS set up to the cluster name/IP for the RD Virtualzation host, it fails.  If I point it to the individual nodes of the cluster, it installed, but this is useless to me as their shared storage is only active on one node at a time.  

How can I get both nodes with RD Virtualization Host roles installed to be clustered in such a way as to have the cluster itself (or a clustered resource) be available as the RD Virtualization host?

RDS Windows Server 2016 Licensing per User CALs (50)

Hi,

I am trying to setup RDP in Windows Server 2016 I have my licensing for 50 users what else I need to allow my server to authenticate users. The server is not allowing to connect via RDP session. No Per User License has been Issued when I see the Report. Please help!

Remove CAL pack from TS Licensing server

Hi, 

I've got a customer with three licensing servers... WS2003, WS2008 and WS2012. 

Recently they bought 20 CAL per device 2016 licenses. During activation proccess there was a mistake and those CAL where installed on WS2003 Licensing Server, instead of WS2008 server... 

I've been trying to talk with Clearing House and tech support to remove those licenses from WS2003 licensing server... And no one knew how to do it... 

The only solution they gave to me was migrating licenses from WS2003 to WS2008, but I guess that proccess migrates all the licenses, and you need to deactivate WS2003 server... That's not an option to this client.... 

Can anyone provide me some help?

Remote Session to allow a user to execute 2 specific processes

Greetings,

this is a general question. I have a windows server 2012, running weblogic server on it. It is logged in as administrator and the weblogic application is running on the back. I want to give access to a user, to logged in with remote connection and the session will show 2 applications. The purpose of this is, i want a non administrator user, to be able to execute stop-server.ps1 which is terminating my weblogic server, and start-server.ps1 which is starting my weblogic server. Some times the weblogic server needs to be stopped (not forcefully, that's why i have a script for that), and start again since i will not always be able to do it my self. The user should not be able to interact with the server, but only execute this 2 scripts. How can this be achieved?

I have just installed an RDS solution for one of my customers, I am now in the process of creating a document outlining the schematics and infrastructure, basically what is RDS and how it works.

Is there any template that I can use that will help me create this document?

Remote Desktop default printers not setting

Our scenario is mac based and we use remote desktop to use windows applications we can't run on them.

There's one problem with printers <g class="gr_ gr_45 gr-alert gr_spell gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling" data-gr-id="45" id="45">though</g> on their remote desktop login, no one is able to set their own user specific default printer.
You set the default and everything is working fine, till you log off then back on.. what will happen is the printer default is the first printer but then their printer has duplicates installations of it, you can tell this when you right click the printer and it asks which printer you want to change i.e. 
>samsung 1234
>samsung 1234
>samsung 1234

I then have to delete their local profile and get them to log back in again for it to go back to normal, their printer <g class="gr_ gr_32 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_disable_anim_appear Grammar multiReplace" data-gr-id="32" id="32">is then default</g> without multiple installations of the same printer, till they log out and back in.
I have even recreated their profile and given them a new one but it's still the same issue.

Any ideas? GPO is not set for any defaults etc

Might be worth mentioning that we have two servers for active directory logins of rds1 and rds2, it will split the users onto both servers to share the load. If one person is logged into rds1 then the server will redirect them to rds2. We have to delete both profiles on both servers, is there a link issue here because of the two profiles?

RDCms database stuck in single_user mode

Help I got me Remote Desktop Database RDCms stuck in single_user mode and no matter what I do I cannot get it out. I even deleted everything and rebuilt and it always comes back in single_user mode.

Would you recommend installing the RDS on baremetal or as VM (hyperV)?

Activating RDS User CAL's - MPSA agreement

Hi,

Several times now I have purchased my RDS User CAL's through a new MPSA agreement.

Windows Server 2008 and 2012 RD Licensing Manager do not list MPSA as an agreement type when I try to install them from the server.

Several time's I have tried to call the activation line for assistance with this and on each occasion I have been patronized and told to call back because MY line is breaking up.

How can I activate the licenses that I have purchased without having to call the activation line?

I have tried https://activate.microsoft.com/ also but this give me an error each time saying my agreement number is incorrect when I can clearly see its right. 

I'm getting a little frustrated now. Microsoft, how can I activate my CAL's in the quickest and easiest way?

Login script to set NumLock results in user logged off

My client is using RDS on Win2016.  The users are connecting mostly via Chromebooks. They need the NumLock button enabled during the RDS sessions. Setting the "InitialKeyboardIndicators" registry key on the server for does not work. 

I then wrote a script:

set WshShell = CreateObject(“WScript.Shell”)
WshShell.SendKeys “{NUMLOCK}”

and then used a GPO to run it per https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc770821.aspx.  However, when the script finishes the user is automatically logged out.  Since the script takes about 1 second to complete the user session is useless.  Is there a better way to run this script at logon to the RDS session?

RDS connection broker issue

Hello,

Every time a user logs in on an RDS farm member we are seeing these event errors in TerminalServices-SessionBroker-Client on the RDS Session Host server:

Event ID 1296:

Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed while getting redirection packet from Connection Broker.
User : DOMAIN\user 
HRESULT = 0x80070515

Event ID 1306:

Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed to redirect the user DOMAIN\user. 
HRESULT = 0x80070515


Most of the time the redirection works fine though but not every time.. sometimes the users that where disconnected are not reconnecting to their disconnected session but get a 2nd or even 3rd session. Not sure if the above event id's are the related as we have a similar farm that also logs these event id's but there we dont see this double sessions behaviour.

