Dependency on backend session host server to run gateway farm

Hi,

Environment.

  1. 2x RDG Servers with WebApp role installed
  2. 2012 R2 SERVER01.domain.local - 1x Server with Connection Broker, Session host and WebApp - 2012 R2
  3. SERVER02.domain.local - 1x Server with Connection Broker, Session host and Web Access - 2008 R2

We had an issue with SERVER01 at the weekend and while it was offline, noone could access the gateway servers at all, coming up with an error "there is a problem connecting to the gateway server". It didnt matter what resource they connected to through the gateway, the message was the same.

I want the people to be able to use the gateway servers independently of any other servers in the environment. Have I set things up wrong or is there a problem here?

Got "RPC server is unavailable" error when configuring user profile disk to use a samba share

I mostly followed this guide (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2012/11/13/easier-user-data-management-with-user-profile-disks-in-windows-server-2012.aspx). The file server is samba based.

I've verified below two cases:

1. I could map the share to a local drive from windows and create/modify files/folders without problem.

2. I could set the disk path to a windows share.

PS C:\Users\Administrator.000> Set-RDSessionCollectionConfiguration -CollectionName "Test Session Collection" -EnableUserProfileDisk -MaxUserProfileDiskSizeGB 20 -DiskPath \\remote-file-server\data2
Could not create the template VHD.
Error Message: The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA).+ CategoryInfo          : InvalidResult: (:) [], WorkflowTerminatedException+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : JobStateFailed+ PSComputerName        : localhost
I am using Windows server 2012 and Samba 3.6.

Does anyone know what the error means and how to resolve it? Thanks.

urgent help needed: system doesn't add next VMs to "managed virtual desktop collection" creation fails with event 15090 "failed to modify resources"

in my office, i have deployed a test VDI scenario with server 2012 R2.

all RDCB + RDWeb + RDVH are installed on one server.

i have a sysprepd Generation1 windows 8.1 VM as template VM in my hyper-V console which is in shut down state.

using create virtual desktop collection option, i am creating a "managed pooled virtual desktop collection" and i have selected that system creates 2 VMs for me.

at the end of the "managed pooled virtual desktop collection", system stops on the VM creation procedure.

i has created 1st VM and has turned it on and VM booted and mini-setup done. 

but it doesn't create the 2nd VM and stops in that state for ever.

i checked RDVH event log and i found this event 15090  :

'pool-vm2' failed to modify resources. (Virtual machine ID CF2DB197-613D-4E0E-9DC5-CB11B3286580)

i have to cancel the task and system removes that VM.

why system stops in that state ? what does it mean here :  failed to modify resources ?

really need help.

Where do I find the Remote Desktop User CALs after purchase from my vendor?

We have recently purchased RDP user cals for thin clients to be used through out our facilities. We have not received any license or reference number to apply to the RDP server to activate or reflect that we has 80 available user licenses. We have the order listing in our Windows Volume License Portal, but that is the only reference to the users cals we see.

Are we looking in the wrong place?

Unable to launch DCOM object on server 2008 and 2012 when the server is in Disconnected mode

We are migrating our applications from server 2003 to 2012 and 2008,  We are facing some issues with our legacy applications that use Com, com+ and dcom architecture.

DCOM settings

a) Identity - Interactive User

b) Remote Access - Allowed to all users

When we connect to server using remote desktop services,  DCOM components can be successfully invoked.  However, if we close the remote desktop session, and the server is in disconnected mode the client applications can't invoke the DCOM.

Can someone tell me what setting I should change so the component can be initiated while it is in disconnected mode?

RD Web Access - Pass through Credentials on Connect to Remote PC Tab

Hello,

I have implemented 2012R2 RD Web Access/Gateway, and everything is working fine.  The only thing I do not like is that when you go the the Connect to a remote PC to connect to a server, you have to login once for the RD Gateway, and again for the server. Is it possible to pass through the Gateway credentials to the computer login for non-domain computers?

This works as expected from the RemoteApps and Desktops Tab.

Cannot install the Hotfix KB3047296 on Server 2012 R2 while prerequisite updates are installed

Hi 

I am trying to install the kb3047296 on Server 2012 R2 RDS server, but it shows me The Update is not applicable to your computer error.

I checked the  prerequisite and can confirm the kb2919355 shows installed on the server.

Any idea how to resolve this?

Here is the Hotfix I need to install: KB3047296

Remoteapps cert error @@@HELP@@@

Hi All.

i have been breaking my head off for several days now and i need some help.

i must have implemented remoteapps using server 2012 r2 hundreds of times, but this time, something is not going right! 

here is the deal:

1. dc + ca

2. sql server

3. sccm server

4. rdsh server

on the rdsh server i have deployed remote desktop services - session based deployment (aka remoteapps)

1. i have created a collection and deployed several apps

2. in IIS console i have created new domain cert

3. in IIS console i have changed the https bindings to the newly created cert

4. in the deployment properties i have changed the security settings and introduced the new cert

5. the deployment status is cerrently "trusted"

6. on a client VM (win7): control panel - remoteapps - typed the https://servername/rdweb/feed/webfeed.aspx

7. got the error in the screenshot:

i have done this process from start to finish many times,

always worked out flawlessly!

what am i missing?

