How to access RemoteApp from RD Gateway Services 2012??? Need help with the setup.
Hi there,
Just wondering if someone can shed some lights here.
A lot of the articles out there shows you how to install RDS Gateway but it doesn't tell how do user use it. Through the RDWeb? Through the MSTSC RDP?
Here are my setup:
Internal Domain: ABC.LOCAL
RDSWebGate01.ABC.LOCAL (IP: 192.168.1.2) - Web Access, Gateway
RDSBroker01.ABC.LOCAL (IP: 192.168.1.3) - Connection Broker
RDSHost01.ABC.LOCAL (IP: 192.168.1.4) - RDSH Hosts
Wildcard certificate (*.XYZ.COM) Loaded and trusted.
External IP Address : Y.Y.Y.Y
Internal IP Address : 192.168.1.X
Everything works fine internally.. https://RDSBroker01.ABC.LOCAL/RDWEB.
I want to extend the RDWEB to the internet so that users can use the RemoteApp from home computers.
So this is what I thought I should setup and it should work...
------> Firewall ----> RDSWebGate01.ABC.LOCAL ---> RDSBroker01.ABC.LOCAL ---> RDSHost01.ABC.LOCAL
Y.Y.Y.Y NAT 192.168.1.2
192.168.1.3 192.168.1.4
(Ext IP) HTTPS 443
UDP 3391
I have External Routable IP Address Y.Y.Y.Y points to RDGWEB.XYZ.COM which will get NATed to the RDSWebGate01.ABC.LOCAL
I setup the RDS Gateway Services through the Deployment Overview.
So, by right When I browse externally through URL htpps://RDSWEB.XYZ.COM/RDWEB, I should get my RemoteApp login page. Which I did... Cool. All good, when I login, I see all those published Apps. All Good... This is where I get confused. When I click on the published app, let say notepad.exe. I was not able to launch the app. I get error messages like the following:
Is that how people setup the GW in the infrastructure? What is wrong here?
Any help would be appreciated.
Trmsrv high net usage
Hi,
We have a very strange issue with one of our server 2008 R2 RDS server.
our network is behind a UTM firewall and one of our RDS server that our customer accessing by RDP genarating really high network usage. 10GB in office hours. we did not have such problem before!!
I did run the Resource monitor on the RDS server and I can see that one one of the users of our cutomer access the RDS server and the Termsrv from his IP shows very high network usage.I did comper his connection to my connection to the same RDS server and it is not comparable.
I did check the procmon and also take over the RDP session of that user and can see his doing nothin on the server.
why when this user access the RDS server the network usage goes through the roof?
Any idea on how to find out what genrating this much net usage?

