Remote Desktop Printer Redirection Stops Working Randomly on Server 2008 R2

We have a MS Windows Server 2008 R2 that is used SOLELY as a Terminal Services remote desktop server onto our network. It is used for employees who are off site and need to use the networked company software. VPN works, but is extremely slow for this software.

Over the past week, the redirected printers function has repeatedly stopped on this server. The employees need this to print to their own local printers. It will eventually restart itself, but after several hours. To get it started faster, I have to restart the server.

I've done this maybe 6 time since last Monday. This has never been an issue before, and I cannot think of any change that may have occurred that could cause this.

The Event Viewer says this:

The Remote Desktop license server cannot update the license attributes for user "DrewR" in the Active Directory Domain "XXXX.main". Ensure that the computer account for the license server is a member of Terminal Server License Servers group in Active Directory domain "XXXX.main".
If the license server is installed on a domain controller, the Network Service account also needs to be a member of the Terminal Server License Servers group.
If the license server is installed on a domain controller, after you have added the appropriate accounts to the Terminal Server License Servers group, you must restart the Remote Desktop Licensing service to track or report the usage of RDS Per User CALs.
Win32 error code: 0x80070005

(I inserted the Xs)

I've never looked at the Event Viewer on this server, but it is littered with messages such as this, and has been for months and months, so if this IS the issue, then it sure took its sweet time affecting anything.

Issue with RWA | Server 2012 R2 standard | No RemoteApps or Desktops are shown

Good Day all,

I have freshly installed a server 2012 R2 standard. I want to use this as Terminal Server that is accessible externally and internally.

I've setup all roles on the same server and created a new collection and added the Domain Admins and Domain Users to the user group for access.

But when I login into the Website I don't see any RemoteApps or Desktops.

Remote Desktop Connection/Disconnection Error

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 server and a Windows v8.1 laptop.  I get this message when attempting to connect to the server w/laptop:  "

The remote session was disconnected because there are no Remote Desktop License Servers available to provide a license.

Please contact the server administrator.

Connected fine prior to the grace period expiration.  Do I need to add a RD licensing server on the server or what?

I/p would be greatly appreciated!

Issue adding second RDSH 2012 server

Hello,

My colleague setup RDS 2012 on a single server, consisting of an RDSH, Web Gateway and licensing server. I've tried to add a second server within the setup, but whenever I open licensing diagnostics it tells me that the second server is unlicensed and the second server does not appear to be part of the same RDS collection as the first server. However, the second server can see the first as a licensing server within the RDS management console.

What's the correct procedure for adding a second RDSH to an existing RDS 2012 collection?

Thanks

RDS CALs not being issued - always zero

Hello Everyone,

I recently setup a Windows Server 2012 R2 as a RDP host for 5 clients.

This server is joined to a domain and offers RDP session for clients. 5 RDS user CALs have been installed.

RD-License diagnosis shows no problems. RD Session host is configured for "Per User" licensing mode.

The RDS license manager is also running in this server and shows 5 RDS user cals installed, but none issued.

When i generate a report, it shows failure to issue license for whichever host/user logged in.

Before I installed the RDS CAL pack, a message balloon was shown during log in, indicating that it is in trial mode. But, even this balloon has disappeared now. No other indication of failure except in license issued count & generated reports in license manager. Also more than 5 users are able to log in without any problems.

I am logged in as a domain admin when vieweing license manager and generating / viewing reports.

All RDS related services(session host, broker, gateway, licensing) run only in this server (domain controller is another seperate server).

The server should go live in a few days with much more RDS CALS added in, can anyone help me troubleshoot this problem ?

Thanks in advance.

Log on as batch task with User Profile Disks

We have a Windows Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop deployment, where we use user profile disks stored on a central file server.

We are trying to run a scheduled tasks as a user, while they are logged off.

When the tasks runs, I can see an event in event viewer that says it was unable to load the user's profile, and as such, the Excel add in that is part of the tasks is not enabled, and as such the tasks fails to complete successfully.

Is this a limitation of the user profile disks? Can the server load the user profile disk even without the user logging in interactively?

Server 2012 R2, unable to change DPI on remote desktop connection

Hello,

We have a new 2012 R2 RD deployment, and one of the things we seem to be unable to do, is change the sessions DPI settings when using a remote desktop connection.

With 2008 R2, a hotfix was made available that allowed us to do this. In 2012 R2, my understanding is that when using an RDP 8.1 enabled client, the remote session will match your local clients DPI settings. If using an older RDP client, you should be able to change the DPI manually.

As it stands, I don't seem to be able to manually change the DPI, regardless of the client I am using.

The desktop experience pack is installed, so I am not sure if there is anything else that I need to do to enable this functionality?

Thanks

Installing SAP B1 on Terminal Server

Hi guys,

I have to install and configure Terminal Server for SAP Business One 1 on Windows Server 2012R2.

I have some concerns for this implementation:

1. What is the best approach for this scenario (How many servers, what roles to be installed)?

2. Does it matter if users accessing the SAP client will be in trusted domain but not in the domain where the servers are located?

3. How users will access the application? Web?

Questions might be stupid but I do not have much experience with RDS.

Thanks in advance!

Proper way to install Google Chrome to RDS host servers??

We have several RDS hosts in a RDS farm cluster, all on Win2k12 R2 servers, they all serve a Full Desktop.

What is the correct way to install Google Chrome so that when end users open Chrome they aren't greeted with a signin screen etc.??

