UDP profiles cant be detach from RDS Farm session hosts after disconnect or logoff

Hi,

We have a 2012R2 RDS Farm deployment consisting of the following:

1x AD ,1x RD Broker / RD Web Access,1x RDGW,3x RDSH,1x File Server for UPD.

All of the servers are running on 2012R2. We're having an issue with UPD's not dismounting when a user is logging off.

So when this happens the load balancing wont take effect. The user can only login to the same server as before and if it login to another server it will get a temp profile because the VHDx is still attached to the the former server. There is not much on the internet and we have tried deleting the VHDx and also cleaning the registry of all the temp SID values in the ProfileList section. And also We have checked network settings and there is no loss of network connectivity between any of servers.

The UPDs are stored on a 2012R2 SMB File Server and the notable  error we can see is the one below:

Log Name:      Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager/Admin
Source:        Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager

Event ID:      20491
Task Category: None
Level:         Error
Keywords:
User:          SYSTEM
Computer:  <Computer>
Description:
Remote Desktop Services could not disconnect a user disk for the user account with a SID of <SID>. The error code is 0xAA.93

Any help on this one would be highly appreciated.

Not able to install RDS

Hello IT professionals,

I have been trying to install RDS in one of my 2012R2 box.  Here is the scenario, Windows 2008R2 is our Domain controller.  We have two 2012 servers as a member servers with NO Roles in them.  I would like to install RDS all the roles including licensing server on the same 2012 servers.  Goal is very simple, we want to have more than 2 concurrent remote sessions.  We bought a 5 CALs already for this purpose.  Whenever I run the RDS quick deployment or the standard deployment, "Service Collection" and "RemoteApp programs" fails to complete.  Connection broker goes thru, but the RDMS service never starts.  I changed the login credentials to Network Service on RDMS and WID services.  I have rebuilt one of the server hoping it would resolve the issue, no luck there either :(  Is there any GPO blocking this?

Need major help.

I can provide more details if required.

Thanks a bunch.

RDL license usage

Hi

I've installed and configured a RDS environment with 2 Server 2012 datacenter VM.

VM01 is hosting RDSH

VM02 is hosting RDL (this is a server core)

I've 30 User CAL installed in VM02 and they're being issued correctly as licmgr.exe shows licenses assigned to users.

Today, a co-worker has informed me that he has setup another RDSH and pointed it to my RDL as license server. This has arisen a couple questions:

  • How can I prevent unwanted RDSH to use my licenses? First idea is to block all traffic on firewall except to my trusted RDSH, but guess there are better options. (there are few departments in my company, each one with their budget for buying software, and anyone can reach server vlan)
  • Can I know which User CALs have been isued from what RDSH? Can I know if this and that user CAL has been issued from my VM01 and a third one from my colleague's RDSH?

Thanks in advance

Remote Desktop Server 2012 R2 Labs

Hello All,

Does anyone know if there are actual labs that accompany the Lab Guides for "Remote Desktop Server 2012 R2" ?

I have the Lab Guides, that's no problem but if you read the Lab guides it talks about setting up the "Base Configuration, etc." but I didn't see the actual Lab environment that I can use in conjunction with the Lab Guides.

I did find a Lab environment but it definetly wasn't for the Lab Guides that I found on TechNet.

Does anyone know of any Labs ??

Thanks

Can't no longer connect to a 2012 server hosted on the cloud because of a Terminal Server error

Hi,

My server is a Windows Server 2012-R2 Data Center Edition that was setup on Google Cloud and it has been running fine for at least 4 months without any issues until last week.

This server has domain controller role and is the only one server on this forest.

5 domain users were configured on the server to work using remote desktop access.

These users access an accounting software that was installed on the server.

The RD Licensing Manager from the server had a license installed for a Remote Desktop CAL for 5 devices.

