Assigning Static IP Address to VMs Automatically When Created
Change VM IP Address When Logging In
I have a scenario that I need the VMs to have static IP addresses according to the physical machine that I'm connecting from, I have a program which is installed on every VM that is communication with an IP hardware device located with every physical machine that I'm connecting from, the configuration for this application is to have for example the PC (192.168.1.2) communicating with the hardware (192.168.2.2), so I need that always when I connect to a VM (From an RDS VMs Pool) to connect to a VM with the IP 192.168.1.2.
Is there a way to achieve this while still have the RDS VMs Pool?

Server 2012 RDS - User Profile Disks - Errors during Logoff
I have set up a test Server 2012 RDS collection (Single Server for now) and implemented User Profile disks.
I have two problems.
First: My generic test user can connect and does successfully use the user profile disk as expected. However, atlogoff, the system event log contains these errors:
The error (NTFS 137) is: The default transaction resource manager on volume C:\Users\ts3.test encountered a non-retryable error and could not start. The data contains the error code.
The warning (NTFS 50) that concerns me is:
It appears that the user profile disk is being "disabled" or "disconnected" before the profile data is completely written at logoff. What can I do to troubleshoot this?
Second:
Update: A post from Mike Connor on the following page: -LINK- solved
the problem described below.
My administrative user always logs on now with a temporary profile. At the beginning, the UPD was working and mounting. That stopped working. In attempting to troubleshoot, I logged the admin user off and deleted the UPD disk file from the share. I remember it working again after generating a new UPD disk file in the share. Soon, it quit working again. I deleted the UPD disk file again from the share and ever since, it has never regenerated a new UPD andalways logs on with a temporary profile.

Default Printer Not Staying Set in TS 2008 R2
We recently set up a new server farm, and users are having issues with their profiles not retaining their default printers. We are well aware of the issue with redirected printers, and have made appropriate GPO's to correct that issue for those users who connect from a Windows 7 client. This issue affects users who have no redirected printers whatsoever. In most cases, the users are connecting via thin clients.
What happens is, a user logs in, sets their printer. They work for the day and log off. When they log back in the next day, their default printer is now set to something different than what they set it to the previous day.
We are running a server farm with 5 RDP Servers running Server 2008 R2. Users connect through a session broker, also running server 2008 R2.
Our session broker also doubles as a print server. Printers are published through group policy to specific groups of users. Some users only have one or two printers, whereas other users may have the need to have many printers. It would be very difficult and time consuming to create policies to set default printers for each user, just to correct this inconvenience.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jamestown
Windows Server 2008 R2 RDS Farm help
Hi all. My predecessor built an RDS farm before his position was eliminated and now I'm needing to get something working within the farm and am having difficulty with it. I think it's a simple thing that I'm just overlooking.
We have 3 servers that make up the farm - 1 connection broker and 2 session hosts all of which are running Server 2008 R2 and are up to date on all patches, service packs, etc. They're all pretty much identical, even down to the hardware.
The issue has to do with using RemoteApps. We have a few setup in the farm which we've made accessible via links in the user's Juniper SSL VPN session. A user would log into the SSL VPN web page and have a list of links right there on their start page. Links to these RemoteApps show up there as well.
The issue is that when I click on one of the links I eventually get an error message stating "The connection cannot proceed because authentication is not enabled and the remote computer requires that authentication be enabled to connect." What happens next is the Remote Desktop login window appears, the same one that appears if I just fire up Remote Desktop Connection and connect to a server, where I can enter my network credentials. What it shows is the computer name\my network username. That's why I believe I'm getting this authentication is not enabled error message. It should be trying to log me into the domain, not the local server. What I can't figure out is how to fix that - how to make it so it'll attempt to log me into the domain versus the local server.
I've checked everywhere and it appears everything is setup correctly - the Domain Users group is in the Remote Desktop Users group on each server in the farm, the connection broker has all the servers in the farm in the Session Broker Computers group, the TS Web Access Computers and Access Administrators groups have what should be those groups, etc.
I'm out of ideas and can't find the answer via Google because I can't find a case where someone is using RemoteApps like I'm trying to use it. Can any of you help?
Machine Reservation
Good afternoon all,
I have been tasked with moving our powerful desktops into the data center. Right now we have VMware view to do this. What I'm looking for is a piece of software to manage reservations. Like a temporary link to a machine that would expire. I have used terminal services for a long time but I don't know of anything that would do this. A web site with a wizard would be ideal. We have about 3000 employees that would use this system and I don't want to handle the administration. Another goal of this project is to be able to run our models from remote sites.
Does anybody know of any way to accomplish this? I might be able to write code inside VMware View but for the amount of time they have given me to complete this task that is out of the question.
Thanks for any and all help,
Tim
2012 RDS Licensing diagnoser shows licenses available, but I get no licenses available when I try to connect.
Can't connect to my RD Session Host. When logging into RDP session I get the message "remote session was disconnected because there are no remote desktop license servers available to provide a license". Licensing Diagnoser on the session host is all green with the License Server correctly identified and 400 licenses available. This was working previously and then I was trying to get the RemoteApp Web Feed working (certificate problem) and I went into Deployment Properties->Certificates and Created a new certificate (Untrusted) for RD Connection Broker and RD Web Access. That's all I've changed, so I'm assuming this has something to do with the problem. Anyone know what's going on?
New 2008 RDS license server, 2003 Terminal Servers. Verify attachment
I have two issues, let's go with the easy one first.
I have a set of 2003 Terminal Servers running Citrix XenApp that have been getting their licenses from a 2003 Terminal Server License server. I'm needing to move off this server so I updated to the 2008 server and added the 500 RDS User CALs to that license server. I need to verify that the servers are now obtaining their TS/RDS licenses from the new server. I initially attempted to do this attachment as I did before, going to each TS server and attaching to the license server. That doesn't work, but I was able to go into the Remote Desktop Services Manager and add the TS servers to the group. It "appears" as if the connections are working as when I look at this group in the Remote Desktop Services Manager I see the connections of those servers, RDP and ICA. But, when I go onto the license server and attempt to run a report for "Per User CAL Usage", it doesn't show any usage.
Second issue. A group of my TS/Citrix servers are on the other side of a firewall, so I am unable to add those in the Remote Desktop Services Manager on the license server. Ports 3389 and 135, 137 are open, so are there other ports needed for the license server to be able to add them?

