Licence server not working anymore after updating windows

Hi,

We have a server 2016 With remote Desktop services. The server is live and everybody can login.

After installing the roles for terminal server everything was great till i update the server.

We get a message that the licence server is given and we have a grace period of 118 days left.

The licence server is activated with client cals.

When we add a collection and add the hostserver we get the error:

Property page: Update RD licensing failed: due to exception The licensing settings can not be set: "Invalid operation"


Has anyone a idea how to solve this ?

2012 R2 Remote Apps & DIsabling SSL V3 TLS 1

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for some guidance on how to disable SSL 3 and TLS 1.0 on a 2012 R2 box acting as a RD Gateway, Connection Broker & Licensing Server.  I have disabled SSL V2 successfully via IIS Crypto. When I disable SSL V3 though my Remote Apps stop working - specifically the connection to the remote desktop host server fails. I didn't try disabling TLS 1.0 yet, as I haven't conquered SSL3. We are using a 3rd party signed SSL cert.

Any have specific experience doing this?

unable to open attachments in outlook and other office issues on remote desktop

Hello,

We are currently using office 2010 on server 2012 r2 demote desktop

Any time someone tries to open an attachment from inside outlook they get a file corrupted error, but if they are in the office, using outlook and try to open the same attachment it works. This includes administrators on remote desktop

On top of this users are unable to open some files in remote desktop, either excel or word, but when in the office and using their own computer all files open correctly.

We recently moved our remote desktop to a different, more powerful/better server and everything was set up the same in terms of the remote services, but this server does have a couple of additional services running that weren't on the old one.

Any ideas, everything I have found here before has had no affect on this problem.

Remote Desktop App with Azure AD

It seems that I am unable to connect to a computer on my network with the Remote Desktop App (trusted Windows Store App on my Windows Laptop or from the iOS App store on my iPhone), while I am able to connect successfully to it from Remote Desktop Connection (old Windows app).

The remote computer is joined to Azure AD (Windows 10 Pro, up to date; again, this works from the old Remote Desktop Connection application on Windows).

Can anyone tell me if connection to a machine joined to Azure AD is supported on the Remote Desktop App or if there is something I need to do to configure it properly?

How to force RDS to use TLS1.1 or 1.2 for Windows server 2008 SP2

Hi All

Is there any way to force the RDS of Windows server 2008 SP2 to use TLS1.1 or 1.2?

Microsoft has released an update to add TLS1.1&1.2 support for RDS of Windows server 2008 SP2, we can safely disable TLS1.0 without breaking RDP connection after installed this update. However, since many other applications on server still need to use TLS1.0, we have to remain TLS1.0 for other applications and force RDS to use TLS1.2 to meet PCI DSSv3.2 policy.

As checked RDP-TCP property with "tsconfig", there is only 3 options for security layer(RDP security layer/Negotiate/SSL/TLS1.0) and cannot set TLS1.1 or 1.2 here.

Is there any way to set it in registry, group policy or other places?

RemoteApp Disconnected 2012R2 Environment

Hi,

I have scoured the internet for a solution to this issue however I have had no luck and have spent a lot of hours trying to get this sorted.

We have a client who uses RDS via RemoteApps. 

Their environment is as per below:

Broker Server

Licensing Server

Gateway Server

4 x RDS Host Servers

All servers are running Server 2012 R2

Users experience issues of receiving the below error message when they try to launch an application via the RemoteApps webpage:

When they sign out and back in it works fine.

I have investigate the error logs and only receive the generic Microsoft event ID's 40 / 41 and reason codes which give no valuable information.

I am leaning towards this being a networking issue but am unsure.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Windows Update....Mess

- Regular users being able to restart a server (https://support.microsoft.com/en-za/help/4014345/how-to-block-user-access-to-windows-update-on-windows-server-2016)  ; 

- "Dual scan" feature resulting in the lovely GPO "Do not allow deferral policies to cause scan against Windows Update". It tooks me 30 min to understand the latter (and I'm not sure I get it right).

I just can believe the Windows Update mess we're in....

Remote App Trusted Publisher SHA1 vs SHA256

We are trying to do Remote App via RD Web on Server 2012R2 and I'm running into a problem where the publisher is not trusted. I've put the thumbprint from the cert I'm using for the server into the GPO setting "Specify SHA1 Thumbprints of Certificates Representing Trusted .rdp Publishers" but we still get prompted for an Untrusted Publisher. I also have the SPN entered in the "Allow Delegating Default Credentials" GP setting.

I have two questions:

1.) Obviously I'm not using a SHA1 cert, so will a SHA256 cert work for this, or is that the cause of my problem?

2.) If the cert doesn't have to be SHA1, is there anything else that I'm missing?

Remote desktop using Azure NPS extension

Hi 

not sure if this is the correct area or if it needs to go to an azure forum

I have recently installed Azure NPS Extension onto our current remote desktop gateway setup. everything seems to work fine, I am able to enter my credentials and then approve the connection on the phone however after that the credentials prompt comes up again. it does go through after entering it again however it is an extra step which doesn't happen when using it without 2 factor.

I cannot find anyone having the same issue. please let me know if you have any ideas why the prompt would come up twice.