Slow RDP on Windows SErver 2012 R2 (VMware 5.5)
Hi
I'm struggling with a performance issue on Windows Server 2012 R2 for last few days. I've already went through the number of solutions found online as well as couple remote sessions with VMware support.
VMware is convinced that this issues isn't related to the hypervisor, which seems true to me as the issue isn't affecting any of the 2008 servers. Problem is also present on 2012 R2 server regardless of the VM location (any host, any datastore) or VMware hardware
version (tested on 8 - 10).
The issue itself is simple. Whenever any graphically intense content is opened on any of our Windows Server 2012 R2, the refresh rate (or FPS if you like) over RDP is dropping down dramatically. This is affecting all of our 2012 R2 servers, the other boxes running 2008 or SBS seems fine. Two of the affected servers are running Citrix XenApp 7.6 and the same issue can be observed through ICA session (issue doesn't affect ICA or RDP running on Windows Server 2008).
I've already configured 2012 visual effects for optimal performance, disabled task offloading, reduced colour depth, optimised Citrix policies (on servers running Citrix) and few more things including latest Windows Updates. No luck.
Problem is also affecting both LAN and WAN users. Sometimes the delay is as bad as 5-10 seconds and affecting web browsers, Outlook, Word, pretty much anything that is displaying more than couple images and text. For example Google website and search results are OK. Scrolling through the results is almost normal, typing in the address bar also fine. However as soon as anything like MSN.com or BBC website is opened the refresh rate is terrible until the browser window, MS Word or Outlook is closed.
We are using latest RDP and Citrix client software. RDP 8 have UDP enabled, RAM, CPU and disk IOPs on both clients and servers are low and not causing any problems, issue is affecting RDP to Windows Server 2012 R2 from Windows 7 SP1, 8, 8.1, Android and Windows Mobile clients.
On top of that, we are running two different VMware 5.5U2 clusters in two separate data centres. Both are using different hardware configuration and again we only see the problem on 2012 servers. Also the issue doesn't seems to be affecting 3rd party software
such as TeamViewer on 2012 R2. TeamViewer over WAN gives us much better frame rate than RDP over gigabit LAN.
Any help and suggestions would be much appreciated.
Migrate Terminal server from one domain to another with new users loading old user's profiles (settings)
Dear fellow forum users,
I have a question regarding the approach for the following scenario.
Company x has bought company y, that has 3 virtual servers in their environment.
Company x wants to take over company y's infrastructure and migrate a terminal server in a domain, but not the ad users.
This terminal server will be migrated from domain a to domain b, but the users will get entirely new profiles in the new domain (b).
The requirement is that the new users created in domain b can log on to the terminal server (moved from domain a to b) and log in having the same settings that they had in their old profiles.
How is this done the best way?
Is it simply renaming the old profile folders and then logging in with the new users and then copying everything from the old profil in to the newly created one or how?
I guess using USMT is not an option here, since the ad users are not migrated (hence how do i map a new AD user to an old profile, belonging to a non existing user)?
Hope to have some input on this. Thank you.
Starting a program from a \\tsclient drive is extremly slow in Windows Server 2012 R2
With Windows Server 2012 R2 the start takes about 30 secs(!), while copying the editor's exe to the Windows Server 2012 R2's desktop (using cmd) and starting it from there takes only about 2 secs alltogether.
So far:
- Checked that FIPS is disabled => wasn't
- Tried with Offloading off/on => Nope.
Any suggestions?
Terminal Server and Remote Desktop connection problem
Hi,
I have two Windows 2012 R2 servers with these roles installed:
Server 1: Remote Desktop Services (4 of 6 installed)
- Remote Desktop Connection Brocker
- Remote Desktop Licensing
- Remote Desktop Session Host
- Remote Desktop Web access.
Server 2: Remote Desktop Services (2 of 6 installed)
- Remote Desktop Licensing
- Remote Desktop Session Host
In Server 2, there are 20 Windows 2012 RDS licenses installed.
The Licensing diagnostics in both servers reports the server 2 as license server, with 20 licenses available to clients, in Per use mode.
When I try to connect to any of those servers with Remote Desktop, I get the message 'Remote session disconnected because there are no Remote Desktop Licenses Server available to provide a license. Contact the administrator.
Also, the Event Viewer of both servers shows periodically event 1128:
The RD Licensing grace period has expired and Licensing mode for the Remote Desktop Session Host server has not been configured. Licensing mode must be configured for continuous operation.
I don't find a similar to windows 2008 screen where configure the license server for those servers, but in registry they appear to be well configured, because they show the server2 name as license server, and per user mode.
The only way to connect via RDP with those server is with the /admin modifier. What am I doing wrong? Why those servers can't find licenses for RDP?
upd
Dear reader,
I'm having a strange issue with upd.
I have a top level forest domain.com and two child domain cust.domain.com and res.domain.com.
In the cust.domain.com reside the rds servers session broker and gateway. In the res domain are the fileservers.
At the moment i have a 2008r2 machine in the res domain that holds the upd's for the session collections that reside in the cust domain.
I have created a 2012r2 server for the upd's because of the upd locking issue on 2008r2. The new 2012r2 upd machine resides in the res domain.
The session collection is unable to create the template vhd, because of permissions issue. Even if i set everyone full control on ntfs and upd share. For testing purposes i have moved the new upd server from res domain to cust domain. Created a new share with default rights and the template vhd gets created immediately.
What am I missing here?

Microsoft download site does not display download button when viewing from IE 11 in 2008R2 RDS Session
I am attempting to build a terminal server where client apps require dotNet framework 4.5. When I go to the Microsoft download site (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42642) the page takes 20-30 minutes to load. After it loads, the Download button does not appear like it does when running IE11 from my workstation. Compatibility view is on, Microsoft.com is in my Trusted sites list. My Add-ins are disabled. Server is 2008R2. None of the download pages on that site have displayed the download button. All download site pages are painfully slow. Non-Microsoft sites work fine and downloads work properly. Our LOB app is web-based and depends on IE for full functionality. Any suggestions?
TIA

remote desktop protocol (error code: 0x10ec)
Hi,
A couple of weeks ago I had the need to rebuild a Windows Server 2012 machine. It was/ is a VM hosted in vmware so I created a new server on there, renamed the old box and turned it off. I then named the new box with the correct name.
I have the new box have a remote desktop connection drop last week and I have now had it drop today with Remote Desktop Protocol error 0x10ec. - I keep a remote desktop connection open to my servers all the time.
I have a few Server 2012 boxes setup the same and have not had rdp connection issues before, and the box is fully patched.
Can you please help?
Remote App Issues
Hi, i have installed a custom app on one of my RD servers . The issue is that it runs fine on the server but as soon as i try to access it from the web console it throws a weird remote App error pop up. It says "couldn't open this program or file. Either either was a problem with <application name> or the file you are trying to open couldn't be acessed. For assistance contact your system administrator"
My id has highest level of rights but still i get this error. Any ideas or tips experts out there?