Remote Desktop high availability (SQL licensing)
Question about RDS Server HA licensing. The suggested HA broker model requires SQL Server (min 2008 Standard) to support a HA scenario (see link below). Assuming implementation of this model, would each users/device now require a SQL Server Cal? Since the SQL DB is solely in place to support the RDS server, the users/devices wouldn't necessarily fall into a traditional multiplexing scenario. I can't find any documentation on this, but thought the question must have been answered/asked at some point.
Appreciate any guidance.

The user profile service failed the logon user profile cannot be loaded
Hi
I have a problem with one of my users where she cannot log onto two of the four terminal servers in my RDS farm, she gets the error above. The user has a roaming profile on a file server. I tried finding the SID under profile list in the registry to delete it on the terminal servers and on the file server but cannot find the SID. I also tried deleting the roaming profile completely to see if that would help but it does not. This is on Server 2008R2 Standard.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Brad.
Setup Terminal licensing on server 2012 standard
HI,
I have installed windows server 2012 standard with Domain AD (Active Directory).
Now I'm trying to install terminal licensing and I always get an error:
In Scenario-based deployment (quick deployment), the wizard says "unable to install the role services" at Remote Desktop Services role services stage, then Session collection and RemoteApp programs are cancelled.
After this error happens, Server Manager itself has this error: Role and feature refresh failed with the following error: The request to list features available on the specified server failed. The operation cannot be completed, because the server that you specified requires a restart.
I don't know if I making the right steps, I only want to setup remote access to 10 users.
I don't know if I need to setup a VMachine to do that hope not, I remember that on sbs 2008 I think I had a VMachine because I couldn't install terminal licensing on AD.
any help??
Setup Quota on User Profile Disk in a Windows 2012 RDS Session Host Deployment.
Is there any way to set quotas on UPD files ?
We test the following:
Setup a Share for the UPD Files. Enable Quota on the drive.
Change the owner of the UPD File after first logon to the corresponding User.
After the Quota was reached the Desktop chrashed :(
now we want to test:
change the size in the RDS Farm Settings after users already log in.
-SaveDelayMinutes 3 Fails
When I run the following command to edit some configuration of a virtual desktop collection, i receive the following error:
PS C:\Users\bart> Set-RDVirtualDesktopCollectionConfiguration ` -ConnectionBroker rdscb01.lab.local ` -CollectionName "Personal Managed Win8" ` -SaveDelayMinutes 3 Set-RDVirtualDesktopCollectionConfiguration : Error writing out properties for virtual desktop collection: Invalid parameter . At line:1 char:1+ Set-RDVirtualDesktopCollectionConfiguration `+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+ CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (:) [Write-Error], WriteErrorException+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.WriteErrorException,Set-RDVirtualDesktopCollectionConfiguration
Why does this command fails? It's just a new Win8 Managed Personal Collection....
The error comes from:
-SaveDelayMinutes 3
Without this parameter it runs just fine (also other parameters run just fine) Documentation says <Int32>.

RDS deployment failure on server 2012
Hello,
We are having a problem with RDS Deployment on server 2012. It is on the server we are using as the TS.
Standard deployment: See attached image #1
Quick deployment: See attached image #2
The situation:
Hyper V with 2 virtual machines.
Virtual machine 1: SBS 2011, DC, DHCP, DNS, AD and Exchange
Virtual machine 2: Server 2012 Standard, TS
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem?
Thank you very much.