I want user after they work with word for example, they save their work to sharepoint 2013 mysite onedrive

so, we don't need file server to save office files,

is the way possible ? if yes, please tell the solution :)

"there are no available computers in the pool. Try connecting again " error in VDI 2012 R2

Hi friends

in my office, i have deployed a test VDI scenario with server 2012 R2.

all RDCB + RDWeb + RDVH are installed on one server.

i have created an unmanaged pooled session collection and inside it i have added a windows 8.1 enterprise generation2 VM.

from a client i browse to RD Web page with domain\user1 and when i click on collection name, RDP to that windows 8.1 is established without any problem.

now the problem is when i sign out from that VM and also sign out from RD web page and this time login to RD web page via domain\user2 and i click on the collection name, i get this error:

 "there are no available computers in the pool. Try connecting again or contact your network administrator"

i checked out event viewer in my RDVH server and i founded this errors in event log:

Event ID 1296 : remote desktop connection client failed which getting redirection packet from connection broker.

user: mydomain\user1

error: element not found

after about 5 minutes or if i restart that windows 8.1 VM and i again click on collection, everything works OK.

because of this strange behavior, i haven't deployed it in my production network, because users can't connect to the VM which previous user was logged in till some minutes 

what is the problem ?

Same User Profile Disk is mounted in multiple Pooled Desktops

I have installed Server with Windows server 2012 R2 Datacenter and added RDS Roles(Virtualization Host). Created pooled collection with Some desktops. When i tried to connect multiple Desktops, sometimes same User profile disk is attached in different desktops. If anybody faced the same issue or know the reasons for this issue, please let me know

vdi infrastructure: how many vdi's are in use?

So i think the title would allready explain what i mean.

We have a vdi infrastructure, and i'm trying to find out how many vdi's are in use at any given moment.
However, i cannot find any reporting for that.
so for now the only way to see how many machines are in use is by looking at the console and look how many users are logged on there,

does anyone know of a report or tool that gives me the ability to see how many users are logged on at any given time?

Windows Server RPCSS service used all of my memory.

Hello.

My Windows Server is so slow and when I open it then it show me that "RPCSS" service use more than %80 of my Physical memory :

How can I solve it? I used Windows Server 2008 R2 and I can't change it.

Server 2016 Technical Preview 4 - profile disks not working?

I performed a fresh install of server 2016 tp4 and was excited to test the remotefx enhancements with pooled desktops. I setup a vanilla Windows 10 1511 template and sysprepped. I went through the wizard to configure the VDI pool and setup profile disks with the correct permissions (meaning I created a user profile disk share on a file server and gave full access to the server). I for the life of me cannot get profile disks working properly. Each time I log into a pooled desktop it creates a temp user profile. I have even started over from scratch, and reconfigured everything and profile disks do not work. Can someone else test this?

Remoteapp Publishing over GPO Server 2012 R2 Std & Windows 8 / 10 Pro

Hello Community,

I'm working on MS Remoteapp via Server 2012 R2. I want to Publish the Connection Via GPO to my Clients.

When I manuelly enter the URL via gpedit.msc everything works fine. 

But when i enter the URL in my GPO on my AD Server the clients don't get the URL. What's wrong here? What i have to do, that they get the URL?

Migrate Windows server 2000 TS licences to Windows 2012 R2 RDS licensing manager?

Hi all,

I have a client that is running an old Compaq ProLiant ML530 Server.

They are running Windows Server 2000 on it!!!
It is used as a TS license server.

Is it possible to migrate the licenses to a new server with Windows 2012 R2, without receiving any major disruption?

I can only find answers that it goes to a Windows Server 2008.

Would be nice to be able to help them before someone closes the door too hard. :)

What does one need for the most basic RDS environment?

Hi everybody, 

unfortunately I wasn't able to find a conclusive answer to my question yet and https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2833839 only got me so far.

I need to set up a fairly basic RDS environment in which eight users need to connect to a Windows Server in order to run a number of applications in a remote session. Remote desktop sessions would suffice, I do no intent on deploying virtualized desktops.

Since we have an extremely tight budget, I'm looking for the 'smallest' solution possible in terms of licensing cost and hardware. So far, I came to the conclusion that I would need to get one Windows Server 2012 Standard licence with 8 RDS CALs. Unfortunately there is no DC in the network as of now. Can such a RDS environment be deployed on one instance of Server 2012 Standard? Would it make sense to use Hyper-V in order two virtualize two servers and how could that setup look like?

After Changing Published FQDN we receive error in Web Access: unable to exchange policies

2012 RDS Setup

- 1 2012 Server with Gateway, Connection Broker, and Web Access roles on it

- 1 2012 Server acting as a Session Host

I was able to connect through Web Access to the desktop of the session host server. However, we receive a certificate error.

To fix the cert error we tried to change the published FQDN Name with the powershell command Script from TP/Microsoft: Set-RDPublishedName.ps1. This script worked and the FQDN name is changed, but the connection from Web Access doesn't work at all anymore. We are getting the error message "Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the Remote Desktop Gateway and the remote computer are unable to exchange policies...".

If I configure a RDP connection instead of going through Web Access I do not get this error.

Modify Office 2013 software installed on RDS servers

We currently have 3 RDS servers in production and all servers have Office 2013 installed. What we have found is that this software also has Lync (Skype for Business) and One Drive installed. We need to remove these applications from Office 2013.

My question is "Do we have to put the RDS servers in install mode before proceeding" or could we just make the change in the software w/o doing this first. We need to select "change" for Office 2013 and then select these 2 applications and mark as "not installed".

I know there are many documents about putting these servers into install mode when installing software, but there really isnt anything for uninstalling software on a RDS server

On-Screen Keyboard

Hi,

We are running several RDS 2012R2 servers and some users need to use the on-screen keyboard.
I've created a tile linked to OSK.exe and they can also use the search field on the right-hand side to type and search for OSK.

On all servers users will get the error: On-screen Keyboard does not work any more / Cannot start on-screen keyboard

When an administrator starts the osk it works fine.

How can we make sure users can use the OSK?
