RDP from Windows 7 to Server 2012 Terminal Server - Unable to save credentials

$

My office has 20 Windows 7 Pro desktops running and they all RDP to a Server 2008 using Term Serv and can save user credentials just fine.

We are moving to a new Server 2012 Term Server we'll be connecting to and we can connect to it as long as we don't have the RDP client set to save credentials.  If we have it set to save credentials, we get this error:

"The specified user name does not exist.  Verify the username and try logging in again.  If the problem continues, contact your system administrator or technical support."

The odd thing is that I do have a single Windows 8.1 desktop PC and that one works just fine with saved credentials.  I checked my Win7 PC's and the version of mstec.exe and they are nearly all different ranging from version 6.1 to 6.3 but they all have the same problem.  I checked the version of mstec.exe on the Win8.1 machine and it is version 6.3.

Anyone have this problem and a potential resolution for it?

Thanks.

Jayson

Can't change RD web access URL

I'm seeing the same problem that everyone else is where the URL is forced to the name of the server, not what you want for the public name.  I tried that powershell script that was recommended here (which jacked up my powershell display settings and cleared the session history, thanks jerks).  It changed the DeploymentRedirectorServer property, but that has no effect on the URL displayed or used for RD web access. I tried changing it in the registry where I could find it, but it was not effective. Setting up HA is not an option in this environment.

Does anyone know where I can make this change manually?

(Event ID: 36871) RDP to Windows 2012 Server

Hi.

I referred to similar questions.  But I couldn't find any consequences.

When I connect to a Server(Windows Server 2012), every time an Event happens in the client(Windows Server 2012.)

- - - - -

Application: Schannel

Event-ID   : 36871

Message   : A fatal error occurred while creating an SSL server credential. The internal error state is 10013.

- - - - -

But I CAN connect to the server by RDP in spite of the Error message.

Can I ignore the message or should I deal with this one seriously?

I'm afraid someday it might become a big problem.

Name Mis-Match for RDS 2012 R2 deployment with public wildcard cert BUT internal TLD customer.com not .internal or .local

Hello All, In the middle of a deployment of RDS 2012 R2. Internal TLD is int.domain.com , External FQDN is domain.com. Purchased a wildcard cert *.domain.com applied to all roles including gateway. FQDN that's published on the gateway role is apps.domain.com. my connection broker and web access roles are on the same server DB01.INT.DOMAIN.COM

when I try to connect (only tried from a windows 7 machine) I get a name mismatch :

THought that having the wild card and my domains match up would mean I was good. Where am I going wrong?

Thanks for your help!

Access to RDS through GW very slow

Hi,<o:p></o:p>

I am setting up 6 servers for RDS access:<o:p></o:p>

2 RD Gateways<o:p></o:p>

2 RD Brokers + RD Web<o:p></o:p>

2 Session Hosts<o:p></o:p>

I am using a valid wildcard certificate that was issued a by a third party CA. All servers are in the same domain.<o:p></o:p>

I am able to setup al RD roles in a single box and that works great, but once I start splitting the roles on multiple servers, things just get to slow to bear.<o:p></o:p>

I am currently trying to just setup 1 of each and then worry about the load balancing later, but even with that things are very slow. So I am configuring an RDP File with all the settings for the session host server name and the gateway name.<o:p></o:p>

the box for bypass for local addresses is unchecked, due to the fact that we need to go through the gateway to make sure it's fully functional and also this is very internal access only for now while being setup, but of course once it's all setup and trusted to be fully functional, then we'll set it up for external access.<o:p></o:p>

I even tried using self-signed certs thinking that it might be something wrong with the public cert that I have, but the result was the same.<o:p></o:p>

