RDS trought RDWebAccess can't connect du to RDGatewayServer being temporarily unavailable

Hello,

I've set for my client a big RDS Farm, on two distincts locations. All of the users are using Wyses to connect to the farm. On the internal network everything is fine, but when trying to connect from outside, after login in, I get this message

"Your Computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway server is temporarily unavailable."

In the logs, I get those errors :

  • Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RDPClient/Operational : EventID 1033 :"CAAClientAdapter, :: 'm_spHelper->ReadCreds failed' in CAAClientAdapter::CreateTunnel at 380 err=[0xffffffff],"
  • Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RDPClient/Operational : EventID 1033 : "CClientProxyTransport, :: 'm_ClientAdapter->CreateTunnel failed' in CProxyRawTrans::CreateProxyConnection at 2116 err=[0x800759d9], "
  • Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RDPClient/Operational : EventID 1033 : "CClientProxyTransport, :: 'Gateway connection time out is 90' in CClientHTTPProxyTransport::Connect at 1099 err=[0x800759d9], "
  • Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RDPClient/Operational : EventID 1033 : "CClientProxyTransport, :: 'CreateConnection failed' in CClientHTTPProxyTransport::Connect at 1108 err=[0x800759d9], "
  • Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RDPClient/Operational : EventID 1033 : "CClientProxyTransport, :: 'Gateway Error' in CClientProxyTransport::SetErrorStatus at 2818 err=[0x800759d9],"
  • Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RDPClient/Operational : EventID 1033 : ":CClientProxyTransport, :: 'Gateway Error' in CClientProxyTransport::SetErrorStatus at 2818 err=[0x800706ba], "

The farm consists of 2 RDBroker in HA (with 2 SQL Servers AlwaysOn for the database), 2 RDGateway (HA), 2 RDWebAccess (HA), 1 RDlicence Server, an 10+ RDSH. A wildcard Certificate is set on the external name for all roles.

  • rds.external.com : RR DNS name for the RD Brokers
  • rdsweb.external.com : RR DNS name for the RDWebAccess

When connecting to the RDWebAccess FQDN (rdsweb.external.com) from external network, i can connect to the website, use my credential to view the collection of session I can connect to. But when I use one of them, I get this error message. If I download the rdp file, I can see that all the correct adress are in use:

full address:s:rds.external.com
gatewayhostname:s:rdsweb.external.com
workspace id:s:rds.external.com
use redirection server name:i:1
loadbalanceinfo:s:tsv://MS Terminal Services Plugin.1.CollectionName
use multimon:i:1
alternate full address:s:rds.external.com

As we use KEMP GeoLoadbalancing, I have in the public DNS a CNAME for rdsweb.extrernal.com, redirecting to rdsweb.geo.external.com, and the NS for this zone are set to the public IP of the distant site, with our internal DNS resolving all this to the correct farm member, for geo loadbalancing purpose.

Also the RAP and CAP policies are set in the 2 RD WebGateway.

Any hints on what to check or do to allow connection the farm from outise their network ?

Regards

Windows Server 2019 RDS Installation Failed

When I try to install RDS through the server manager, and choose either quick OR standard installation, I complete the steps until the install attempts.

When it begins the install, it fails saying the RDS broker services are to blame.

How do I fix this issue?

RDS CALs on Azure

I work for a software and services company.  We are looking at setting up a Windows Remote Desktop Services system on Azure (or AWS, we haven't 100% decided yet) that will be accessed by some of our customers. I know that we will need RDS CALs for this (as Azure does not provide any), but it is much cheaper for us to use RDS Device CALs for our customers than it is for us to use RDS User CALs. The software we will be providing to our customers (which happens to be our own internally developed software) is used in an environment where the computers (and software) are used by multiple people throughout the day. For example, there could be a single computer at the customer's site that will need access to the software through RDS, but there could be 10 actual people using that computer at different times of the day. In this example, I was hoping we could purchase 1 RDS Device CAL as opposed to 10 RDS User CALs.

In digging through the Microsoft Product Use Terms and Licensing information, I see that if we purchase RDS CALs with Software Assurance, we gain the License Mobility benefit, which allows us to deploy the licenses on a server from an Authorized Mobility Partner (i.e., Azure in this case).  I see, however, that this documentation seems to only call out RDS*User* CALs, but do not see anything about RDS*Device* CALs.  My question: Do the RDS Device CALs fall under the same rules as the RDS User CALs, or can RDS Device CALs not be used in this way?

There are no available computers in the pool. Try connecting again or contact your network administrator. 2016 Terminal Server

Dear Friends,

I have a Terminal Server as below configuration

RDCB - with connection broker, web access and licensing server role

RDS1 - Host Server

RDS2 - Host Server

RDS3 - Host Server

RDS4 - Host Server

I have created 3 Collection:

RDFarm - hosted RDS1 and RDS2

CDFarm - hosted on RDS3

ISFarm - Hosted on RDS4

RDFarm and CDFarm are Remote Desktop servers, whereas ISFarm has a published app i.e. Google chrome.  Whenever I try to connect to the ISFarm via connection broker https://rdcb/rdweb I am getting a messege "There are no available computers in the pool. Try connecting again or contact your network administrator."

I have already tried the followings:

- https://www.360ict.nl/blog/2012r2-connection-broker-error-24584-adding-collections/ this warning was fixed.

- RDFArm and CDFarms are working fine with no issues.

- Reinstalled the roles.

- created a signed certificate for the ISfarm

with no success.

Please help.

Add Virtualization Host from untrusted domain for VDI

Hi,

I have a scenario where I have multiple Hyper-V hosts in domainA and RDS infrastructure in domainB.  I would like to be able to add the Hyper-V host form domainA to the RDS in domainB as a Virtualization Host.