We just want Chrome to work like a normal browser, no fancy-schmancy signins, identities, etc.

<vent>People think they must have Chrome when in fact the SaaS provider doesn't know how to code.</vent>

Thank you, Tom

Windows Server 2012 R2 RDP sessions with 480x640 desktop size

Hi,

Many handheld devices has a 480x640 screen and are used as RDP clients with full screen sessions

In this resolution the client can interact correctly with the start screen and some of the menus and charms, but when launching applications (modern UI or desktop) the screen just goes blue. Any attempt to interact will display the start screen again, except for right click which does nothing. The issue can be reproduced from any RDP client e.g.: the native client on Win8.1 with mstsc /w 480 /h 640

Any ideas on how to get a functional 480x640 RDP session to Windows Server 2012 R2?

RDP incorectly using 2008-r2 compatible mode (VDI on 2012 r2 / 8.1 enterpise)

I have set up a VDI solution for testing, but I am having an issue getting a connection using the new features added in 2012-r2 and 8.1

When connecting from a Windows computer using the RDP client, I am getting a message logged on the server that session is using 2008-r2 compatible mode. My whole reason for setting this up was to test the improvements in 2012-r2, then make a decision about what to put into testing and then production.

The relevant log entries:

RemoteDesktopServices-RdpCoreTS - EventID 165
RemoteFX Encoding for RemoteFX Clients designed for Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 is enabled and a compatible session was created.

RemoteDesktopServices-RdpCoreTS - EventID 162
The client supports version 0x80105 of the RDP graphics protocol, client mode: 0, H264 enabled: 0

The logs above show a compatibility mode session is being made and the new H264 encoding is not being used.
I have spent some time going through all the RDS group policy settings, but nothing seems to have any effect.
How can I get the RDP client to connect using the RDP 8.1 features?

Note. I have tried the ServerTechnical Preview/Windows 10 Enterprise Preview, and The new features all worked straight away with no extra configuration, on the same hardware.

System Setup is:
Server 2012 r2 standard (this is running all the RDS roles on one server, its just for testing)
8.1 Enterprise Pooled VMs
8.1 Enterprise RDP Client

Hardware setup for the server is:
Intel i7-5820k
X99 chipset board
32GB DDR4
2x Geforce GT730 (I have also tried a Gefore GTX670 and a Radeon 6870)

Using the Broker Service to load balance between two terminal servers

$

The broker sits on TS1.  When you RDP to TS1 you get no certificate warning. When the broker redirects you to TS2 the user receives the certificate warning; The certificate is not from a trusted certifying authority.  Same thing happens if one tries to RDP to TS2 and they get redirected to TS1.

Is the only way around this to use a wildcard certificate and, if so, can I self-sign one?

I have currently set up and in production 2 x remote desktop servers, which is working fine on one session host, however we have set up load balancing, and this is the part that we are having issue with. all connections go to the one server and never the other, I cant find the problem at all.

would a Microsoft support call be able to support this kind of fix , as it may need some re-configuring and It is in a live environment?

what are your thoughts

thanks

RDS 2012 (An Authentication error has occurred 0x607) - WINDOWS 8 ONLY

Hi - please help. I've read many posts relating to this error, but none have fixed my issue.

We have an RDS 2012 setup.  2 Servers.  Both session hosts.  only 1 is the broker.  Cert from official CA.

My authentication is set to ONLY allow devices with Network Level Authority.  I don't want to remove this.

Windows XP and Windows 7 can connect both internally, and externally via the RDWeb address perfectly fine, but all Win8 machines get the error "An authentication error has occurred. Code 0x607.

Can anyone please advise why?

Many thanks

Printing issues in RDP

$

Hi everyone, so I had an issue where my HP 1606 printers logging into a 2008 R2 Terminal server didn't work with the Easy Print driver. Quick fix, or at least one would think it is! Creating a custom printer mapping with Laser Jet 4 drivers (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff519149%28v=ws.10%29.aspx) everything works great. Users login, printer is redirected using the LaserJet 4 driver. I thought the battle was over, I was wrong. 99% of the time when logging in the redirected 1606 gets set to the Laser Jet 4 print driver, sometimes it gets set to Easy Print.

I have the following options set in GP to ensure the easy printer driver is NOT selected first.

"Windows Components/Remote Desktop Services/Remote Desktop Session Host/Printer Redirection"

Redirect only the default client printer | Enabled

Specify RD Session Host server fallback printer driver behavior Enabled
When attempting to find a suitable driver  | Do nothing if one is not found.

Use Remote Desktop Easy Print printer driver first  | Disabled

Any ideas as to why this would happen? To correct the printer driver problem I disconnect the user by clicking the "X" in the RDP window, they reconnect them.  They are reconnected back to the same session/server. The printer now shows up with the LaserJet 4 driver instead of easy print.

Full Screen RDP Session Timeout

$

I work for a beer distributor and our warehouse team uses mobile computers on their forklifts throughout the day.

These mobile computers connect to an RDP session via our internal wireless network.  The RDP session is configured to open a specific webpage only and force full screen, preventing the users from going to any other websites, or from closing the browser and accessing anything else within the session.

Lately, we have been experiencing an issue where the webpage will timeout within the RDP session.  Because of how the session is setup, there is no way for the users to refresh the session.

I am curious what might cause something like this.

I suspect it is being caused by an HTTP request timeout setting in IIS, but is it possible to be related to the RDP session itself?
