Hi,
our workstations with Windows 10 pro are in this weekend updated to version 1803. For main system we use RemoteAPP aplications on Windows server 2012R2 (Windows server 2012R2 is full updated). After update on client station are RemoteAPP slower, and right mouse button is unresponsive, or react verly long time...
It is a big problem for us.
PS: after replace mstsc.exe and mstscax.dll from older version Windows 10 is all OK. but this is not a solution.
Thanks.
Hi,
Remote Desktop Connection Broker won't accept remote connections when i dig out i found following problems
1-Remote Desktop connection broker service stopped as server restarted at midnight due to schedule updates.
2-In event logs i found the following error
The Remote Desktop Connection Broker server could not enumerate the targets for the provider named NULL from the database.Pooled virtual desktop collection name: NULL
Error: Logon to the database failed.
When i started broker service its start working but again after 10 to 20 days same issue reoccurred.
Since 2014 RDS2012 working fine and i am facing this issue from last 5 months.
I have added Adding the broker to "Windows Authorization Access Group" still problem exist.
Please help me out how can resolve this.
Case:
I published several apps on our Windows Server 2016 via RDS.
I connected to our apps via an iPad.
Via the onscreen keyboard of the iPad I could press the Windows Key when magically the Start menu appeared.
I couldn't start an app when I tried to start one via the touchscreen but I managed to do start any application installed on the RDS server via the onscreen keyboard Arrows + Enter key on the iPad.
I could also reach the Task Manager and select the Run command (example Explorer.exe)
Looks like The published apps is just a RDP connection with auto start of the application and with the Start taskbar removed from first sight.
Does anyone have the same issue or does anyone know a solution?
Tools:
Windows Server 2016
RDS role
Publish Apps (Any app)
iPad for connecting to a published app.
Onscreen keyboard.
I'm trying to set up an RD Connection Broker for RemoteApp, but I'm getting an error when I try to create a self signed cert for the RD Gateway:
The self-signed certificate has been successfully created, but RD Gateway cannot store the certificate in the directory C:\Users\myuserid\Documents. Please specify a different directory, and try again."
I tried other directories, all of which I have full rights to, but still no dice. I can't find anything with this error. Any idea how I can get past it?
FWIW, I have no problem logging into this server through RDP.
Thanks.
Hi. We have a new WS2016 RDS deployment (VMs on Hyper-V):
- 2x WS2016 RDGW in NLB
- 2x RDCB in HA configuration
- couple RDSH servers
The problem is that in 30-50% of the connection attempts via these gateways, the connection is stuck at the "Configuring remote session" message. The connection is never successfully estabilished when this happens and it is closed without any error couple minutes later. When you try again (or just immediatelly cancel the connection and reconnect), the connection may or may not go through.
When this problem happens, I can see there's single HTTP connection on the RDGW that accepted the connection with 0 bytes transferred in either direction. There are no related errors at this time.
Can anyone help? Btw. this problem also happens when connecting to a different single-host RDS deployment through these gateways.
I suspected the problem might be in the NLB, but removing either of the gateways from the NLB configuration (and from RDS farm) doesn't help, the issue is still there.
Rebooting the gateways helps for a short while (hours), but then the issue is back.
There are some other errors on the gateways, but these don't correlate to the connection attempts (event 210, source terminalservices-gateway: "Http transport: IN channel could not find a corresponding OUT channel" with no other details).
RDP clients are various ... W8.1, W10, Mac...
Hi
not sure if this is the correct area or if it needs to go to an azure forum
I have recently installed Azure NPS Extension onto our current remote desktop gateway setup. everything seems to work fine, I am able to enter my credentials and then approve the connection on the phone however after that the credentials prompt comes up again. it does go through after entering it again however it is an extra step which doesn't happen when using it without 2 factor.
I cannot find anyone having the same issue. please let me know if you have any ideas why the prompt would come up twice.
thank you.

Hi Guys,
I am experiencing a problem with Remote Desktop Services running on Windows Server 2008 R2. The RDS deployment is setup as a server farm with the following servers:
All servers in the farm are operating as normal however sometimes when a RD Session Host reboots or has no logged in users for a period of time, the User Profile Service starts rejecting login requests and returns the following error message:
The User Profile Service service failed the logon.
User profile cannot be loaded.
Due to the way the Connection Broker works in 2008 R2, a server failing to take logon requests correctly has the ability to take down the entire farm which is what my customer is experiencing in their environment.
The RD Farm is setup to use folder redirection and roaming profiles to ensure the user gets a consistant experience regardless what server in the farm they connect to. All servers in the farm are identical in system configuration, lockdown policies and RDS configuration which is mostly administered through Group Policy.
To resolve a failed session host a simple server reboot of the effected host is required. Sometimes up to 3 or 4 reboots are required before the host starts taking connections normally again. Also rebooting a session host for maintenance during for Windows Updates or other purposes may also introduce the problem.
This morning I had a call from my customer and the issue was occurring to RD-SH-01 - the server needed to be rebooted 4 times before it started processing user logons as normal.
I don't understand how multiple reboots magically resolve the issue, perhaps a system service is starting before another service which it is dependent upon? Has anyone else out there had a similar problem?
Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