I add the Hyper-V host to the servers group in server manager on the connection broker using a logon in DomainA.

I can successfully add but only when there is a trust (forest or selective authentication) but do I need the trust once the host has been added to RDS?

Kind regards

Migrate Server 2008 R2 Connection Broker RDS farm settings to Server 2016

$

Hi All,

I have a Server 2008 R2 server that is a RDS Licensing Server and Connection Broker to 5x 2008 R2 RDS Session Hosts.

I understand the key to migrating is move the Connection Broker role to Server 2016 first, then add the Server 2016 Session Hosts to the farm

However I cannot use High Availability cluster to add a Server 2016 Connection Broker as my 2008 R2 server is Standard Edition, which does not support Failover Clustering.

Can I extract the Connection Broker settings (farm name etc.) and import them into a new replacement Connection Broker running on Server 2016 so I have the same farm name?

Or is the only way, to create a new RDS farm, with a new name, on Server 2016 running the Connection Broker role and then move the 2008 R2 Session Hosts to this broker? But then off course I'll have to update all my thin clients with the new name.

Thanks in advance.

RDS 2012 R2 problem with UDP Profile

Hello,

recently we want to move from redirect folders on our RDS enviroment to UPD.

We created new Collection, new RDSH. Everything works fine except that every time system create new folder for the user ex.

user.001

user.002

What's more we have in GPO rule to delete user folder on the server during logout. It wont happened.

I've searched Event log and every time i see errors like:

1533 - Windows cannot delete the profile directory C: \ Users \ Administrator.000.The cause of the error may be that the files in this directory are being used by another program.

20491 - Remote Desktop Services cannot disconnect the user disk for a user account with SID S-1-5-21-4205589905-739050087-1798985181-500.Error code: 0x91.38

I've found that in 2016 was a hotfix but we have updated system up 11.2019 year and problem still exists

What can we do?

Windows Server + RDP + Office License clarity

Dear Community, can some one clarify/advise me on the below scenario please ?

I am planning to go for Windows Server + RDP CALS + Office 365 Subscription with 10 RDP devices. Around 10 Users will do remote session using rdp devices and use word or excel.

1. As Windows Server 2019 is latest, I will go with that. Now for 10 RDP users/devices, I will go for 10 RDP CALS. So, am I still need to buy Windows Server 2019 User/Server CALS separately ?

2. 'Office 365 Home' subscription webpage says 'Share with your entire family – for up to 6 people' In that case is it enough if I buy two subscriptions for 10 users?

Thanks is advance.

Windows 2019 RDS Licensing

I am looking at deploying around 8 Terminal  server across our offices. All offices are in the same domain and interconnected. At the central site I am looking at deploying the licensing server. Am I right in thinking that I can use 1 central licensing server to allot the licenses?

Next am I also right in thinking that RDS user cals are allotted to each specific user and cannot be reallocated to another user (So not concurrent users but specific named users) and the only way to release the license would be to remove them from the AD.

We would also be looking to run MS office on each Terminal server, How does the licensing work for this, so for example if I have an office with 5 TS users do I need to buy 5 Open licenses for office and 5 RDS user cals.  (we do not use Office 365) Or can I buy an open license for 40 copies of office and 40 RDS users?

Logon rds application vs. Logon Windows Server GUI

$

Hi,

I installed rds on a Windows Server 2016 and a Remote Desktop Application (exe)

User are in remote desktop user group.

The user is allowed to start an rds application through a rdp file from a client  computer.

The User is not allowed to  Logon to the desktop of the server.

I need a script/ mechanism which check's weather (1) the User logon via starting  my application or (2) logon on Windows desktop.
In Case the user starts to logon the desktop (2) if have to refuse/stop/hinder the logon

(i see, that in case the user logon starting my application(1), rdshell.exe ist running)
Perhaps there are other, easier indicators for deciding where the Logon comes from.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advanced

Windows 2016 and 2008 r2 RDS issue

$

I have the following:

RDS Gateway = Windows 2016

TS server = Windows 2008 R2

TS Server2 = Windows 2016

I get into the RD webpage without issue, there lies 2 RDP published apps pointing to 2 different servers.

When the icons are launched and authentication box appears, domain credentials are put in, and the error stated below comes up.

End users can access the gateway without issue, when they select the TS Server RDP icons they get the following error:

RemoteApp Disconnected - Your computer can't connect to the Remote Desktop Gateway server. Contact your network administrator for assistance.

The TS connection is set to maximum, everything else is set correctly to. I have read all the articles I can find and it has not resolved the issue, is there something I am missing?

RdWeb Usage reports

I want to generate usage reports for RdWeb month on month to know how many users have logged in each day. I'm doing it manually by exporting the terminal gateway event logs as csv, trim, sort out date format, etc.. which is a tedious job as I have to do it for 14 environments. Looking for automation ideas to avoid manual work and set up a dashboard which will display as on date usage and option to download the data.

Can someone throw some light as how a dashboard can be created directly by reading the event logs

Setting up Remote Desktop Services for my small business

$

Hi Im cracking my head here to implement a remote desktop services in my small business for employees to open up session based desktop connections. On premises of course, all local connections. And i keep seeing this coming up on google suggestions saying that i can buy "Windows Server Remote Desktop Services CAL". Im just looking to operate my business locally without all that fancy features like desktopApp or licensing. I just need to create local users, have Windows load a remote desktop environment for that user to connect to, and voila my employee can use both client computer and host computer on their monitor(s).

Is there a possibility for this without buying any extra licensing feature? I already have a legal copy of Windows Server 2019, i seriously don't think i need to purchase another $500 odd for this bull.

And if this is the case, I also have Windows Server 2016 and does Server 2016 need to purchase this licensing thing?

Cheers