Any ideas?<o:p></o:p>

Thanks<o:p></o:p>

Screensaver in 2008 Enterprise terminal server not starting

$

I am seeing an issue that is about ready to drive me nuts.  I have a 2008 Enterprise terminal server and a 2003 Standard terminal server.  I am trying to configure a screen saver at 15 seconds that won't lock the session out.  I have the GPO set up so that it only affects the users.  For some reason, the GPO applies but does not work on the 2008 server.  Funny thing is, is that it works great on the 2003 server.  I've dumped my .scr file in the C:\Windows\System32 folder on each server and have pointed the screen saver executable to the file.  I don't want the screen saver password protected so I disable that setting.  I set my timeout at 15 seconds and then log in with the account.  It does not work.  The screen saver shows it's set at the one that I want to use but it won't execute it.  The thing that is driving me nuts is that the thing works when I enable the password protected set up. What in server 2008 makes this happen and is there a way to get it to apply without having the screen saver password protected?  Like I said, the GPO works great on our 2003 server, does exactly what it's supposed to, just on the 2008 Enterprise that it doesn't.  Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

File getting locked in RDC when saving it to redirected drive (from remoteapp).

Hello,

when exporting excel file from our RemoteApp to my local C disk (\\tslcient\c) the file is getting locked and can not be used until I close the RemoteApp. If for example I try to delete file before closing RemoteApp, I get the error that file is being used by Remote Desktop Client.

If during export I choose to save the file on remoteApp server, or on mapped network drive, it is not getting locked and can be used right away.

Is there a way to save it to my redirected C drive and be able to use it without closing remoteApp ?

Windows 8.1 Pro cannot log into RemoteApp running on Windows Server 2012 R2

I have setup a vm running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and have enabled multiple RemoteApps.  Everything is setup correctly and I can use RD Web Access to access the portal and connect to the remoteapps from any computer except my own.  I am running Windows 8.1 Pro and when I log into the RD Web Access portal, click on one of the apps,  it looks like it's loading the session, but gets stuck on Preparing Windows.  Everything else up to that point looks like it loads correctly, (i.e. - Applying Group Policy Settings, applying desktop, etc...).  When I log into my Windows 7 dev machine, I can access and run everything just fine.  So there must be something between the Windows 8 and 2012 that isn't working quite right.

I have tried logging into the portal as myself and test users...same result.

any ideas?

Force 2008 R2 to not refresh printer redirect number :: Printing and Terminal Services

$

Hi,

I have a client who we host their POS software on a 2008 R2.

The software print configuration requires I set a default printer manually.

The problem is that when 2008 R2 pulls the print in say a week from the config the printer has a new redirect number and the software must be reconfigured.

Is there a way I can force the behaviour of 2008 R2 redirected printing to keep a redirect number once it has been redirected.

...

Alternatively:

I have resolved similar issues(with label printing read errors in terminal services) by turning off easy print and installed the driver on the 2008 r2 this then prints to the client sessions identical driver.

Can anyone share any knowledge/experience on this?

Thanks in advance,

Brett

RDS 2012 R2 Single Sign On

Hello,

I have combed through here and other places to try to sort this out, but I think I need a little help.

Our environment is as follows (everything W2k12 R2):

We have 3 RDS Hosts servers and 2 Gateway servers.

The DNS round robin name is rdfarm.ourdomain.com

The Cert is a wildcard cert *.ourdomain.com

The url is apps.ourdomain.com

I have added the thumbprint for all certs to the GPO and that got us almost all the way. Now I am not getting prompted for sign on when on a domain machine and go to apps.ourdomain.com

However, when I click on a published app, it first warns me of "A website is trying to launch a remoteapp program. Make sure that you trust the publisher before you connect to run this program". On this window it shows:

Publisher: *.ourdomain.com

Remote Computer: rdfarm.ourdomain.com

Gateway server: apps.ourdomain.com

When I click connect it prompts me for credentials for rdfarm.ourdomain.com (without passing the domain's name to the credential dialogue).

RDS licensing server in DMZ

$

* I originally posted this in DS forum. Sorry for the double posts but I mistakenly thought licensing belongs to DS forum*

I plan to place a licensing server in DMZ so I don't have to open ports between each single TS server in DMZ and internal core network. In DMZ there is only one RODC. I installed the licensing server in internal network and moved it to DMZ after verifying that everything worked fine. The problem now is that the licensing server in DMZ seems to still want to talk to a writable DC even initial setup has been done (changing membership of "Terminal Server License Servers", adding TS-Enterprise-License-Server object etc.)

