Help with wildcard cert

$

I have been using a self signed cert with 100% success but we are going to start support outside devices. I am looking for a guide or something to help me. I have the PEM format keys from the Certificate Authority but not sure what to do now. RDS appears to be looking for pfx keys.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Remote Desktop Connection/Disconnection Error

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 server and a Windows v8.1 laptop.  I get this message when attempting to connect to the server w/laptop:  "

The remote session was disconnected because there are no Remote Desktop License Servers available to provide a license.

Please contact the server administrator.

Connected fine prior to the grace period expiration.  Do I need to add a RD licensing server on the server or what?

I/p would be greatly appreciated!

Reactivate RD Licensing Server

I'm trying to migrate RDS CALs from a 2008 R2 licensing server to a 2012 R2 licensing server. I have added both servers to RD Licensing Manager on the new server. When I right-click the old server and choose Manage Licenses, I am presented with the following message:

RD Warning 1

If I click Yes, it takes me to the Reactivate Licensing Server wizard. My concern is that this wizard is pre-populated with the details of an employee who has not been here for several years

RDS Warning 2

Can I update these to my own details? What happens if I do, will it break the licensing? If I don't update it, will a confirmation email of some kind be sent to this mailbox? If so it will be lost as the mailbox no longer exists. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to just give it a go (either way) to see what happens, as we have some critical 24x7 users consuming these CALs.

SRV2012R2 - SSO with RD-Gateway // Bypass RD Gateway Problems

Hello together,

we are using Server 2012 R2 Technology to provide Session Based Desktops and RemoteApps.
Servers are as following:
s05 - Profileserver 10.5.0.5
s06 - RDWeb + RDGateway (Local + DMZ IP) 10.5.0.6
s10 - RDBroker 10.5.0.10
s12 - RD Licensing 10.5.0.12
s13-15 - Session Hosts 10.5.0.13-15
s20-21 - RemoteApp Hosts 10.5.0.20-21

We mostly use the published Desktop. All Clients are Windows 7 Clients.
We configured SSO according to this Article (link) and it works like a charm.

However, we are also using RemoteApp Technology to provide external partners access to some internal ressources. This should also be done by RemoteApp. We have the external way working, but some partners can't access, they are getting prompted for passwords when connecting to an App. We figured out that this is related to the Deployment Property"Bypass RD Gateway server for local addresses" .

The Partner is currently blocking the access to his internal 10.5.x.x network as this is a internal reserved network on their side.
Users get an ICMP Response "administratively prohibited" and it seems that the RD Connection Client can't handle this reply and crashes with endless password prompts.

We deactivated "Bypass RD Gateway server for local addresses" and then - of course - the connection worked.
But, now all my internal clients must enter their passwords again in order to connect to session hosts. Single Sign on is no longer working.

We do not have deep knowledge in RDS / TS Gateway so any help is appreciated...

SSO GPO:
Allow delegating default credentials / NTLM only / saved credentials / saved NTLM -> FQDN of the Broker

RemoteApp Host GPO
Always prompt for password - disabled

Deployment Properties:
Use RD Gateway credentials for remote computers (checked)

2012 R2 Licensing server issue

We upgraded our license server to 2012 R2 several months ago. We only use Per Device CALS. The server is fully patched as of today. The license server is running on a Domain Controller and the License server is in the Terminal Server License Servers group as is the Network Service.

Licensing overall seems to be working fine IE; issuing CALS, upgrading CALS, etc.

The issue(s) we have are this:

1) It issues temporary 2003 Per device CALS (as it should) and in several months, it has only upgraded 19 CALS to permanent out of 1300. Most all of these devices connect daily. Plenty of licenses available. Expired 2003 licensesare not being removed from the console and it is not issuing multiple CALS to a device as is happening with our 2008 and 2012 licenses (see below).

2) When a temporary 2008 or 2012 device license is issued, it issues multiple licenses to the same device. When the licenses are upgraded it is the same thing. Multiple licenses for the same device are upgraded to permanent. We have several users who have multiple temporary licenses and permanent licenses for the same device. Although we have plenty of available licenses, this is not right.

In our efforts to try and resolve this problem, we have deactivated and activated new license servers a few times. We have activated them all different ways with the same result.

