Remote Desktop Server Can't find Licensing 2012 Terminal Server

Hello:

I am running Windows 2012 Terminal Services on a 2003 domain.  I have purchased and configured 5 CALs, and deployed them on and 2012 server, which is also the licensing server.  License manages shows them active and valid, but clients can still not connect.  Fire wall is configured for incoming connections.  I have followed the steps in the blog:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2013/09/20/rd-licensing-configuration-on-windows-server-2012.

I have been researching this for a couple of days now and I am stumped.  I have removed and reinstalled the licensing server role.  I can connect to the admin console using mstsc /admin, but not for a regular user just remote desktop.

Server is in the Terminal server licensing AD group.  I also still have a Window s 2003 Terminal server running in the domain which I can get rid of right now due to a legacy app running on it.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Win2003 Serving as Licensing server holding 600 User CAL.

Is there a way I can assign some CALs to a standalone Windows 2008 OS.

RemoteAPP and screen resolution

Good afternoon.

Clients (Windows XP) are connected to the one specific program on the server (Server 2012) by the RDP (remoteAPP) shortcut. Many people are not satisfied with the small font, or high brightness of font. We have access to many parameters through connection to the Remote Desktop, including - screen resolution. Here, there are no such parameters on the RDP-shortcut. How can I customize the display settings in remoteapp shortcuts on individual clients (in separate sessions)?

Thank you for Your help.

Is It Possible To Create User Specific NTFS Junction Points?

$

We have some software that we would like to move from individual machines to remote desktops.  The problem is that the software has to run out of a specific directory on the C: drive (i.e. C:\MySoftware).  I know I can use an NTFS Junction Point to point C:\MySoftware to C:\AnotherFolder.  However, I would like to be able to do this on a user level.

For example, for USER1 C:\MySoftware would point to C:\USER1MySoftware, for USER2 C:\MySoftware would point to C:\USER2MySoftware, etc.

I thought I might be able to do it by including a %username% variable in the junction path but that gets resolved when setting up the junction not when it is referenced.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Issues with certificate mismatch connecting to Session Host server

$

I am in the process of configuring a remote desktop environment in 2012 R2. I am allowing internal and external access through RDWeb. My configuration is as follows:

RDWeb/Gateway on server NAT'd through firewall
Server DNS name (internal) rdweb.company.com
192.168.1.1 (Internal)/ 345.678.901.1 (external IP, secured with SSH. Gateway.company.com/rdweb)

RD Connection Broker
Server DNS Name (internal) rdbroker.company.com (assigned by changing the server name using a powershell script)
(192.168.1.2)

RD Session Host
Server DNS name (internal) rdsh.internal.company.com
(192.168.1.3)

Each server has a wildcard certificate installed on it.
Have DNS multi-zoned internal: company.com, internal.company.com

I have published apps on the RDWeb site. When launching an app, my issue arises when the connection broker hands off to the session host server - only when connecting from an external (off domain) machine - I get a "name mismatch" error certificate pop-up saying:

The remote computer could not be authenticated due to problems with its security certificate
Name mismatch
Requested remote computer: rdsh.internal.company.com
name in the certificate for the remote computer: *.company.com (wildcard cert)

Certificate errors
The server name on the certificate is incorrect.

Now, from what I can see, this only occurs when connecting from a remote computer - not from a computer connected to the domain. How, if I can, do I stop this from happening? I ultimately would want this session host server to use the wildcard certificate, but why does the session broker seem to use the internal FQDN instead of the name I specify through the wildcard?

Also, in a sewnse, I guess I am trying to figure out is if there is a way to either fix this with a self-signed cert from the machine (tried that, it just says that this is an untrusted cert from an untrusted provider) or manipulate the RDS implementation/Session Host server in a way which mimics the name I want to pass through. My wildcard certs work on the Web/gateway server and on the connection broker - this is configured automatically through the RDS configuration when building out the servers. There is nothing in the configuration, however, which talks about securing the session host server. Has anyone run into this, and how have you fixed it? Internal on the domain, Kerberos fixes it. When external though, it does not use Kerberos. How does this get fixed for external access where the cert error will not come up? I've read that having the 8.0 RDP client installed on a client machine will fix it, but I tried this, and I still get certificate errors when the connection broker hands off the connection to the session host server.

Any help is appreciated!

usrlogon.cmd

Hi,

On our terminal services server, every time a user logs in, the usrlogon.cmd window pops up and prevents logging on until it has been closed down. I have disabled the command prompt which i'm guessing is why this usrlogon.cmd window pops up but is there any way i can hide it during the logon process?