If right click and "Review Configuration", the second check failed with "The system cannot determine if the license server is registered as service connection point(SCP) in Active Directory Domain Services(AD DS) because the AD DS cannot be contacted".

Question #1: Does licensing server needs to contact a writable DC after inital setup has been done?

Question #2: This licensing server has connectivity only to RODC, can I hardcode RODC for licensing role, how?

Question #3: If this can't be done and I need to open ports, can I configure fixed ports for licensing role?

RADWebAccess Event 5, server doesn't exist

I have a Sharepoint test environment that I am trying to publish RemoteApps to using the TSWebPart. I had it working previously and am now coming back to the project. The test server i was using to host the apps is gone, but i'm getting Error 5 & 10009 that RADWebAccess can't communicate with it. Which is true, since it doesn't exist anymore. I can't publish new apps to the test site and i am wondering if this is why, since i can't find this server existing any any of the Remote Services settings.

Here are the errors;

DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer XXX.XXX.local using any of the configured protocols.

No programs were detected on XXX.XXX.local. Ensure that the server is an RD Session Host server and that it is online.

Any help would be appreciated.

Configure remoteapp event logging

Hey folks,

I have a Server 2012 RDS environment, using multiple RDS Hosts, with a RD Connection Broker. I want (need) to figure out how many users I get logged in monthly, and how many of them use our RemoteApp for Excel, Word, Access, etc (read: SPLA). I've been scouring through post after post, trying to find something that will help me figure out what the user launches, to no avail. I started looking through my event viewer to see what I can find there, and I found something interesting, but very confusing. On the Connection Broker, I found an event, id 1040, with the following:

Remote application (Excel 2013) is launched using  stored credentials on RemoteApp and Desktop connection (mycb.domain.com).

This seems to be what I'm looking for. It also has the user who launched. However, I have a SINGLE entry in my event viewer for this, and it was 6 months ago. The log I was looking at was Microsoft-Windows-RemoteApp and Desktop Connections/Operational. There are a total of 4 entries in this log, that's it. I checked the properties of the log, and it is set to "Enable logging". I can't figure out how to make this log these, or if I should be looking elsewhere. I was then intending to track these events using SCOM 2012 collection rule, so I can report and/or monitor if need be.

How do I configure this event log to show me these events so I can track them, OR, where else could I look for this information so I can track my users access of our Microsoft RemoteApps, OR, how else can I get the reporting I need?

Thanks much in advance!

Improve Remote App Performance (2012)

$

We have 100 users that connected to a 2012 RDS environment (2 Remote App session hosts).

Both session hosts have

  • Server 2012
  • Dynamic disks - disk size doesn't grow often most of their files are saved to our LAN
  • Dynamic RAM - with 75% buffer up to 128GB for each host
  • In RDS the collection is set to automatically adjust based on connection speed

The Remote Apps function fine, but the users are going from i7, sdd, 8gb ram desktops to using Remote Apps. So there are some growing pains. Is there anything I can do to improve Remote App performance?

Thank you in advance,

Disconnected session does not reconnect when user moves to a diffrent computer

User initiates a remote desktop connection from Laptop to server 1.

User disconnects from active session

User attempts reconect now from Desktop to server 1 however user is presented with a new active session on server 2.

Is there a way to allow user to reconnect to a disconnected session from a different computer?

The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship

We have two servers which users connect to with RDSH accounts.  One of the servers is giving the error message 'The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship'. I also receive the error when I try to connect direct through RDp as admin, so no one can connect.

I can connect through the console. I have removed the sever from the domain and removed the computer account from AD. I have joined the server back to the domain and moved the computer account back to the correct OU.

I have checked the computer account Attribute Editor, the DNS hostname and Service principal is correct although I'm assuming this is void as I removed the computer account.

I have checked DNS on th DC and there is no duplicates, only one IP to one hostname.

The server is Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise, it is a virtual server sitting on a hyper-V host. We are considering cloning the working RDSH server and scraping this one.

The same error still shows, any help would be much appreciated.