We have 2 separate forest where we have the exact same behavior.

Aside from event ID 42 (An error occurred in policy module "Policy Module for company Microsoft Corporation product A02 has denied new license request with error code 14.)

We have no other errors in the event viewer.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

It freeze for 1 or 2 min and the user connected can't do anything ( Server do not respond).

They are 12 users connected. The server is on Vmware Essential 5.0.

The server is up to date.

I already installed kb2974313 no change.

RDS Depolyment Automation (RD-CB Not available when in PS-Session?)

$

Hi all again,

I seem to be stuck again this is all server 2012 R2. I am attempting to fully automate a RDS deployment utilizing PowerShell, I however have ran into two problems... one being that when I am in a PS-Session on the connection broker is says that the RD Connection broker isn't available? Again this is while I am actually remotely connected using Enter-PSSession.

[RD-CD FQDN]: PS C:\Users\XXX.XXX\Documents> get-rdserver -ConnectionBroker [RD-CD FQDN]
get-rdserver : The RD Connection Broker server is not available. Verify that you can connect to the RD Connection Broker server.

While this might not necessarily be a problem, whenever I attempt to run a Get-RDCertificate or similar command (trying to set the deployment certificates here) I am told that no deployment exists! And to me at least, what I find bizarre is that if I RDP to that same connection broker and look at the Remote Desktop Services tab, everything checks out and looks fine.

[RD-CD FQDN]: PS C:\Users\XXX.XXX\Documents> Get-RDCertificate
Get-RDCertificate : A Remote Desktop Services deployment does not exist on [RD-CD FQDN]

So my question is - Have I missed something in the configuration of this RDS deployment? Or is this just not possible?

Multiplatform roll out for RDS

This may seem as a trivial question but can you have multiple versions of Windows Server when you rollout RDS. My plan is to stick with a base rollout for the component servers(ex RD Gateway and Licensing server...) probably Windows server 2008R2 or 2012 R2, however for the Session Host am i able to have a farm of 2008 and 2012 servers? I ask this because some applications that we have run now in 2008 but have not been tested on a 2012 server. I am kind of under the gun with this since our licensing for Citrix is expiring and we are moving forward with RDS rather quickly. I would like to know your thoughts.

THanks

Can't establish RDP-Connection; 2 CALs available? 2008R2 RDS

$

Hi,

i encountered a suspect problem.

We have a Windows Server 2008R2 with installed RDS-Role. For many years, we used a 5-User-CAL - no problems.

No we got some new Users (8 in total), so we bought a separate 5-User-RDS-Cal (2012 R2, downgraded it to 2008 by phone).

Actual, we have the problem, that only 6 Users can connect via RDP to the server. If the 7. tries to connect, the RDP-Connection can't be established; error (translated from german): "This computer cannot establish a connection to the remote computer". If i kick a user from the server, i can immediatly connect from my workstation.

The RDS-Licensemanager is installed on the same system; it show's 2x5 CALs (correctly installed). If i run a report, it says:8 from 10 total licenses used - so we should have 2 free.

Here's a screenshot from the report: ddlw.org/img/h5mrh1qv.jpg (sorry, can't insert pictures at this moment)

The Best-practice-analyzer for RDS show's up no error, even in the the eventlog there are no RDS-relevant Errors/Warnings/Informations.

Both CALs are definitly RDS-USER-Cals, and the RDS-Host is setup for User-Cals.

Maybe, someone has a solution for our problem?

Remote Desktop sound stops working after a while.

Has anyone a solution to this problem of the sound just dropping out of a RDP connection after a day or two?

Win Server2008 (32 bit) running as a Terminal Server.

WIN 7 Clients (32 bit)

Sound is absolutely critical on the program being ran on the WIN7 clients when connecting via RDP to the Server 24/7.

But the sound just stops working on the RDP clients after a day or two.

If I minimize the RDP session and try the sound from the native windows session it works, but sound is not working within the RDP session.

and it takes a restart of the RDP session to restore sound, but then aftera day or two I get a call to say the sound is no longer working- a restart of the RDP sessions restores the sound.

I have checked the Environment sound settings in the RDP setup on the clients and have them set to play on the client, and I have checked that sound is not disabled in the Terminal Server end of things for RDP sessions.