I have seen numerous threads that adjust a registry key to run a batch file or executable or override the userlogon.cmd window. If anyone could shed some light on this, it would be much appreciated.

Hasan

2012 R2 RD Gateway via ARR Reverse Proxy fails when using MacBook

We have a system setup and working were remote users can access an RD Gateway via a Reverse Proxy (Application Request Routing) perfectly well from Windows clients.

When a user tried to access the system using their MacBook (using the RDP client from iTunes) it is really slow and hangs so much it's unusable. If the same MacBook accesses the RD Gateway without going via the Reverse Proxy it works fine!

Has anyone else had this problem and if so is there anything that can be changed on the Reverse Proxy to help with this problem?

Cheers for now

Network printing issue in RDS 2012 r2 server

Is there a way to print to network printers in a office without having to map each printer to each session host. Is there a method of redirection that would use your local print drivers to print a document in RDS. I have tested with the gpo in RDS for printer redirection(disabled policy) and using the easy print driver first(not configured). The only method that i have come across is mapping the printer locally to the session host this would be quite tedious since we have over 50 network printers in two different sites not including country offices. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thank you,

James

how do i show remote apps on server 2012 RWA on the gateway

hi all

i have a virtual setup where there is a 2012 standard configured as the rd gateway  ( i have configured anywhere access on this instance using the dashboard hence i think rwa connects to this machine)and a separate instance configured for TS which is configured for the rd licensing and rd session host, rd connection broker and rd web access.

i have created a session collection on the ts box but the check box for show session collection in rd web access is greyed out hence when i connect to the remote web access using remote.xxxx.com.xx all i see is the different pcs and the shared folders but no remote apps.

i am trying to set up a rdp file to automatically just open the app without having to go through full desktop, but don't know where i went wrong.

i can see the remote apps in the ts machine but the box to show on  web access is greyed out

furthermore i can access the remote apps using https://tsfqdn.local/rdweb from inside the network but not from outside.

please help

apologies for the noob question

User Profile Disks are breaking IE Trusted Sites GPO settings

Hello all,

I'm experiencing a weird problem that I can't wrap my mind around. I have a Session Collection with 10 servers, all running Server 2012 (not R2). This collection has been setup with User Profile Disks, stored on a central file server. I am storing ONLY the roaming profile settings and user registry data, as shown below.

We also use Group Policy to set IE trusted sites (Computer Configuration > Administrative Tools > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Internet Control Panel > Security Page > Site to Zone Assignment List).

Occassionaly, a user's Trusted Sites will not work correctly. No sites are populated in IE. I can resolve the issue for that user by deleting their profile disk and allowing RDS to create a new one.

I don't understand why a User Profile Disk would be affecting the IE Trusted Sites list, especially considering we are using aComputer Configuration GPO setting, not a User Configuration setting. Does anyone know where I can look to understand what is happening?

RDS 2012 - configuration/deployment questions

Hi,

I am in the process of building an RDS deployment with Session Broker and Session Host servers (no Gateways). That being said I would like to deploy the following servers:

                            1. RDSCB01 (Connection Broker)
                            2. RDSCB02 (Connection Broker)
                            3. RDSHost01 (Host)
                            4. RDSHost02 (Host)

I would like to configure the brokers in HA - I don't have external Load Balancers just native Microsoft can be used for this project.

Connection Broker: There are multiple articles on how to setup 2 Broker servers in HA. Example: http://thewolfblog.com/2014/02/02/configuring-ha-for-the-remote-desktop-connection-broker/

A few questions:

If I configure DNS RR for the brokers if one the servers is down then there is a potential that users will continue to go the server that's not available - correct?

-To avoid that can I get the Broker servers configured through MS native NLB? The Broker servers are going to be VMs running from Hyper-V nodes. If so, can someone provide a "How to guide" that explains the process.

Session Host Collections - Multiple Servers

I would like to create a collection that will include RDSHost1 and RDSHost2, as far as I know natively you can configure both servers to be Load Balanced through the deployment Wizard (In Overview, right-click RD Session Host and click Add RD Session Host Servers.)

How is that going to work if one of the Host Servers that belong to that collection is down? Are new connections going to be sent to any of the available servers?