Without doing any changes to the server all the sudden any user (including administrators) that tries to connect to the server with remote desktop gets the error: "A Terminal Server License Server could not be found to provide a license (code LicenseNoLicenseServer(257))"

There is no way to connect to the server because google cloud uses RDP protocol to provide console access to the server.

I need help recovering access the server and fix the Remote Desktop Services.

Ask credentials for every request of Remote application launch with RDP file.

I have published 2 applications on server to use as remote application

lets say App 1 and App 2. Now  i open the RD Web Access page and download the RDP files for both the applications(Am using chrome so files are getting downloaded). I try to launch the file for App1 , i get a popup asking for credentials, i provide the credentials and the application launches. I try to launch the app 2 , it opens directly and i am not asked for credentials. I have a scenario where i want to ask for credentials every time the file is launched. How this can be achieved?

Also i may have to open app 1 and app 2 with different credentials. how this can be done?

Preventing users from bypassing an RD Gateway for internal addresses

I am trying to prevent my users from being able to bypass an RD Gateway for internal addresses, I can achieve this by changing the "gatewayusagemethod" to 1, in the default.rdp file located in \my documents.

I would like to modify this "gatewayusagemethod" attribute in the Default.rdp file for all users on my network.

Is there a way to achieve this via GPO or a startup script such that each unique user's Default.rdp file has the attribute(gatewayusagemethod) set to a certain value.

External Remote Desktop Session won't connect Server 2012 R2 (0x8007007A)

Hi forum members, I have a weird issue going on with a high availability Server 2012 R2 setup.

The users of this company are connecting trough Remote Desktop Connection in- and outside the organization. All the inbound connection inside the organization goes perfect, the servers are load-balancing the sessions and uses the two session hosts to connect. The users are connecting with the rds using round robin with hostname remote.customer.com

3389 is open and forwarded to Server 1. The users are able to connected when the connection broker starts a session on Server 1, but when the connection broker starts a session on server 2 we are receiving this error message.Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.

So it's not possible to start a remote desktop connection from external location when the broker is trying to connect with server 2.

If I check the eventviewer on server 2 it shows me the following error: "Failed to create KVP sessions string. Error Code 0x8007007A"

Current setup:

Server 1 Roles:
- RDS Connection Broker
- RDS License Manager/Server (Per device cal)
- RDS Gateway
- Session Host

Server 2 Roles:
- Session Host

Server 3 Roles:
- SQL Connection Broker

The customer uses a per device cal. All the calls are stored on Server 1. I've also forced the License server on Server 2 with a group policy.

Could someone please advise what settings to check and change? Many thanks in advance.

Multiple RD Session Hosts + One License Server

Hello! I'm trying to setup multiple RD Session Hosts VMs across our different sites as "hop boxes". There will be four different ones, and one will also host the license server. I have a couple different questions regarding this..

1. Can I use one license server to manage all of these different hop boxes? They will not be a part of a traditional session host farm, each box will be connected to specifically so there's no load balancing but I would still like them all to utilize the same one RD Licensing Server

2. Is it possible to just install the roles for session host and license server without needing to include the broker/web access role? Will i still be able to specify the license server for each of the session hosts?

I played around a bit with this and if I don't install the broker role then it seems like I cannot access the remote desktop services management console at all, not allowing me to specify the license server or anything like that. What are my options here?

License Assignment For Non-Windows OS Thin Clients

We have a new 2012R2 RDS server with 30 RDS device CALs.

The lab has 25 non-Windows OS thin clients.

RDP connections from the thin clients work fine, but the License Manager only shows 1 issued CAL to the PC (Win 7) that we use to remotely access the server.

Do the Device CALs only work with Windows OS devices or have we misconfigured something?

Thanks >> Joe

RemotaAPP on WIN8.1 slower than WIN8.0

Lab PC with WIN7 Enterprise running serial terminals (VanDyke CRT).

Connect to the LAB PC (guest) using RemoteAPP from a WIN8.1 machine (host).

When there is a large number of printouts to the terminal, the terminal session (and all other apps running on this guest)  freezes until printing slows down. Everything is eventually there, but not continuously.

