Audio Quality Server Side Policy Takes Precdence?

Hello there I was reading the following article:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/36a6275f-a56f-4a01-a2d9-df44a777a682/streaming-audio-performance?forum=winserverTS

Where Dollar Wang provided an answer on Audio Quality settings. In his answer he stated that if you are going to set the audio quality it must be set on the server and client sides in order to work. What I am trying to understand what happens if we just set this on the server side only, or client side only what would be the expected outcomes?

We are hoping to be able to set policies on the server side and essentially force everyone to Medium quality without having to change RDP files; however I don't know if this will work or not.

Thanks for the answers and hope to hear from a few of you!

unprintable special character in RDP file

We're having strange issue. We use RDP files generated in RDP client, we then sign those using rdpsign.exe.

Recently after upgrading our infrastructure from W8/2012 to W8.1/2012R2 we noticed that every RDP file generated in RDC 8.1 client contains a special character on first position that is not visible in normal text editor and is only visible in hex editor. This character wasn't there in W8/2012. When I create the RDP file manually (typing (copy/pasting) all the options in a text file), it doesn't contain any special character, but when I later sign that file file rdpsign, it adds that character again.

How do we get rid of it? It's preventing our provisioning system from substituting username.

"Connect to a remote PC" error: The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login"

I have a Server 2012 level domain with a Server 2012 RDS server running all the roles on one machine with a default collection.  Everything works just fine.  As a part of the RDWeb App page you have the "Connect to a remote PC" link at the top.  This works beautifully for administrators.  However, most all domain users are by default standard users and this link fails for them with the above error.  I've added/enabled all the recommended GPOs to allow connection through Remote Desktop that I've been able to find through searches but still this problem persists.  If I change the user to be a local administrator on their workstation (not desirable) it works just fine.  What am I missing or failing to consider?

I tried adding the group \Domain Users to the Remote Desktop Users security group and that didn't work either so I removed it as they don't need access to the DC.  I see many other discussions around this error but I haven't found the answer I need.

Windows Thin PC - RDP 8

Is RDP 8.0 Client supported on Windows Thin PC? It doesn't show up under Windows Update and if I try to download the Windows 7 version of the RDP 8.0 Client it says that update is not applicable.  RDP 8.0 client is very crucial for a Thin Client...thanks!

Restrict Access to Specific RemoteApps Externally

Hello Everyone,

In a Server 2012 environment with RD Gateway and RD Web Access, how can I restrict access to specific published apps externally but still permit access internally?  Using the ACL on the published app doesn't work because then the app is not available internally.  The only options I see in RD Gateway are for access to "Network Resources" (computers).  So this doesn't work either.  Since we can't deploy apps using a MSI anymore, the web feed is the only option.  This means I can't use the option to not display the app in RD Web Access or it won't be distributed for internal use.  Where is the filter that says User A can run RemoteApp A internally using the shortcut in the Start Menu but not externally using RD Web Access but still allow them to run RemoteApp B both internally and externally?

Thanks,

Scott

Windows 2012 R2 RDCB Load Balancing with NLB

Hi,

I am trying to figure out how to configure Windows 2012 R2 RDCB for HA. I know that the new RDCB role is mandatory in 2012 and there is a native HA but the setup is for a small customer with only 25 clients and the native way of doing HA means another host and SQL license. This adds complexity and another point of failure. I was hoping that I can use NLB to load balance the RDCB role. My problem is that right now I have two VMs running RDSH and RDWA. One of the VMs is also running the RDCB role. If the VM with the RDCB is down users are unable to access the second RDSH. Here’s the setup:

Two physical host running ESXi 5.1.

VM1 on ESXi1  - RDCB, RDSH, RDWA

VM2 on ESXi2 - RDSH, RDWA

I found many posts about load balancing using NLB for all of the roles but not the Connection Broker.

ME AND MY FRIEND WANT TO BE ABLE TO ACCESS EACH OTHER COMPUTER'S HARD DRIVE FILES REMOTELY AT ANY TIME WITHOUT HAVING TO CONNECT EVERY TIME. WE ARE IN THE DIFFERENT CITIES, AND OUR COMPUTERS ARE ON-LINE THE WHOLE TIME, BUT, WE HAVE DYNAMIC IP ADDRESSES. BUT WE DO NOT WANT A REMOTE DESKTOP, SO THAT I FOR EXAMPLE GO TO HIS COMPUTER AND WORK THERE. WE JUST WANT TO SHARE HARD DRIVE ON SUCH WAY THAT I AM ABLE TO USE HIS HARD DRIVE LIKE IT IS IN MY OWN COMPUTER. I HAVE WINDOWS SERVER 2008, AND HE HAVE WINDOWS 8 OPERATING SYSTEMS. IS IT POSSIBLE TO ACHIVE COMPLETE AND MUTUAL HARD DISK SHARING? AND HOW, IF IT IS? THANX. :P

common Desktop for multiple RDP users

Windows Server 2008 R2

I have multiple consultants doing RDP to a server. Problem with this is each of their AD accounts gets a different, separate login profile on the server. They wish to have a common profile so that any changes done by one will be seen by other consultants as well as having a common Desktop where they keep notes and stuffs.

Is it possible to have multiple RDP users login to the same profile in the server?