RD Web Access 2012 R2, unable to load in latest build of Edge on Windows 10

Hi,

We have recently had a few users reporting the below when loading our remote desktop web access page using Edge:

"Error: Unable to display RD Web Access

An unexpected error has occurred that is preventing this page from being displayed correctly.

Viewing this page in Internet Explorer with the Enhanced Security Configuration enabled can cause such an error.

Please try loading this page without the Enhanced Security Configuration enabled. If this error continues to be displayed, please contact your administrator."

A couple of users who have reported this, then try in Chrome or IE and it works absolutely fine.

I myself, have tried internally on my Win 10 Pro machine, and I instead get the below:

"Cannot securely connect to this page

This might be because the site uses outdated or unsafe TLS security settings. If this keeps happening, try contacting the website’s owner."

 

IE also works without issue for me, and there is no HTTPS certificate issue and the cert is trusted and valid.

Have there been any changes to Edge in recent Windows updates to break compatibility with RD web access?

We can simply tell users to use IE, but when Microsoft tries to force people into using Edge as the default, and this happens, it causes us unnecessary support calls.

Smartcard pass-through fails when using remote desktop gateway

Some admins in our IT group have been attempting to set-up RDS (incl RDG) on Windows Server 2016. It works in most scenarios:

  1. Password auth to RDS server (with NLA)
  2. Smartcard auth to RDS server (with NLA)
  3. Password auth "passthrough" to a server via RDS (with NLA)

I've also verified smartcard auth to a server directly (not with a remote desktop gateway). For some reason, I'm unable to passthrough my smartcard to a server when using a remote desktop gateway. It simply comes back with "login failed" on the client. The "login failed" message appears as an error during the hop to the gateway server (i.e. it doesn't seem to even try to connect to the destination server).

On the RDG server, there are two error events generated:

  • AUDIT FAILURE, ID 4625, Unknown user name or bad password., NULL SID, SubStatus 0xC0000064
  • AUDIT FAILURE, ID 4625, An Error occured during Logon., NULL SID, Status 0x80090347


I'm not sure why a smartcard would work in one situation but result in Unknown user name or password in another. Any ideas on where to start?

RemoteAPP after windows 10 update 1803 are slow and right mouse button is not responding (it reacts only sometimes)

Hi,

our workstations with Windows 10 pro are in this weekend updated to version 1803. For main system we use RemoteAPP aplications on Windows server 2012R2 (Windows server 2012R2 is full updated). After update on client station are RemoteAPP slower, and  right mouse button is unresponsive, or react verly long time... 

It is a big problem for us.

PS: after replace mstsc.exe and mstscax.dll from older version Windows 10 is all OK. but this is not a solution.

CredSSP Encryption Orcacle Remediation Error

Hello,

A couple of my users want to use RDP to do their work, but recently they have been getting this error. 

This is simply trying to get onto a workstation. So in my use case the user is just trying to RDP onto a Windows 10 Enterprise Edition (they are trying to log onto their computer from home), not a Windows Server or anything like that.

In my research I've found that I can get around this by going into the the group policy editor and going toComputer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Credentials Delegation,and then trying to change the Encryption Oracle Remediation policyto Enabled and then change the Protection level to Vulnerable. 

But when I go into the group policy editor the Encryption Oracle Remediation policyis not there. 

So I am not sure what I can do to fix this, all I want is the ability to remote into a Windows 10 machine, I have tried from multiple computers that reside on my network (and on a VPN as well) can RDP into other computers, except for my user's one workstation. Is there something I can reinstall on my user's workstation or repair to let computers RDP connect to it?

Can i connect 2 screens to my PC and then give remote acces to someone else just for ONE of the screens?

Hi, I've looking for this solution but I couldn't find anything.

Considering that I connect 2 screens to my laptop.
I need to give remote access to someone else, this person needs to use my computer, and at the same time I have to use the same computer, is it possible that this other person can work in of the screens and I can work using  the browser of the other screen for example?

desktop icons sometimes away (2xwin2016 terminalserver with broker)

Hello, 

customer has two windows 2016 terminalserver and one broker.  (with user-disk for the profiles)

He said that sometimes program desktop icons are away.   (not the whole exe file, just the link) (or even normal files)

I compared the content of below path on both terminalservers and it was a bit different. 

C:\Users\Public\Desktop 

Customer was afraid and now never saves any imporant stuff on desktop.

Do you know what happend here?

Customer is sure that he never works in a emtpy temp profile, because the said he see other personal stuff.

User Disk Files are saved on a separate server

Remote Desktop Does Not Attempt Connection

This is tough for me to describe so I'll give it a shot. Ever since the July 24th update (July 24, 2018—KB4340917) I have not been able to connect to to any remote desktop host by name. It works by IP address but not by the host's name.

I get the usual "Remote Desktop can't find the computer "DavidsPC". This might mean that "DavidsPC" does not belong..." etc etc.

Note, I am able to connect to this remote computer using mobile devices (Android and iPhone) without a problem.

In researching the problem I found lots of posts about KB4103721 however I do not have that particular update installed on my computer.

Thoughts?