When connecting with a regular remote session (Remote Desktop), this does not happen. Printing to the terminal is continuous and other windows within the guest do not freeze.

The same environment, but with a WIN8.0 host (before upgrading to 8.1) worked fine. Printing was continuous and no freezing.

I compared the RDPs used for the remote desktop and remote APP. They are identical except the remoteapp entries, i.e.

remoteapplicationmode:i:1
remoteapplicationprogram:s:<something>
remoteapplicationcmdline:s:/e,"<somethings params>"
disableremoteappcapscheck:i:0
alternate shell:s:rdpinit.exe

Also tried with

disableremoteappcapscheck:i:1

How can this be solved?

Or is the WIN8.1 RDP simply slower or reacting differently?

Allow remoteapp but deny remote desktop connection

Hi,

as you know, in order to make a remotapp available for a user, you must put him in the local group "Remote Desktop Users", but it enables that user also to make a typical RDP connection to the server and I want to avoid it. I found online a few possible workarounds, especially to put "logoff.exe" as executable at logon, but it works on all users and I want administrators to have the ability to make an RDP connection. Is there any new trick to do? I'm on WS2012R2.

Thank you

Users experiencing ALT Key being stuck down within sessions, but it is not.

Hi,

A number of my users are experiencing an issue where it acts as if the alt key is stuck down, but it isn't. When clicking icons, it opens the properties. I've discovered the workaround is to press the ALT key, and all goes back to normal. I've seen similar issues online with the windows key, but this was happening after locking the session. My problem is random as far as I can tell.

This has been happening since 27th November as far as I am aware. The only updates installed since then are definition updates for Defender.

Is anyone aware of a fix for this??

Thanks

RDWeb problem

Hi people,

I'm having problems with external users using rdweb-site. I've renewed the ssl certificate for the xx.domain.com

but the remote computer has a diffrent address so the certificate is not being authenticated so I get an error message

"your computer cant connect to the remote computer because an error occurred. Contact your network administrator"

My setup: Win server 2008 r2 --> RemoteApp manager, RD Gateway Manager, RD Session Host Configuration, Remote desktop services

The new certificate has been updated to IIS and remoteapp manager, rd gateway manager and remote desktop session host conf...

Ports are open (3389, 443 etc.)

I've made a dns record to point xxx.domain.com to remote computer's IP

Is there a way to mask the address of the remote computer to think its xx.domain.com

I tried to use self signed certs on remote desktop services but didn't work

any help is appreciated, I've spent all day working on this.

RDS 2012 R2 print spooler issues

Hello everybody!

i have a problema with print spooler in 2012 R2 environment.

RDS users (with disk profile) have connected printer with a 2012 print server. Sometimes printspooler seems to be blocked cause applications like Acrobat Reader DC gives an error no pages selected to print. Same user but different application (Foxit for examples) doesn't see any connected printers.

Tried many application settings but nothing resolved. After i have restarted print spooler, everything is back to work.

No events in application or system events. only in printservice/operational i got some error events:

event 221

source printservice

task enumerating printers

detail: Retrieving CSR cache information for printer \\xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\M5035 failed, error code 0x2. See the event user data for context information.

event 812

source printservice

task Executing a file operation

detail: The print spooler failed to delete the file C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\00009.SHD, error code 0x5. See the event user data for context information.

event 603

source printservice

task Client-side rendering

detail: The print spooler failed to reopen an existing printer connection because it could not read the configuration information from the registry key SIDxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\Printers\Connections. The print spooler could not open the registry key. This can occur if the registry key is corrupt or missing, or if the registry recently became unavailable.

Remote Control of an RDS session using Multiple Monitors Fails

I find multiple thread on thast problem, Microsoft is aware of that since 2009 and no fix yet? Hello Microsoft, anyone home??? How come in 2003 it was working and in 2008 it doesn't? If anyone has found a workaround, thanks to let us know and share your knowledge...