I have install Server2012 R2 Standard edition.  I have purchased 20 RDS CALS.  I have about remote users but no more than 15 logged in at any one time.  Can anyone answer if the RDS CALS are concurrent or do I need to buy a license for each user?

Problems with VS2012 Premium edition published from remote servers

Hi Team

Request your assistance for the below issue in VS2012 Premium edition published to us. We are working in Citrix Xen desktop and VS2012 is published to us from remote web servers(Windows 2008 R2 64 bit server machines). Our project folders are in network drive(say, h:) which is also a remote location to Xen desktop.

We are experiencing lot of issues in VS2012 published remotely this way:
Whenever any windows patch is installed on the remote web server the VS2012 installed in the server crashes on opening from our Xendesktop. The error message is "VS2012 has stopped working. Check online for solution/Debug/Close the program" popup. Sometimes it says 'MSBuild.exe has stopped working' or 'VisualStudio.WebHost.exe has stopped working' and VS closes suddenly.

The network team have rebooted the server machine, and reverted the patches to make it work again. But since windows patching is a mandatory requirement this is only a temporary solution as VS2012 will crash again on next windows update. WE have installed the necessary updates for VS2012 after windows patch but still that doesn't resolve the issue.

Now in the recent days we are experiencing a new issue. "The network BIOS command limit has been reached. Please refer to Microsoft knowledge based article 810866."  I have referred msdn solution and also tried to make the required registry changes with the help of my network team. But that did not resolve it. These issues are inconsistent. When we login to citrix next day as fresh session suddenly it starts working and half way through our development we start experiencing any of the above mentioned issues.

The network team has clearly mentioned that it is not possible to install VS2012 in local machine and can only publish VS2012 remotely to us.

Can you please let me know whether there is any solution to the crash issues and network BIOS command limit error issue as this is interrupting our development time of project very badly? And please provide your suggestions whether we can work in VS2012 with this remote set up and what can be the cause of these issues?

Remoteapp SSO

RDS 2012 R2 with a gateway, 1 broker and 2 session hosts not using UPD.  I have followed:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2012/06/25/remote-desktop-web-access-single-sign-on-now-easier-to-enable-in-windows-server-2012.aspx

on both the remote server and local client. Still getting prompted for credentials. These PC's are a combination of windows 10 and windows 7 (currently trying to get it working on windows 10 client). These clients are non-domain joined. I have also tried credential manager in the client control panel->still prompting for credentials. Is there any way to use SSO for these client PC's? if nothing else, Maybe a GP to keep the client connected for x hours?

Hi,

its possible to have 2 languages (czech and german) on the one Windows Server 2012R2? I have 2 groups
with DE users and CZ users. My vision is, when user from DE user group is signed to terminal server,
his display language is german and when is from CZ group - he has czech display language.
I tested settings with group policy - created a 2 new GPO - RDS2012R2-CZ and RDS2012R2-DE -
window security, I chose the appropriate group and set User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Regional and Language Options
.... but no effect.

thx

Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Server - User session hangs when logging off

From time to time, a user's session hangs when signing out of the Windows 2012 <g class="gr_ gr_17 gr-alert gr_gramm Punctuation multiReplace" data-gr-id="17" id="17">RDS .</g>

This has happened to two different users. Each time the session hangs with the message "Signing Out" and the user cannot sign back in as they are presented with the same message when doing so.

I have logged in to the RDS as an administrator, checked the task manager and found an office application is still running, such as Excel. I have noticed this each time a user's session hangs.

When <g class="gr_ gr_18 gr-alert gr_tiny gr_spell ContextualSpelling multiReplace" data-gr-id="18" id="18">i</g> end the process of the office application and log the user off via the Task Manager, the user can log in again.

I have reinstalled the office software and still occurs every now and then....

Any suggestions?

Finishing remote control session

I have a question, how can a remote controlled user finish the remote control session? Example:
Both user are administrator, user A and user B have a RDP session on a server. B would like to support user A. Now user B initiate a remote control session with a known hot key combination. But how can user A finish the remote control session from ITSELF (in this case user A) without log off User B?

Many thanks for your answers.

Hi guys. We having a issue, that when someone is moving a file from a network mapped drive connected through webdav. When a user is moving a file from his desktop to this mapped drive no message appears. But when the user is moving the file from the mapped drive to his desktop and it is a roaming profile. A security window appears and says, are you sure you want to do this. The path is like \\servername\homes\username\Desktop. Both places, so the unc path and the webdav address are under the trusted sites. Now is the question. Why this is happening?
