When I run the commands while logged in I get the results immediately. This is not in a "run as administrator" session. This is a newish 2012 R2 install.

Here is from opening PS right from the desktop:

====

PS U:\> hostname

PS U:\> Import-Module remotedesktop

PS U:\> Get-RDServer -ConnectionBroker rdcb002.ads.local
Server                                             Roles

======

I only have 2 broker servers, and it does the same regardless of the -connectionbroker value (the example here is after making sure that the active broker is this server)

I get the same error when running this from orchestrator as a "run a command" with powershell -file c:\script\blah.ps1

Exchange 2013 authentication issues for users of RDS server

We have a customer that uses thin clients and multiple RDS servers for the majority of their users. They use a software application that contains a feature which will open a new email message window from within Outlook to simplify the process of sending an email when needed in their workflow.  When the customer was running Exchange 2010, this feature worked correctly, but after upgrading to Exchange 2013, the new email message window does not open in Outlook when prompted from the other application. Instead, the user is prompted by Outlook to enter their credentials.  Whether the user cancels the prompt or enters their credentials correctly, authentication fails and they are immediately prompted for credentials again, over and over.

We have ruled out anything specific with the third-party application.  We know it works fine with other customers on Exchange 2013 (and other customers using RDS servers) and for the users at our customer site that have full PCs that are not using the RDS servers. Only the RDS users at this customer site face this issue.  We also known the same issue occurs if the RDS users click any "MAILTO" hyperlinks or shortcuts, thus eliminating the third-party application from the equation.

The customer is running 4 RDS servers (WS 2008 R2) and a separate Exchange 2013 mail server within their network.  The users have Personal Desktop VDIs running Windows 7 with Outlook 2010 in "online" mode (it is worth mentioning that the same credential prompt behavior occurs in "cached" mode as well, but the email message windowwill open after credentials are successfully entered). When running a network trace, we see that there are a number of HTTP 401 errors with authentication going to the Exchange server (this occurs if authentication is set to "Basic", "NTLM" or "negotiate").  Again, this was not an issue while on Exchange 2010 and non-RDS users do not have this issue while now on Exchange 2013.

Perhaps the issue is with the user profiles in the RDS environment (registry values for Exchange/Outlook need to be updated somehow)?  Perhaps the RDS sessions cannot communicate properly with Exchange since 2013 switched to using RPC over HTTPS?  Perhaps the RDS user logins are not set properly for the correct mail profile to be identified/assigned/authorized? We are trying to advise the customer where the issue lies, and could use some advice.

Event 4005 - WinLogin [Windows logon process has unexpectedly terminated]

Folks,

Just noticed this becoming an issue on a Windows 2012 R2 Terminal Server after the last round of Patch Tuesday updates stemming from August 9th, 2016.

Typically, I'm rebooting the server every 24 hours to over-correct the issue - rebooting not being the best option here.

In previous discussions, it's advised to remove KB3002657 or KB3035132 from the server.  Is this still the best option to restore full functionality even with the last round of patches and updates? Just to confirm, we are not using webroot as an AV solution.

Server 2012 R2 RDS - Printers are not mapped to Remote Session Host

Hi Everybody,

I'm totally out of ideas... Following problem:

We host an RDS Environment for our customer. The environment is hosted within an IBM Datacenter. They deliver the Operating System.

The environment consist of 20 Terminal Server 2012 R2 on VMWare.
With our old Environment (2008 R2) we used Easy Print to map the printers of the client. This worked perfect for years.

With the new Environment, the printers are not mapped anyhow.
To enable this, I tried all of the following points:

Mark the checkboxes for Easy Print.

No Success.

Set the properties via GPO.
No Success...

Installed the printer service
No Success...

The curious thing is, that the ports are mapped ( cant post images right now...) But the ports are shown in print server as TS001... Port type: write.
But no driver seems to be installed for them.

I googled the net up and down, but didn't found anything useful.
Additonally I gave Users full Access to c:\Windows\System32\Spool\Printers.
Also no success.

I have no idea, whats going wrong... There is not a single message in event logs pointing to printers. all silent... but just no printers.

I rebuild the environment testwise on Amazon EC2 with a current 2012 R2 Image... And voila... Out of the box the printers are mapped.
I'm beginning to think, that the 2012 R2 Image from IBM is somehow wrong...

But maybe I'm still missing something... Does anybody has an additonal idea?

Thanks,
Chris

Samsung S7 and few other andriod devices not redirected in RDP session with MTP mode

Hi,

I need to have Samsung S7 to be redirected into the RDP session.
When I connect my phone to my laptop (windows 7 / windows8) I see the phone in both MTP and PTP modes on the client end. However, when I create an RDP session to another Windows 7 machine, the phone is redirected only when it is set to PTP mode. The same device fails to redirect when in MTP mode (neither is it visible in the deviec manager on the remote machine)

Also, conversely, when connecting to Windows 20008R2 server OS via RDS, the device is only visible when in MTP mode and does not redirect when in PTP mode.
Is this behavior expected? is there any particular reason for this behavior?

Published Remoteapp is not starting

I have about 45 users using a published remoteapp without any issue except for one user.  On her workstation, if I login as her, and I double click on a published remoteapp, nothing happens.  I look at the RDP file setup and it is correct.  When logged in to that same workstation as a different user and launch the same RDP file, it starts up the remote application no problem.  So could not be the RDP file.  If I login as her on that workstation, and start mstsc.exe,  I get the Remote Desktop Connection and is able to connect to the TS and run the application that way.  With the RDP file however, I can't even right click on it and edit or do anything.  It just acts like I did not click anything.

