Remote Desktop Licensing Server in Workgroup

Hello, we have 25 Windows 2008 R2 servers not joined to a domain, they are in workgroup, but they can communicate with each other over the network. We use Remote Desktop Licenses - per User, and actually we installed licenses on each server. Some server needs more licenses, some less, so we'd like to optimize Licenses use by installing the Remote Desktop Licensing Server Service on a centralized server, and setting each Windows 2008 R2 server to point to that as Licensing Server.

Do you know if this is possible, since they are in workgroup? Or is there another way?

Outlook 2016 partially download attachments (RDS 2012R2)

Dear Microsoft Technet folks,

Here a very special case I have to deal with these days. Never saw that before.  Serveur is an RDS 2012 R2, office 2016 pro MAK. PST and OST files are GPO redirected to a dedicated shared folder. 

After having migrate a client on a RDS 2012 R2 server, 30 users, 1 user started complaining about some mail attachement getting corrupted.

From time to time, this specific user cannot open the mails attachments bescause it is only partially downloaded. It seems to concern pdf files, as well as JPEG, xlsx, docx. Funy part is that partially downloaded JPEG are readable, but only the top of the picture is displayed, awsome !

Obviously, if you connect on the user Webmail you can download each of the attachements no problems.

Anyway, I tried different things like :

- creating a new profile,

- switching from imap to pop3

- Analysing mail trafic on the firewall Appliance - nothing is droped or blocked

- Opening a case with the mail hoster - do not see anything wrong on their side (well I cannot be sure they really check...)

Does anyone has faced this issue ? An idea for the next step ?

I googled a famous backup software but cannot see a compatible for this server OS version.

I need to have an automatic running scheduled backup for the data on server.

Collections not showing up

I have 2 Terminal Servers (TS4 and TS5) both running Remote Desktop Services. However, I can only see the connections on TS4 for both Terminal Servers. On TS5, I cannot see any of the connections.

Issue connecting Externally to Windows Server 2016

As the title states, I am having an issue connecting externally using Remote Desktop Connection to my Windows Server 2016.

Internally connections go through without issue, but as soon as I attempt to connect Externally (OffSite) I am met with the message "Remote Desktop Connection can't connect to the remote computer for one of the following reasons:

1) Remote access to the server is not enabled

2) The Remote Computer is turned off

3) The remote computer is not available on the network

Make sure the remove computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled."

As stated if I am in office, I can access the server without issue, but accessing it OffSite returns the above can't connect message, I have gone through a large number of recommended fixes found on google and Technet to no avail.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

正規ライセンスをもって、ドメイン参加したWindows 2016サーバマシンに、

RDS ライセンスサーバをインストールし、アクティベートを成功し、

CAL (user)ライセンスをインストールし、診断ツールでチェックしていても、正常。

ライセンス数が１０個に対して、ユーザ２つにそれぞれアサインされていて、残りのライセンスは８個。

RemoteAppの配布も、リモートPC接続も、同じドメインにある他のマシンから接続できている。

ライセンスの状態もアクティブとなっていて、有効期限は「期限切れなし」となっている。

しかし、CALライセンス情報は、有効期限として、発行日から１２０日後となっている。

エラーも何も発生していないのですが、なぜ、CALライセンスの有効期限が「期限切れなし」とならないでしょうか？

I haven't found a new book that is related to Remote Desktop Services.
Is there a book about advanced troubleshooting with RDS, like reviewing tracing logs?

And where does RDS belong to? 

In my opinion, If an RDS environment is big enough, it is almost an Azure which contains Net, ADDS, VMs...etc.

How to study and troubleshoot RDS problem properly?

I rent a 2012 R2 server from a 3rd party. I have 2 free CAL licenses that I have been using for well over a year. Suddenly, after renewing the Cal licenses (which is required every 120 day i can no longer print from my remote desk top. I can log on to the server remotely and work but can not longer print..Please help.

Isolate User to specific Session Host Server

Hi All,

I've got a Remote Desktop Farm using Windows Server 2016 and although I have success with the load balancing, I need help with assigning just 1 user to a specific session host server.

I have 4 Windows 2016 Servers:

1. RDBC.domain.local - running RD Web Access, RD Gateway and RD Connection Broker

2. SQL-License.domain.local - running RD Licensing and SQL Server 2012

3. RD01.domain.local - running Remote Desktop Session Host

4. RD02.domain.local - running Remote Desktop Session Host


Basically I have 2 Remote Desktop sessions host servers that are load balancing in the farm. I've just got one user who needs to use a specific software (that cost) and has only been approved for installation on 1 server only.

Without creating a new Collection, is there a way I can get this 1 user to bypass the load balancing and always log into one host session server (RD01) instead?

Explorer.exe not responding / SLOW printing

Hi,

I am currently running a Terminal Server on Windows 2012 R2 with all the latest updates installed.

We have a print server also running on a different 2012R2 machine.

Printing is really slow.. If I open printer properties and click Print Test page it takes up to 30 seconds until the dialog box "A test page has been sent to your printer" shows up.

I also notice while having Resource monitor running during these tests that explorer.exe goes to "not responding" and then goes back to running once the dialog box pops up.

I have uninstalled the anti-virus (trend) as well, but no difference.

I ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

and sfc /scannow

I'm running out of ideas on what to try next..

Windows 10 || Build 1809||Remote Desktop not working ||windows Defender firewall on!!

Hi All,

I am using windows 10 & build 1809 PC as hardened PC , All the port closed in  PC through firewall inbound and outbound rule.

And explicitly allowed only RDP port 3389 and windows defender firewall is off mode ,i am able to take RDP  from other system.

When I turned on the windows defender Firewall in windows PC ,unable to take remote desktop from other PC.

For testing purpose ,we have enabled the TCP and UDP all port ,i am able to take RDP,at moment blocking all TCP & UDP port

and allowed RDP port-3389 in firewall facing same issue.

Please help me how to resolve issue and capture event logs in windows firewall .