When this happens the start menu will not work. This corresponds with me enabling the roaming of C:\Users\user\AppData\Local
I'm wondering if there is a folder I should exclude from roaming.
If it's not being caused by roaming the local folder then it may be caused by some GPO settings I also changed. I did this because windows search was out of control and consuming too many resources. Unfortunately I cannot disable search completely because of Outlook. My discussion on Outlook and search I had to re enable indexing outlook.
Any guidance on this is appreciated.
So far the only fix I've come up with is temporary, which is to delete the local profile and on the next login the start menu works. After a day or 2 it stops working again. I haven't totally recreated the user profile and I'm hoping this is not the ultimate fix because that would be a PITA to have to do that for all the users that have this happen.
Can you tell us when we can join the Public Preview for RDMi please?
All we can find is availability Q1 2018 - do you have any more detail than this ?
Thanks
Hello,
I installed RDS on my servers windows server 2012 R2. My database is installed on a windows server 2008 R2.
The firewall is disabled. I created a SQL account with db_creator rights. I created a DNS round robbin.
Below broker settings:
Database connection string :
DRIVER=SQL Server Native Client 11.0;SERVER=ax-bi-sql;Trusted_Connection=Yes;APP=Remote Desktop Services Connection Broker;Database=RDSBrokers
Folder to store database file :
E:\SQL2014
DNS round robin name:
rds.mondomain.local
But I get an error :
I do not know why. Please could you help me ?
Thanks a lot.Hello Experts,
I am looking for a solution to secure RDP connections to server with an additional layer of 2FA. something like, smart cards (virtual) or azure MFA etc. but instead of enabling users for multi factor authentication, i am looking for solution when user rdp any server they should be sent a otp or should be asked to enter code from ms authenticator or google autheticator like application to gain access to server.
or combination of random code + somecode (something like RSA but we dont want to go for hardware based solution or third party which involves cost)
What options do I have?
Thank you so much !!
Thank you
So, with our recent migration to the Remote desktop services from our old Citrix farm we stumbled on some strange behavior of language switching in some user sessions.
Some users claim that they can't use Russian letters, so I make shadow connection to them sessions and see something like this:
Usually, I press Ctrl+Shift - and then I see this:
But then I try to type something - letters are still EN.
Until I click this small keyboard and select Russian:
After this manipulation I can switch input languages as I please with Ctrl+Shift combo: just Ctrl+Shift - and I'm typing English, Ctrl+Shift again - and I'm typing Russian.
Please tell me how to avoid this mess? I don't know nor correct nor simple solution. But I need a solution both correct and simple, may be through GPO )) How to set this Russian layout checkbox automatically for each user, may be...
Hi.
I've migrated a Server 2008 R2 (Hyper-V VM) to Server 2016.
After that, I've noticed Remote Desktop Services (termsvcs) uses 20-30% CPU.
I've other Server 2016 VM's and CPU usage is less than 1%.
How can resolve it?
Thanks.
Hi Forum
The last days we are experiences some issues on Server 2012 R2 with rds
The server stops responding on logon (Welkome screen), I get the following events in the event log:
A timeout (120000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the following services:
iphlpsvc
ShellHWDetection
NlaSvc
Appinfo
Schedule
It Seems that the issue are appearing after we installed KB4088876
I have seen the issue on two servers until now, one on hyper-V host og one on VMware
Does everybody experience the same issue ?
The only solution is to reset the server (Virtuel)
Thanks in advance

We have a machine that is running our shipping software with a scale. The software goes out to a SQL server and pulls some data. This makes the application run very slow as the node is distant from the SQL server.
To get around this, we are running the application through an RDP window on the RDS server (which is on the same rack). However, now the scale that is hooked to the local machine doesn't populate the weight in the shipping application.
so far I have tried:
1. Making sure "ports and other plugnplay" devices is checked in the RDP session setup.
Any other ideas on this?
Hi,
I have a built an RDS farm in a domain using .local for the server hosts, I have a wildcard certificate that resolves to rdsserverfarm.com.
Can I use the wildcard cert for all servers within deployment properties and rename the connection broker to match?
What is the best method for this type of deployment?
Thanks