Not sure what I am missing.  This just happen last week.  Before that, everything was working fine until a Windows update.  Rolling back the update did not help however.  The OS is Windows 10 and 2008 R2 for the TS server.

In gpresult the GPO is applied, so I don't understand it.

Rdweb 2012 r2 Password reset page

Hello All,

I need a little help.  I would like to change the password.aspx file but I'm not sure how to do it.  When a user goes to thehttps://server/RDWeb/Pages/en-US/password.aspx page and they reset their password the screen blinks the form clears and they get a message that their password has been reset.

Is it possible to have the form fields clear when the user hits okay and just display the message of a successful password reset?

Thank you!

Hi folks.  I'm looking to test the enhancements of RemoteFX technologies in Server 2016.  Can someone recommend a GPU to do so for about $200?  Thanks.

Does RemoteFX work when remoting from Windows 10 client to another Windows 10 client?

Hi folks.  I"m researching this information for a customer and I am not overly familiar with RemoteFX beyond knowing that you can enable this on a hyper v server for guest machines to increase graphics capability.  My question is, if my customer remoted from one Windows 10 machine to another Windows 10 machine, can they/are they leveraging the enhanced graphics capabilities of RemoteFX or can it only be used for guest VMs running on a HyperV server host?  Thank you.

Multiple device CALs issued to a computer in a Mixed (2003, 2012) TS/RDS environment

Hi All,

I have a single AD environment in which client computers with at least Windows 7 OS are connecting mostly to a 2012 RDS collection but sometimes they are connectig to legacy 2003 TS hosts.

The issue seems to be that the client would loose its issued 2012 CAL when it connects to the 2003 host and get a new one when again connecting to a 2012 host. As a result, clients will have muiltiple device CALs assigned in the licensing manager and that's a pain.

Please let me know if there is a workaround you may know how to handle this.

Thank you in advance.

Users receiving error after disconnected RDS session

Hello, I have a remoteapp published that many users are experiencing problems with "reconnecting" to a session. What appears to be happening is that the remoteapp program is closed, however the terminal server session is left open on the server. When the user tries again to start the remoteapp, they are getting the error The program did not start on the remote computer. For assistance, contact your system administrator. I have to log the user off the RDS 2012R2 server and then they are able to log into the remoteapp. It happens frequently and to many, but not all, users.

Server 2012R2 DataCenter edition. The Remote Desktop Gateway manager is installed also, which I fear may be part of the problem. I am not connecting users remote, so I would like to remove that role, however I do not know what impact that will have on the RDS server as well as my remoteapp that is already published.

RDS Certificate Mismatch error

Hello,

We have a 2012R2 RDS farm with 3 session hosts.

DNS farm name = farm.domain.local

Session hosts = ts1.domain.local, ts2.domain.local, ts3.domain.local

I have created a SAN cert and it is issued to farm.domain.local from our internal CA. We are not exposing this farm to external users.

All 3 session hosts servers fqdns are listed under the subject alternative name section of the cert.

When I RDP to farm.domain.local I receive a name mismatch error

Name requested = farm.domain.local

Name in certificate from remote computer = ts1.domain.local

If I click view certificate I can see the name of the session host server listed in the SAN details.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Removing TS Sever From Domain And Readding

If I remove my terminal server from the domain, and then re add it, will it
cause problems, or create new user profiles for the ones that are already
created?

Suspicious remote access noted.

Please Guide me:-

I have suspicions that someone other than people on my team have obtained the credentials to remotely access a Windows 2012R2 Server, and deleted important data. I need to get some evidence before I start pointing fingers or get everyone alerted that someone might be hacking our servers.

Can I get a log of all the computers that have remotely accessed my server (by remote access I mean using the remote desktop features of Windows server)? Ideally there should be some information about each computer, at least their public IP address

Remote App and Remote Desktop working but not with the mobile application

$

Hi,

I have installed Remote Desktop Services on Windows Terminal Server 2016 TP5 servers.

I'm using a gateway, in order to connect from outside over HTTPS.

RemoteApp and Remote Desktop are working really good from Windows Computers Clients with the Remote Desktop Application (from the Windows Store) or with the default mstsc client.

When I use the same application for a Windows Phone 10 device, or with the Android or iOS application it doesn't work, even if I use the same wifi network as my laptop.

I can add the remote ressources, but I cannot connect to them with the same configuration as my laptop (correct credential, hostname, gateway address...). Same thing for Desktop connections.

The error seems to be the gateway, but I don't understand why it works with my laptop and not with any mobile phone.

On the Windows Phone, I get the following error message : "we couldn't connect to the gateway because of an error. If it keeps happening, ask your admin or tech support for help"

Remote Desktop Powershell commands fail

$

I have a Server 2012R2 Virtual Desktop RD deployment with 2 web access/gateway servers, 1 broker, and 2 clustered Hyper-V hosts.

The Server manager shows everything properly, and clients are able to authenticate and access the VM's.

When I try to access the deployment from powershell things completely fail.  Remote or local to the broker.  Here's a sample output when executing commands on the broker:

get-rdserver -ConnnectionBroker foo

-get-rdserver : The RD Connection Broker server is not available.  Verify that you can connect to the RD Connection Broker server.

get-RDVirtualDesktopColllection -Connectionbroker foo.bar.com

get-RDVirtualDesktopColllection : A Remote Desktop Services deployment does not exist on foo.bar.com.  This operation can be performed after creating a deployment.

These are running on the broker where there is clearly a deployment in operation.  Any suggestions on how to get this working is appreciated.
