ARR URL Rewrite for RD Web Access

We currently have a Reverse Proxy configured and working for remote users to access an RD Web Access farm.

They currently use https://serverurl.co.uk/rdweb to access the site but we'd like to remove the requirement for the /rdweb portion of the URL.

I've tried changing the rules on the proxy server but can't seem to get connected when trying to use justhttps://serverurl.co.uk

I though it would be as easy as matching the serverurl and then manually adding /rdweb as the path (rather than using the {R:0} but this doesn't seem to work?

Any ideas?

system sound delay RDP session with Windows server 2012 R2 standard

I have the following problem during a RDP session with a Microsoft Terminal Server 2012 R2 standard:
when i produce a system sound, the delay could be up to 15 seconds before I hear the cound on the client side.
making immediately a second system sound, the delay is minimal,
When i wait about 10 minutes, the delay could be again 5-15 seconds.
This problem occurs both with Windows 7 and Motorola Scanners

I also noticed that after making a sound on the first device, there is also no delay when making immediately a sound on a second RPD session.

I tried different settings for audioqualitymode or audiocapturemode, no luck

Removing Public folder and user account

I have discovered recently that a Public user account and related folders has been created on my pc. the result has been thatprograms were installed on this folder and corrupted the structure of the program (DAZ Studio 3D) and with their support we had to reinstall all the programs and 97 addons! Nvidia creates UPDATUSUSER Accounts for their drivers update without the user knowing it or being able to control its access.

This is outrageous and a felony concerning the confidentiality international laws on the internet .

I want this user account and folder eradicated from my pc.

Windows is not authorized in any way to create without my strict consent an account on my pc that I cant manage.I have never had in the past in previous versions of Windows such an account and will not accept it whatever new versions of windows I use;

How can I suppress the account and related folders as again some installed programs have gone there

KB 2833839, how to to perform "Add License Server to Terminal Server License Servers group"

Hello,

in preparation of a migration towards Terminal Server environment in the practice of my wife which will then be deployed by our system partner, I've setup a demo system using Windows Server 2012 R2 180-days evaluation version.

Since the environment won't be a domain/AD but a simple work group I followed the instructions provided in

Everything is working fine so far, except I wasn't able to apply step 3 (Add License Server to Terminal Server License Servers group). In licmgr.exe I do not see a Review link. I can manually create a new group 'Terminal Server License Servers' and also could add users to it. But how can I add the license server to this group? It is not listed in the users list.

Could you please instruct in greater detail how to perform this step. If this isn't required in work group mode it would be fine for me as well. In any case it would be a good idea to clarify this step and update the above KB article as well.

I was following the Test Lab Guide: RD Licensing

Step 4 "Request RDS Beta CALs" is failing since the provided link https://licensecode.one.microsoft.com/ is broken. Or better: This website only responds with an error and no beta cals can be obtained therefore. Tried with several browsers, result is always the same. Not sure if the root cause is the expired security certificate (expired 15. November 2014).

Please could you either fix this server problem, provided an alternative link or any other way to get evaluation RDS user CALs for my trials. Very few and valid for few days are fully sufficient.

RDS - .local domain and external users. Best way to get rid of SSL warnings

I am evaluating MS RDS as a possible solution for a VDI implementation at the college I work for.  When we setup our AD years ago we set it up as a .local domain.  I am running into issues with the .local machine name on the connection broker for external users.  I know for internal domain systems we can setup the self signed .local cert as a trusted root cert to bypass the self signed untrusted warning  but for the bulk of our users which will be using systems external to our domain they will get the SSL warning about the self signed certificate when they try to connect to a remote app or a desktop.

Initially I thought if I setup a local AD CA that we could setup a trust relationship with the SSL cert.  After further reading I believe that this would only work for systems internal to our domain and we would still have the issue with external devices.

The other option would be to tell our users to click the box to never display the warning message again and to go on or to add the self signed cert to their trusted list.  Of course when ever you ask the user to do something there will be issues.  We have also found that in our testing that we can not seem to connect via the web portal with a macbook.  We get an error that there is a problem with the trust relationship with the server after we login and click on an app or a desktop to connect.  We have been able to connect with iOS devices.  

We could of course rename the .local domain to a .edu domain which would permit us to use our wildcard certificate but that is a major undertaking that we don't want to cross at the moment.  I think I might have some up with a solution and wanted to bounce the idea off of those on this forum.

If we setup a second domain on campus that is not a .local.  Join the non internet facing RDS systems to this new domain that would have a SSL cert that was trusted and then setup a full trust relationship between the two domains such that users and systems in one domain could communicate with the systems in the other domain would that remove the certificate warnings for external users?

Unable to disconnect session 0

Hello,

In our company environment we have RDS farm server based on Win 2012. Everything works fine, but time to time we are not able to log off disconnected users from remote session. Error message appearing when we try to do this.


I also have tried to log off user via powershell "Invoke-RDUserLogoff" but it still with no success.

Only server restart helps to solve this.

Maybe it some other solutions exist for this problem. Also it will be good to know the reason of this problem.