Connection Broker lost connection to network and domain

Hi,<o:p></o:p>

I have managed to configure and install RDS Windows 2008 R2 Farm with 3 Remote session hosts and one connection broker .One of the session host servers is also the connection broker. All connected to my domain and so on.<o:p></o:p>

It seems to work fine until all of a sudden, with no alerting, the server become inaccessible and would not accept any connections. When I log on to the server using KVM (Physical access with monitor and keyboard) , it seems that the serer function extremely slow ! <o:p></o:p>

Moreover, when I try to ping another server in the same domain a get "destination unreachable".
When I look at the services status, I notice that remote desktop management service is down. When I try to start the service I get the error: "Windows could not start the RemoteApp and desktop connection management service on local computer.<o:p></o:p>

Error 0x800706fd: the trusted relationship between the workstation and the domain failed."<o:p></o:p>

Only after brutal shutdown of the whole server it becomes stable again and accepts connection and function properly untill next time.

I have already tried to replace the cable connected to the switch ,the port and the network card but no luck. ( all other servers are onnected to the same switch so I assume there is no problem with the switch )

The server can function properly for 2 days and suddenly ( apparently something happens )
and then it became slow and lose the connection to the domain and/or network.<o:p></o:p>

Please advise ASAP this is my connection broker server of my RDS Farm.<o:p></o:p>

Thanks in advance.

Server 2012 RDS - User Profile Disks - Errors during Logoff

$

I have set up a test Server 2012 RDS collection (Single Server for now) and implemented User Profile disks.

I have two problems.

First: My generic test user can connect and does successfully use the user profile disk as expected. However, atlogoff, the system event log contains these errors:

The error (NTFS 137) is: The default transaction resource manager on volume C:\Users\ts3.test encountered a non-retryable error and could not start.  The data contains the error code.

The warning (NTFS 50) that concerns me is:

It appears that the user profile disk is being "disabled" or "disconnected" before the profile data is completely written at logoff. What can I do to troubleshoot this?

Second:

Update: A post from Mike Connor on the following page: -LINK- solved the problem described below.

My administrative user always logs on now with a temporary profile. At the beginning, the UPD was working and mounting. That stopped working. In attempting to troubleshoot, I logged the admin user off and deleted the UPD disk file from the share. I remember it working again after generating a new UPD disk file in the share. Soon, it quit working again. I deleted the UPD disk file again from the share and ever since, it has never regenerated a new UPD andalways logs on with a temporary profile.

RDP webapp connecting to incorrect server

Hi All,

I have configured Remote Desktop Services on our branch office. Both main office and branch office has RDP ports forwarded. On branch office, I have forwarded RDP port to the remote desktop server and in main office it's forwarded to a different server.

For some users when they are accessing from outside using https://<public_ip_Branchoffice>/RDWeb and after login when they try to open awebapp it is trying to open that app using the main office server (which I have forwarded RDP port using the main office firewall). But for some users it does work fine (they are directly connected to the RDS server in the branch office).

Is there a way that I can stop Remote WebApps trying to connect to the main office firewall and only connect to the branch office firewall so it will be forwarded to correct server?

And what is the reason for some users to work not to work for others?

Thanks.

RDS Profiles

Hi

I have an interesting problem which i can't fix or workout, I'm trying to simply enable Remote Desktop Services Profiles.

Within AD I find the user, under properties I select 'Remote Desktop Services Profile' and enter the the profiles file share. (all permissions on this share are correct as its used for our roaming profiles). I log onto a Windows Server 2003 box a RDS profile is loaded as expected However if i log onto any higher OS, IE Server 2008/2012 even Windows 7, no RDS profile is loaded or created on the share.

Am i missing something???

Limite RemoteApp to one instance per user

$

Hello everyone,

A customer asked us to make an (unfinished) application available to them. Since this application is unfinished we want to make sure that only one person at a time is using it and that under no circumstances the customer can copy the application.

RemoteApp seems perfect for this, however standard it allows users to open the same application as much as they like with the same credentials.

Is there a way to limit the RemoteApp applications to one per user session?

Migrate from one RDS implementation to another

Hi,

Our current RDS implementation is on Windows Server 2012.
We built whole new RDS implementation on Windows Server 2012 R2.

We will need to migrate current collections to new RDS 2012 R2 implementation. Also we will need to add current RDVH 2012 servers to new RDS 2012 R2 implementation.

Can this be done, or we need to recreate everything on new RDS 2012 R2 implementation?
Is there some guides avaiable for this scenario?

Hello,

I Have 2 servers ( SRV1 and SRV2 ) both running Server 2012 R2 and are included in a single collection "Apps".

I wanted to know if it is possible to tell RDS that a specific application should be available from a specific server only ?

For example, to publish notepad and calc, but calc should be available only from SRV1.

Thank you

regards,

Alex

RDS 2008R2 : RemoteApp Program - Remote Desktop

$

Hello,

I'm able to use all of my RemoteApp programs when I'm connected through the RDS site on my internal network.

When I connect externally, all published applications work fine that I installed on the server.  On the RD Session Host server tab on the Gateway I have 'Show a remote desktop connection to this RD Session Host server in RD Web Access' checked.  I also have it checked on the Web Access servers.  The Remote Desktop (Published Desktop) of the Web Access servers works fine internally, but I error out when accessing it remotely.

When I click the icon to launch (while connected remotely) I see the internal farm name and the external name of the gateway is not present.  I'll press connect and get an error: Remote Desktop can't find the computer "my farm name" This might mean that "my farm name" does not belong to the specific network.  Verify the computer name and domain that you are registering to connect to.

How do I get this remote app to use my SSL connection and RD Gateway and not try to resolve the name locally on my externally connected machine?

I found this post, it solved the problem of using the Remote Access tab on my RDweb site, but I'm trying to fix the RemoteApp.

Thanks
