RDP Connection limit

Hello All, I am new to windows server 2012 r2 I have a task to migrate win2012 r2 server to another cloud so I have few question

1) Is there any RDP concurrent session limit in win2012 r2

2) Do I have to must create a domain controller as I have only 5 user

3) currently I installed windows2012 r2 on a machine created user and created group for remote desktop and all 5 user made member of this group and they are accessing it remotely via rdp is this enough or do I need to do something else please advise

4) I have user CALs on old machine for 5 users can I transfer this to new machine if yes then how

Trying to install remote desktop virtualization services ... keeps failing for "unknown reason"

this is a non-production, home server. 

Running a few windows 10 vms, wanted to be able to use a GPU with the vm, vm manager says I need to install "RD virtualization services" first.

I try to install the service, and it reverts at about 80% progress, after a restart.

This is a single win 2012 r2 server, fresh install. it is a stand alone server, and is also running as a DC -- which I'm starting to guess may be the issue.

Set Up Remote desktop Services

Hello, 

I have three servers.

Server-1-AD

Server-2-RDP

Server-3-RDP

I have to set up Remote desktop services role to provide office licenses to users connecting on the Server-2-RDP and Server-3-RDP servers.

Server-1-AD will be the licensing server.

Can you give me details about the following services

RD CONNECTION BROKER
RD SESSION HOST
RD WEB ACCESS

Which servers i have to install these?

My setup is simple

My active directory will be a terminal server to distribute license to the RDP servers.

Do i have to install office on the AD servers and then access it from RDP servers or i have to install office on both RDP servers?


Please help me to implement the scenario

Including which roles should be installed on which server.

I have tried to deploy RDS but i can only have web access and i cannot get start menu item automatically.

How do i do it?

Maximum supported simultaneous connections to RD Gateway Server 2016

I have searched for the information for a length of time but cannot locate any details on the official MS "Maximum Supported Simultaneous Connections" that is an option in RD Gateway for Server 2016.

We have encountered issues with performance in the past that we believe may be related to this limit being reached and breached, however there appears to be very little documentation in respect of the above.

We have 3 collections that are served by this single RD Gateway, with between 250-270 users attaching to these collections each day.

We are in the early stages of planning the migration to Azure for the RDS environment, however with the lack of availability of RDMI, we need to plan for building our RDS environment from the ground up and need confirmation ahead of commencement to ensure that we don't need to rip it all out and start again.

Appreciate some official confirmation of the "supported" number of connections.

cant login with UPN to windows 2012 RDS server it's adding space + backslash at the begining of UPN

hello guys,

i'm having this problem only when trying to log into windows 2012 RDS servers(2003,2008 are fine) were space and backslash is added to the front of the UPN.

For example:

I save my UPN david@mydomain.com in my remote desktop connection settings. Then when i try to remote into my RDS windows 2012 servers this what is added in the username field " \david@mydomain.com" without the double quotes and therefore i get the error message "The user name or password is incorrect. Try again.". When i remove the space and backslash i can remote in just fine. I have looked everywhere and no one has been able to bring up solution. Please help!

W2016 RDSH and Mobile Media Player

Users are unable to access Smartphone as USB storage. ( Huawei mobile). It Works with W2008 R2 RDSH.

On W2008 R2 RDSH, a network drive shows up (mostly empty) and a "Mobile Media Player" Device where all the stuff is accessible.

On W2016 RDSH, only the network (mostly empty) drive.

Explorer.exe not responding / SLOW printing

Hi,

I am currently running a Terminal Server on Windows 2012 R2 with all the latest updates installed.

We have a print server also running on a different 2012R2 machine.

Printing is really slow.. If I open printer properties and click Print Test page it takes up to 30 seconds until the dialog box "A test page has been sent to your printer" shows up.

I also notice while having Resource monitor running during these tests that explorer.exe goes to "not responding" and then goes back to running once the dialog box pops up.

I have uninstalled the anti-virus (trend) as well, but no difference.

I ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

and sfc /scannow

I'm running out of ideas on what to try next..

How to allow Local resources PORTS to RemoteAPP

Hello I need help with allow local ports to the remote computer.

This is the Windows 10 workstation trying to launch the Remote APP on Session Host server on Windows server 2012 R2.

On Terminal server. for Collection properties there is no option for

This is while launching the RemoteApp on Internet explorer on Windows10 machine. There is no option to enable ports her.

I would appreciate for you helping me in this issue I really need this to be working.

Server 2016, Win 10, RDS SSO

Hi,
can someone guide me through tshoot of the RDS? I am trying to setup SSO (in simple topology, one domain, one RDS server) for RDWeb. I can setup SSO for the page itself, so I see published apps without need to enter credentials ut when I try to run any of the apps I get windows prompt for credentials. When I enter correct credentials everything works fine.

I had setup delegation on client for TERMSRV/* for default credentials (NTLM and Kerberos). I have proper certificate on server, thumbprint onserted into client, so I do not get any other prompts, just this one. I have used this guide as a base:

I also tried to disable entering credentials every time client wants to connect on host server (which is not in the guide) without any effect. I dont see any issues in logs.

RDP/RDS Printing Intermittent Connection For All Users (after RDS reconnect)

Hi,

I have a Windows Server 2016 Datacenter version on AWS, my client's production Server is impaired. Since a few days ago the RDS printing stopped working reliably. It often works and some other times doesn't work. The only time I know for a fact works is when I reboot the server. It takes either one or few times to disconnect/reconnect from RDS session that it the RDS printing stops working.