Trouble showing 2 monitors with 4K resolution using Remote Desktop Services (Windows Terminal Server 2012) from Windows 10
Hi,
I have installed 2 monitors with 4K resolution on my Windows 10 PC. I have tried to get both screens to work bye using Remote Desktop Services on at Terminal Server (Windows 2012 Server). It Works verry well on the Windows 10 PC. I have check the button for Connect all screens.
It will only Connect 1 monitor with this high resolution.
If i reduce the resolution on one monitor (one with 2560x2048 and one with 3840x2160), then both monitors will work in the Terminal Server Connection. But this is not good to work with.
It seems that the Remote Desktop Connection can`t use 2 monitors with 4K resolutions (3840x2160)?
Anybody that has a solution for this?
Remote Application question
Hi,
I don't know if this is the right place for this, but here it is...
I'm trying to add a application to my RemoteApp program list.
Here is what I did :
In "Publish RemoteApp Programs" I clicked "Add..."
In the "File Name" I put "\\SERVER.DOMAIN.local\d$\FOLDER\FILE.exe"
and I get this error:
<Quote>
you must specify a file from the rd session host server
SERVER.DOMAIN.local by using the UNC path; for example
\\SERVER.DOMAIN.local\c$\path\filename.exe.
If the problem persists, ensure that the following Windows Firewall exceptions are enabled:
1. File and Printer Sharing (SMB-Out).
2. File and Printer Sharing (SMB-In).
</Quote>
This is AFTER I:
1. opened the Firewall on BOTH servers (the RemoteApp AND the server where the file is located)
2. Mapped the foler to "Z" on the RemoteApp server
So I did a Bath file pointing to it, now it is working, but it is not 100% a RemoteApp!
explanation :
I'm running a program that needs Pervasive, so I installed it on the server, but not on my PC (for the test)
When I run the RemoteApp for the web on my PC, the program is looking for the DLL files for the Pervasive on MY PC, and not on the server...
Please help, Thanks

Default Save as option
hi,
We need to change the default save as option for all MS Office & PDF files for terminal server users to C drive of the local client machines instead of the terminal server profiles.
RDS 2012 Remote App Active Window not coming to the front
We are working with RDS 2012 and publishing a remote App. The App has many windows that open within it and a few windows into their session the active window stops coming to the front. Since this window opens behind the old window the user thinks the app locks up. If they click off to the side and then open the Remote App window back the windows does come to the front, but this cannot be a solution.
We have tried changing the HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\ForegroundFlashCount to 3
and the HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\ForegroundLockTimeout to 0
Anybody else encountered this?
Server 2008 Low on C: Space
Hello,
I have a server 2008 that is running low on c: hard drive space, I am going replace the server soon, in the mean time to get some space back:
Can the Security Update default location be changed? I know Microsoft Security Updates default to C:, and I have read some articles that recommend that you not change this. However, how (where) can you change the Security Update default location from C: drive to another drive?
Where is the drive clean utility? Sometimes when the server is low on space, a pop-up comes up "Low on space, do you want to clean up files to make more space" option. Where is this on server 2008?
Thank you
b.
Is there a solution to have an end-user (Non-Technical) get a report of a user's Logon/Logoff activity for time/billing puposes?
A user requires access to Remote users' logon/logoff activity for time tracking purposes.
Is there a software which can be run from a Windows 7 Pro workstation (Domain joined) to access the Audit logs to extract the user's logon/logoff time stamps and calculate their hours worked?

RDS 2012R2 - The following servers are not part of this pool....
Is it just me....
why do all the RDS servers regularly disappear from RDSM? It's simple to resolve by adding them back into Server Manager > Manage > Add Servers.
Corrupted roaming RDS Profiles maybe?

Failed to create KVP sessions string. Error Code 0x8007007A
I have two RDS servers running Server 2012, and since a couple of days users are reporting they get disconnected often. In the eventlogs, I found a couple of events where a user was disconnected without further information. I also found a lot of "Failed to create KVP sessions string" events. I couldn't find any relevant information about this event, but it appears the most at moments when users are being disconnected from the RDS server.
This is the event:
