User Profile Disks with Windows Search

We have 2 RDS Servers (2012R2) and work With User Profile Disks

We use outlook cached mode (Outlook 2013 SP1) because the link to our head office is to slow

The problem is that the outlook search isn't working properly.

Every time the users logs on, search indexes are recreated
This proces never finishes because the server is under a constant load, therefore search never works as it should.

In eventvwr, we see this error alot:

Crawl could not be completed on content source <winrt://{S-1-5-21-xxxxxxxxxxxx}/>.

Context:  Application, SystemIndex Catalog

NO ENOUGH STOARGE TO COMPLETE THIS OPERATION

Hi Sir,

we have window server r2 2012 standard but I am unable to do RDP.Its giving error NO ENOUGH storage TO COMPLETE THIS OPERATION. My ram is 12 GB and HDD is 600GB.  I am unable to do parallel access to this server from five different user account.

Please give your valuable solution as soon as possible.

Logged off users leaving orphaned processes, Getting black screen when reconnecting.

I have a terminal farm all 2012R2 boxes. All users are set to logoff after 5 minutes of activity via gpo (for both rd and ts apps)

A random set of users will  get a black screen the next time they connect. The only way to fix it is to find the winlogon.exe process that is tied to the user and end task then have the user login again. (you cannot disconnect these users using the logoff command or disconnect command from the collections manager gui)

I've applied https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2959626 to all terminal and broker servers. It didn't help.

Can't create self signed certificate for RD Gateway

I'm trying to set up an RD Connection Broker for RemoteApp, but I'm getting an error when I try to create a self signed cert for the RD Gateway:

The self-signed certificate has been successfully created, but RD Gateway cannot store the certificate in the directory C:\Users\myuserid\Documents. Please specify a different directory, and try again."

I tried other directories, all of which I have full rights to, but still no dice. I can't find anything with this error. Any idea how I can get past it?

FWIW, I have no problem logging into this server through RDP.

TEMP profiles in RDS 2012R2 environment with UPD's

Hi all,

Some time ago I opened this thread:

Since then I've made some changes in the GPO's, but this seemed to have the affect that a lot of users now get TEMP profiles in de RDS environment regularly.

The Event Viewer System logs show these messages:
Event ID 16: The access history in hive \??\C:\Users\USERNAME\ntuser.dat was cleared updating 2157 keys and creating 297 modified pages.
Event ID 16: The access history in hive \??\C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat was cleared updating 367 keys and creating 47 modified pages.

Also there are a lot of these events logged:
Event ID 20499: Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from serverboth DC's for user USERNAME

This leaves the User Profile Disk corrupt and the only way to resolve this is to restore the UPD from an earlier moment.

Any thoughts?
I see a lot of RDS logs and searching online give a lot of results (non-related) back.

Can a TS client find their disconnected session?

We use TS for our major software application.  We have 7 TS servers.  The TS environment/network can be a bit dodgy.  We have users getting kicked out of their TS sessions.  

What I would like to do is have the users who are booted from their TS sessions, reestablish their old session on the TS server which they were on previously.  This would allow them to go right back into the application and finish what they were working on.  

Is there a way to do this?

Server 2016 TP5 in RDS 2012r2 env.?

Hello. 

We have RDS 2012r2 enviroment with profile disks, and i was wondering, can we then create a new collection for one 2016 Technical Preview 5 server (RD Session host)? This is for testing purposes only.

Is there anything that i should be aware of? Like RDS Licensing (CAL) or something else?

We have only one enviroment and no lab where we can test things like this, so i dont want to mess up something..

Replace 2003 Terminal Server with 2012 RDS and keep same name, Can I rename after installing 2012 RDS?

I want to replace a production 2003 File Server that also has 15 Terminal Thin clients, with a 2012 RDS server.
And I need to keep the same name so that hundreds of devices and shortcuts still function afterwards.
This server has 139 printers and is active nearly 24-7, so I don't want to mess up.

My original plan was to create a new 2012 Server with a temporary name, and rename it after getting RDS to work and moving the files.
But after seeing how much more complex the new RDS setup is than the old Terminal Server, I'm thinking that is not going to be a smooth transition...?
So can anyone recommend a better way to do this, or am I on the correct path?

RDS 2012R2 - Can't publish applications

Published applications which are simple exe's (non MS installed apps) for unknown reasons now display the following error during the Publishing Wizard:

Failed: Could not create published application instance on the server <Collection broker name>

We have two RDCBs in HA

Rebooted both CBs and both the collect RDSHs, didn't resolve.

Calculator publishes fine and it's parameters can be amended - I've followed this thread to and re configured the all certs.

Publishing to a different collection is also fine and without error.

What can I check about the Collection?  It has been renamed.....

TS 2012 RDP with users computer pre-populated

I'm deploying a Server 2012 R2 RDS Collection and am looking to see if I can customize users profiles so when they login via RDS, they have the RDP icon published pre-loaded with their specific computer. Our users will not remember the name of their pc and this will generate tons of calls to the service desk. I'd like to have the mstsc.exe icon already with the name of their machine so they just click it and get logged on. Is there a way to do this on 2012?

Start RDS 2012 session with specific user command line (powershell)

Hi,

I need to debug with different users on RDS 2012 farm. Therefore I need to start with different users all the time the session.
Tried to do this with Start-Process 'c:\windows\temp\rdpfile.rdp'. This works, so created different rdp files.

However, when I try to change the credentials, it changes the credentials of all the rdp files to that specific credential.
Note that there is a broker, so I need to change the rdp file a bit: http://microsoftplatform.blogspot.be/2012/04/rd-connection-broker-ha-and-rdp.html

Even tried to remove the credentials in order to get a popup but then even it doesn't give a popup!

Please advise (howto connect with different users and their credentials to a RDS 2012 farm).

Move all RDS Services From Domain Controller to Virtual Machine in Windows Server 2012 r2 Environment

Hi Guys,

I am looking for any guideline as per subject line above.

Current Scenerio 

I have installed and Configured RDS and all its components on my Domain Controller running Windows Server 2012 r2. Everything runs ok, despite it is not recommended.

Current Issue

 1) Group Policy is not configured to secure Domain Controller

2) Leaves the DC Vunerable, as users can login and access resources directly on the Server

3) Might affect DC Performance when users access resources from it.

What I am trying to achieve

  •  To move all RDS and all its components to a Virtual Machine (Which is already prepared with Windows Server 2012 OS)
  • Isolate DC/AD and RDS Services

Questions

  • Can anyone give me a step by step guide to move current RDS and all its components from The DC (current host) to the new Virtual Machine (Hyper - V) running windows server 2012.
  • Good guide to create group policy to lock down users accessing the proposed RDS/Terminal Server

Otherwise - I will welcome other recommendations and option in solving my issues above.

Licensing applications on RDS 2012: user doesn't see shortcut, will he need a license?

Hi,

We currently deploy software to users on RDS 2012 but are thinking to publish to computers (the server itself), then hiding the shortcut for users who should not see the software:

License wise the application, if the user can't see it, we should not consider it as a license cost, right?
F.e. we have 3 users who use Visio on RDS, but 100 users can access the RDS servers. We can't pay for those 100 users.

I guess the same is done on Citrix installs, we would like to apply to same logic.

Could you refer to an official document?

RDP Settings When Connecting To Server 2012 Broker Server

I am setting up an RDP connection for a Windows CE 6.0 Scanner.  I'm trying to connect to an RDP Broker, we have a Term/App server that we need to be hitting, with connections passing through the Windows Broker/Load Balancing server to determine which server has the best connections.  As of right now the servers are using Server 2012, and the scanners (the devices that need to connect to the Broker) use Windows CE 6.0.

As of right now, I can remote into any server without issues, including the broker.  But by my understanding, when I hit the Broker and try to pass the connection from the broker to one of the App servers... the connection usually brakes.  The issue appears to be related to a field called, "signature!"  It's suppose to basically be a key (in this case I'm using a master key of sorts) to allow access to the server.  However RDP doesn't allow a connection with this field, reporting,"The file is corrupted".  In doing research, I have read that this field is only allowed on RDP 6.1 or higher and I believe CE 6.0 only allows RDP 6.0.  Though I am not sure.

If you can provide any help I would appreciate it.  I've included the relevant code in a pastebin link, with any hostname, server, and ip information removed from the Post.  As well as the possible offender (the signature field) removed from the link.  Thank you for the assistance, I greatly appreciate it:

NTbackup Fails if Terminal Connection exceeded

Hi,

I am facing an issue,like in 2003 server i am using NT backup is scheduled for night and at the same 2 different scheduled is also running with 2 different user name and password,  now what i have observed is my nt backup is failed. i am suspecting the its because of the terminal connection exceed the limits, now i need a clarification of related proof to confirm the same.

Dependency on backend session host server to run gateway farm

Hi,

Environment.

  1. 2x RDG Servers with WebApp role installed
  2. 2012 R2 SERVER01.domain.local - 1x Server with Connection Broker, Session host and WebApp - 2012 R2
  3. SERVER02.domain.local - 1x Server with Connection Broker, Session host and Web Access - 2008 R2

We had an issue with SERVER01 at the weekend and while it was offline, noone could access the gateway servers at all, coming up with an error "there is a problem connecting to the gateway server". It didnt matter what resource they connected to through the gateway, the message was the same.

I want the people to be able to use the gateway servers independently of any other servers in the environment. Have I set things up wrong or is there a problem here?

There is random times that it won't remote in. I'v been trying to figure it out for over a week now. The router is setup properly with port forwarding. Any ideas?

We have RDS 2012 R2 that consist of;
- 3 RDS Session Host 2012 R2 (rds01.contoso.com, rds02.contoso.com, rds03.contoso.com)
- 2 HA RDS Session Brokers (rdsbroker01.contoso.com, rdsbroker02.contoso.com, HA name = rdsbroker.contoso.com)
- 2 HA RDS Web Access (rdswa01.contoso.com, rdswa02.contoso.com, HA = rdswa.contoso.com)

We create a session collection "remoteapplications" 
HA DNS round robin name = rdsbroker.contoso.com
Trusted 3rd party certificate (*.contoso.com)
No gateway
User Group = Domain Users
Security Settings = Negotiate & Client Compatible
Client settings = no redirection
No User Profile Disk

We configured SSO for domain joined machines as per "http://www.rdsgurus.com/ssl-certificates/windows-2012-r2-how-to-create-a-mostly-seamless-logon-experience-for-your-remote-desktop-services-environment/"
So the GPO's for 
Delegate credentials
SHA1 for rdp file sign
Editted web.config/authentication for the Remote Web Access Server

So SSO is working we start the IE goto rdswa.contoso.com and start the remote app and get the application
But when we login with 6 users we start the IE goto rdswa.contoso.com and start the remote app but most users get the application.
Some users get error "The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login"

I've checked and the "domain users" is member of the local remote desktop users on all RDS Session Host.
Also this error is not consistent received on the same workstation or for the same user it's at random, so it cannot be a user or workstation problem.
Next to this we drained RDS Session Host server leaving 1 RDS Session Host and same problem occurs for some random user. 
We drained this 1 RDS Sessions Host and enabled another one and exact same issue for another random users.