I did everything I can on a local machine and network. They all work fine 100% of the time. I restarted Win Server 2016 Spooler and it still doesn't work. One other condition the RDS printing worked is when I install the printer driver on local machine newly but it stops working after one or few RDS session disconnects and reconnects.

It is so frustrating, I bought a brand new hp laserjet pro-MFP m447fdw printer it didn't help. I bought a new Cisco SMB router, it didn't help. Apparently, it has something to do with Windows Server 2016.

Add a shortcut or a bat file as a RD-RemoteApp (webapp)

Hi Technet crew,

I work at a law firm who use a file management system called Wordox

It is installed on a terminal remote server, where we have now published several apps on a WebApp login page,

Worldox does not work at the shortcut users require is called run in mirrored mode. e.g. worldox.exe /m=off

I have attempted adding the remote app via Powershell, (see below) however it does not like me using the exe with m=off at the end,

New-RDRemoteApp -Alias "Worldox" -CollectionName Collection -DisplayName "Apps" -FilePath "C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop\worldoxr.lnk" -FolderName "Worldox" -IconPath "\\ypolwd\data\WORLDOX\worldox\Worldox.EXE /m=off"

I have created a bat file, which will run the exe file with m=off, however I am also unable to set a bat file as a deployable app.

Is there anyway to complete this task? any advise could help me out,

new user login cannot create a User Profile Disk - Server 2012 RDS

This issue started happening 2 days ago. Environment has been running stable for 2 years. When a new user logs in a UPD is not created.  Existing users log in just fine and have UPD.  What could be stopping the creation of the UPD?

正規ライセンスをもって、ドメイン参加したWindows 2016サーバマシンに、

RDS ライセンスサーバをインストールし、アクティベートを成功し、

CAL (user)ライセンスをインストールし、診断ツールでチェックしていても、正常。

ライセンス数が１０個に対して、ユーザ２つにそれぞれアサインされていて、残りのライセンスは８個。

RemoteAppの配布も、リモートPC接続も、同じドメインにある他のマシンから接続できている。

ライセンスの状態もアクティブとなっていて、有効期限は「期限切れなし」となっている。

しかし、CALライセンス情報は、有効期限として、発行日から6０日後となっている。

エラーも何も発生していないのですが、なぜ、CALライセンスの有効期限が「期限切れなし」とならないでしょうか？

Local apps come to foreground when using Terminal Services

Hi all, 

We have 2 remote applications running on Server 2016 that is accessed by 150+ users. Recently there have been reports that when hovering over certain areas in the application, local apps that they have running in the background come to the foreground over the Remote applications. 

I have been unable to find any solutions to this issue, any insight would be appreciated.

Remote Desktop RemoteApp .exe (icon) Causing RDweb to crash with Runtime Error

Ok guys, I have been chasing some weird issues with RemoteApp deployment.  I had abandoned the GUI to deploy RemoteApp as the session collection would fail every time when deploying the apps.  I have it narrowed down to a specific program that has an issue.  When trying to setup the new RemoteApp via Powershell without specifying an -IconPath this app fails with this error:"New-RDRemoteApp : Could not find the specified icon:"

 If I try to deploy this app with the -IconPath parameter the process will complete.  However, as soon as this hits the RDweb, IIS crashes out with a generic runtime error.  I have tried to place the icon in the same root folder as the executable, no luck.  I have even opened the exe with Resource Hacker and created a new Icon and exe.  Same problem every time.  I can use powershell to remove the app from the collection and IIS immediately gives me the working RDweb interface after a refresh.  I am at a loss as to why this one application refuses to allow a successful deployment.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Running on VMware ESXi6.5

****-License01.corp.contoso.com = RD License, Broker, Gateway and Web Access (Also handles application licensing)

****-APPS01.corp.contoso.com = RD Session Host (houses the applications and data)

How to go from command prompt to GUI in Windows 2012 R2

i am trying to disable Hyper V (its not going well if anyone could help id appreciate that). So i tried to install Hyper v and then delete it, but when i deleted it i had to restart and it must have deleted the GUI with it. So my VPS is blank with only Administratoron the top of the box. I need to find a way to get back into the server. Now i did find a solution to it using "SConfig" and that method (heres the link to it https://www.howtogeek.com/111967/how-to-turn-the-gui-off-and-on-in-windows-server-2012/ ) . However with mine number 12 says "Log Off User". It doesnt say anything to do with GUI. I know or i think i deleted it but i need it back to get back into my vps. Thanks .

I also had this issue yesterday but that was because my vps was hacked or had a virus, this time i definitely know its my fault. I went to my vps provider and they fixed it for me by reinstalling i for me. I cant go back to them every time I **** up and get them to fix it. I need to learn how to do this myself

Server 2016, Remote app sessions intermittently connecting (protocol error "0x112f")

I'm using RDS/Remoteapp on generally windows 10 clients to fully patched server 2016 hosts. 

I'm getting Disconnected due to a protocol error and it's sometimes fixed by rebooting the host. Each host has 8GB of ram and max one user at a time. Even after a reboot it'll often stop working a few minutes later. 

Google seems to have no results on this platform and issue over RDS

Change from 2008 to 2016, Wyse Terminals, Mouse Delay

we change from 2008R2 to 2016 1607, use Wyse Terminals and have slow Performance? I we click anything we have a delay from 1-2 seconds. Does anybody have same problem?

Remote Desktop Gateway External Authentication from Domain

 I have  setup 2016 R2 RD Gateway in DMZ in a work-group environment.

I have a Windows AD in the inside network. Is there a way to enable the authentication on RD gateway using AD DC as external/LDAP authentication? As a policy I cannot join DMZ systems to inside domain.