Environment:

2008R2 Enterprise RDS farm members
RES Workspace Manager
2008R2 Connection broker
External Load Balancer A10 TH1030

The RDS Session Host servers are configured to use token redirection and not participating in load balancing through the connection broker.

Anyone familiar with this issue?

RemoteApp GPO is not applying for users without local admin access

My organization is planning on deploying AX 2012 R3 Client via RemoteApp for all our users. I am currently testing this out with RDS installed on a single Windows 2012 R2 Server, but in the future I will set up a new Server 2016 RDS environment for this.

I am having issues publishing the RemoteApp URL via GPO to my users. It will only work if the user has local administrator access on their PC. This cant be how it's supposed to work? I am planning on deploying this to hundreds of users! If the user manually adds it into the Control Panel Item it works. They are asked to log on once, and they just use their own credentials and it works fine.

The event log tells me this. "Windows failed to apply the {4D2F9B6F-1E52-4711-A382-6A8B1A003DE6} settings. {4D2F9B6F-1E52-4711-A382-6A8B1A003DE6} settings might have its own log file. Please click on the "More information" link."

Notes:
- I have figured out that the GUID the RemoteApp settings.
- The GPO shows up as an applied GPO in gpresult /h.
- I am sure I have seen the error "access denied" somewhere but I cant remember where now.

2012R2 RD Connection Broker service denied the remote procedure call (RPC) from an unauthorized computer

Hi all,

We have 2x 20212R2 connection brokers configured in HA. Checking server manager i am seeing Event ID 1016 warning messages all the time saying, RD Connection Broker service denied the remote procedure call (RPC) from an unauthorized computer x.x.x.x

All posts seem to point to a 2008 RDS solution. Is there one for 2012R2? What have i missed thats really simple here?

Launch different programs based on device name when user logs onto a remote desktop host server.

Environment: Windows Server 2012 R2 full remote desktop sessions. 

Active directory users connect to our remote desktop farm from multiple devices e.g. laptops, desktops, and handheld scanners. Laptops and desktops are domain joined running Windows 7 and 10. The handheld scanners are running Windows CE and not domain joined. 

We've previously used the Environment tab in Active Directory to launch a specific program on logon. However, we now have multiple programs which need to run on logon. 

Is there a way to a launch specific program in the same manor as using the environment tab in AD, which is dependant on the hostname of the device they are connecting from?
For example, if an single AD user connects from a computer name which starts HANDHELD, launch executable1, if computer name starts HANGGUN, launch executable2, anything else login normally (full remote desktop session).

Changing Regional setting per user for RDSH published applications

For one of my Application collections I have a two server farm. Within the collection I have about six different published applications. One of these applications has a report function and some reports such as the check printing rely on a function that converts numbers to words such as in the image below.

We need this function to actually do the conversion to Spanish language.
This is dependent on the regional Format setting in the Region and Language option from Control Panel.

How can we make this adjustment for only those users who need it?

Server 2008 R2 Default printer problem

I have 4 Remote Desktop servers. All are running Server 2008 R2 Datacenter. All connections are run by a broker for load balancing. All of the users use Folder redirection for the user profiles. 95% of my users connect through a thin client device and only a handful of users connect using a PC. When the users log in their default printer changes to the local Docuware Printer PS. It doesn't matter what printer you choose when you log out, the Docuware printer is always default when you log back in. We have been using Docuware for several years and only in the last two months has this been happening. At first it was just one or two users. And now it has spread. My first thought was that there was a GPO that was causing the problem. I have looked and I do not have a GPO that is pointing to a printer. Everything for printers is not configured. I have scoured the internet for answers and only find old info about hot fixes and other garbage. All of my servers are patched to the current release. I am at a loss. Any ideas?

RDS 2012 R2 IP virtualization - IP-addresses are no longer being recycled after applying security patch MS16-111

Hi

We are using IP virtualization and we have recently found out that after applying security patch KB3175024 (MS16-111 Description of the security update for Windows kernel: September 13, 2016) the virtual IP addresses are no longer being recycled i.e. I login and get virtual IP X.X.X.1, log out, login again an get virtual IP X.X.X.2. This continues until the last configured virtual IP x.x.x.254 and then the server runs out of IP addresses even though I am the only user. 

After uninstalling the offending patch KB3175024 (MS16-111 Description of the security update for Windows kernel: September 13, 2016) virtual IP addresses are being recycled again, i.e. I login and get virtual IP X.X.X.1, log out, login again an getvirtual IP X.X.X.1.

Windows 2012 R2 RemoteApp - Printer settings for IE not saved after disconnecting

Hi !

sorry for my English, i'm french speaking.

We have a RDS 2012 farm and we have a collection for our dev team.  In this collection, we have 3 browsers, IE, Chrome and Firefox.  This problem is for all browsers.

When a user start the remoteApp IE, for example and he need to print, the default paper size is set to A4 for example.  The user change this to Legal for printing the document.  If the user disconnect the session and he come back to the remoteApp IE, the paper size is again to A4 and not to Legal.  The problem is there for the 2 others remoteApp.  There is a way to set the paper size where it will not change for the next connection ?

Install applications on RDS hosts

Hello, 

We have a Windows 2012 RDS environment and I have questions about installing applications. 

I plan to create a domain account called RDSINSTALL and grant the account local admin right of the RDS hosts to install the apps. 

What do I need to do so when other domain users login, they see the same shortcuts on their desktops or start menu?

I also plan to build the second host after applications are installed using the clone image of the first host.  Is it possible?

Please advise.