RemoteApp on Windows VIsta/XP Save Credentials Problem

Hi,

I've experienced a problem with the deployment of a RemoteApp on Vista and XP: This is the scenario:

  • RemoteApp hosted on Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Clients non domain joined XP SP3 and Windows Vista 

The remote app has to run out of office on these 2 clients but I cannot do these 2 things:

  • Save credentials
  • bypass the message "Don't ask again for remote connections from the publisher" with also the settings about the redirected resources (that I want disbled)

Someone has some tips?

 I  have installed server 2012R2 and now i am not able to take remote of it  ping is working fine but if i change the ip address and then RDP works but after a reboot it again goes down. please help me out.

Performance Monitoring RDS

RDS 2012 R2. Our current setup:

  • 1 gateway (also licensing and rdweb)
  • 2 session hosts (with 1 collection)
  • 1 connection broker

All servers are hyper-v using dynamic memory up to 8GB and 4 vCPU's.

The performance seems poorer than when we had all roles installed on 1 server. How can we monitor performance on these servers? We would like to monitor CPU utilization, RAM usage and disk I/O.

Non-Perststent Windows 8.1 pool not fully reverting, consuming disk space?

I have a pool of 24 Windows 8.1 desktops that are used in a computer lab with Wyse thin clients. All the VDIs are stored on a single SSD array. We're using 2012 R2 datacenter as the host server and a 2012 server as the broker. After I built the 24 virtuals I had about one-third of the array left with free space. Over the course of several days the free space shrunk to less than ten percent. Eventually I ran out of disk space and had to delete a few virtuals to get things working again.

Trying to troubleshoot this I've been logging in and then out on each individual machine. This seems to release a little of the disk space. I've done this on about half and have freed up a good chunk of space. I have no idea on why the disk space is shrinking. Since each time I log into a virtual in the pool and log out the disk space increases, I'm assuming the pool is where the trouble is. Where would I start to look to determine what might be causing this?

Error adding RDSH to existing collections: Unable to retrieve the session collection properties

I've randomly experienced a problem on our production server. I can no longer add RDSH servers to existing collections but I can create a new collection.  The error message from add-rdsessionhost: 

Unable to retrieve the session collection properties.
    + CategoryInfo          : InvalidResult: (:) [], RDManagementException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : JobStateFailed
    + PSComputerName        : localhost

I can amend the rds.RoleRdsh table to add the server to the collection but more gtables need to be edited manually to get it working. There appears to be some kind of permissions issue editing exisitng collections but not new ones? I'm not aware of anything that has changed since I last amended a collection, the day before.

Any help would be appreciated. I can provide more information if necessary.

I am trying to establish a connection with rdweb, from a remote location, but after clicking on an application, I get the message: Cannot find external computer, contact the helpdesk about this failure.

Situation: my server 2008 r2 is a standalone server in a WORGROUP. Rd session host and licence server work properly. I installed Rd webapp and added some applications. Inside the lan I reach the website https://servername/rdweb, and i can open the applications. I did not install a certificate till now, so I get warnings about that, but after all the application works fine. 

For external access i opened port 443 and 3389 on my router. Now I can reach the website from outside my LAN by https://publicipaddress/rdweb. I can login and see the page with the applications. Once I click on one of them I get a screen with a warning "This remoteApp program can be of harm for your local or external computer. Only make a connection if you know this program....". I think this is just the certificate issue. When I click on connect I see a little screen with "RemoteApp" in which i can see that it is trying to start the application. But after a few second I get the message that the connection with RemoteApp is broken, with the message wich I wrote in the title bar.

Could this really be a certificate issue? or any other ideas?

Unable to manage deployment via Server Manager, refresh never completes

I have a problem with a 6 server deployment is unable to be managed from Server Manager. When you bring up the Remote Desktop Services section, it will show all servers online however no collections or servers are shown in the other two windows.  It seems to be refreshing the panes however it never stops.  This can be replicated on multiple other servers.  Issue is possible the connection broker?  Also, deployment seems to be fine when managed via powershell.  All roles show correctly and all collections are functioning correctly.  Only seems to be a Server Manager issue with the Remote Desktop Servers module on the Connection Broker.   Any ideas?  Thank!

The user profile service failed the logon – User cannot be loaded Windows2008R2 RDS

Dear all,

I get the error "The user profile Service failed the logon - User cannot Be Loaded" on a Server 2008 R2 RDS on some profiles.

My architecture is composed of 3 RDS server NLB.

Here are the actions that I have taken:

1/ Boot in safe mode with CHKDSK / F / R

2/ Check the "user profile login" service works and never stops.

3/ Kb followed this by removing .bak put the refcount = 0 and the state = 0 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/947215/ it’s works but after some time still the same error The user profile Service failed the logon - User cannot Be loaded "or temporary profile.

4/ Reapply the rights to C:\users\default

5/ Compress hives:
C:\ windows\system32\config\default
C:\ windows\system32\config\sam
C:\ windows\system32\config\security
C:\ windows\system32\config\software
C:\ windows\system32\config\system
C:\ windows\system32\config\components

6/ when I deletethe corruptedprofile andIcreate a new profileI alsoerrorcoming back.