I would really appreciate to help with this if anyone has suggestions.

Sound in Remote Desktop Session stops working

Hello,

I have a sound issue with a 2008 server (32 bit). I'm monitoring the server via an RDP-Session that's up and running 24/7. Sometimes, the audio-output on the Client PC (Win 7 pro, 32 bits too) fells silent. Sound on the ClientPC itself (outside the RDP-Session) is fine, within the Session everything seems to be okay (volume control, Microsoft RDP Audio Device), just there is no sound. If I close the Session and reconnect, sound is back - sometimes for a day, sometimes for a week... Audio in the Console-Session or in other RDP-Sessions at the same time is flawless.

The WAN-Link between the two sites is a bit shabby, but as long as the session itself doesn't break I don't see a reason why a few beeps shouldn't come through.

After searching for a solution for a while now I have found hundreds of threads and solutions for no sound in RDP-Sessions at all, even a MS-Hotfix for shabby sound - but obviously I'm the only guy with such a problem.

Ideas anyone?

Thanks.

I have currently set up and in production 2 x remote desktop servers, which is working fine on one session host, however we have set up load balancing, and this is the part that we are having issue with. all connections go to the one server and never the other, I cant find the problem at all.

would a Microsoft support call be able to support this kind of fix , as it may need some re-configuring and It is in a live environment?

Hello,

by now i have one public static ip for each server and one for the nlb.

But now i need to reduce the number of public ip only to 1 and i will assign it to the nlb

In this scenario is still possible to open an rdp connection to my lan?

If not, how can i access my lan remotely?

If yes, which server will serve my connection? a random one? can i still chose the server to connect to, or i need to open an rdp connection within the server that served my first rdp connection?

Hello,

In our company environment we have RDS farm server based on Win 2012. Everything works fine, but time to time we are not able to log off disconnected users from remote session. Error message appearing when we try to do this.

I also have tried to log off user via powershell "Invoke-RDUserLogoff" but it still with no success.

Only server restart helps to solve this.

Maybe it some other solutions exist for this problem. Also it will be good to know the reason of this problem.

Thank you.

Remote Desktop Services (RemoteApp) - RDP rights issue

$

Hello all,

I was wondering if someone might be able to help me out with an issue I'm having.

Server 2008 R2 Stand

Client Windows 7 64it.

I have the Remote Desktop Services Setup, and I pick which application I want and created the .rdp file for it.

I added the server and the user to the "TS Web Access Computers" group, added the user to "Remote Desktop Users" group, and added the computer names to the "Terminal Server Computers" group.

If I run the DRP from my computer using an admin credentials it works fine and the program opens through the RDP. But If I run the same RDP on my machine using the end users credentials, it does not work. It says:

Error Reading Registry Entry

Error in ReadRegKey

Requested registry access is not allowed.

It's obviously a rights issue but I'm stuck as to where I can allow him to view/read the registry key he needs let alone which one. By default shouldn't he be able to view any registry key? I have the domain users group added to the built-in users group so what am I missing? any help would be appreciated

2012 R2 VDI - Win 8.1 VMs - Cause duplicate IP errors/disconnects

$

We have a 2012 R2 VDI deployment using multiple desktop pool collections. We are having an issue where our Wyse thin clients disconnect from their desktop connection. We have found that this is caused by a different VM being resorted back to is original checkpoint and attempting the IP it had at that time. This happens every time we have a user logs off.  I know we can not disconnect the network at the time when the checkpoint is taken due to the process also joining the image to the domain.  Is there any other way we can force the VM to ask for a DHCP address prior to attempting its old IP?  Thanks!

Unable to manage deployment via Server Manager, refresh never completes

I have a problem with a 6 server deployment is unable to be managed from Server Manager. When you bring up the Remote Desktop Services section, it will show all servers online however no collections or servers are shown in the other two windows.  It seems to be refreshing the panes however it never stops.  This can be replicated on multiple other servers.  Issue is possible the connection broker?  Also, deployment seems to be fine when managed via powershell.  All roles show correctly and all collections are functioning correctly.  Only seems to be a Server Manager issue with the Remote Desktop Servers module on the Connection Broker.   Any ideas?  Thank!
