RemoteFX event log

Hi all,

we have a server 2012 R2, and created a VM of win7(enable remotefx) with rdp8.0 and rdp8.1 udpates.

when we connect to win7, we see the button of Shut down with Start menu, and the aero flip 3D works,

but there is no remotefx event 1000 or 1001 in RemoteDesktopServices-RemoteDesktopSession Manager.

we refer to this website https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff817580(v=ws.10).aspx.

How do we check which protocol we are running when we establish the connect to win7?(rdp7.0, rdp7.1 or rdp8?)

Thanks,

Derek

Dependency on backend session host server to run gateway farm

Hi,

Environment.

  1. 2x RDG Servers with WebApp role installed
  2. 2012 R2 SERVER01.domain.local - 1x Server with Connection Broker, Session host and WebApp - 2012 R2
  3. SERVER02.domain.local - 1x Server with Connection Broker, Session host and Web Access - 2008 R2

We had an issue with SERVER01 at the weekend and while it was offline, noone could access the gateway servers at all, coming up with an error "there is a problem connecting to the gateway server". It didnt matter what resource they connected to through the gateway, the message was the same.

I want the people to be able to use the gateway servers independently of any other servers in the environment. Have I set things up wrong or is there a problem here?

Thanks a lot, Brendan

Smartcard authentication fails using third-party DNS

I'm configuring smartcard logon via RDP on domain controllers and have everything working from inside the network but as soon as I try from a VPN connection it fails with the NLA error

The remote computer that you are trying to connect to requires Network Level Authentication (NLA), but your Windows domain controller cannot be contacted to perform NLA. If you are an administrator on the remote computer, you can disable NLA by using the options on the Remote tab of the System Properties dialog box.

From the VPN connection:

  • If I authenticate with username/password, I can connect.
  • If I authenticate with smart card, I get NLA error.

This is a test domain so it’s not resolvable by our normal DNS servers (the ones that are assigned to my VPN adapter). However, if I change my VPN adapter’s DNS to those of the test domain then smart card authentication works.

It’s weird because NLA should be enabled for both username/password and smartcard but when I’m using a foreign DNS server only username/password authenticates.

I’m pretty sure I have the certificates and smartcard configured correctly but a second set of eyes are welcome.

  • The domain’s root certificate is loaded in the NTAUTH store on the client.
  • The domain’s root certificate is loaded on the smartcard.
  • The DC has a valid Kerberos certificate.
  • The root cert is published to the enterprise store in the domain
  • All certificates pass a validation check (certutil verify)
  • The DC’s certificates pass validation from certutil –dcinfo
  • The UPN of the smartcard user cert is user@fqdn

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

in which step RD licensing server is contacted

Hello

i need to know in a windows server 2012R2 VDI deployment, the exact step that the RD licensing server is contacted and verified ?

for example imaging a user want to connect to a virtual desktop located on RDVH1.

user ---> RDweb ---> RDCB ---> (RDSH1+RDVH1) (on one server)

whether RDweb or RDCB servers has any thing to do with RD licensing server ?

is it correct to say that only RDSH will contact RD licensing server ?

thanks in advanced

RDWeb apps keep appearing as RDP files.

Hi All,

Currently have a server 2008 r2 machine running rdsh & rdweb services (no broker or gateway installed).

I recently started customizing our RDWeb page - a few changes i made were to remove the remote desktop access option from the rdweb menu (showdesktop from true to false), comment out the help link once logged into rdweb and added in compatibility options for IE when viewing RDWeb on IE11 - X-UA-Compatible IE=9.

Once i did these i then tried publishing some apps using the App Manager, however now when i publish any apps, as shown in the pictures, they seem to appear as RDP icons even when i dont have any custom RDP options set. I also seem to get 'The Remote computer could not be found' even when executing both the 'paint' file or the custom rdp files i created.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Server 2012 R2 no longer serving Remote Connection web page after April 2016 update

We have a Server 2012 install with Remote Web Desktop services enabled. Prior to the April 2016 update, users were able to go to the server's address on the internet, and were provided with a landing page where they could login, then either look at file shares, or connect to a desktop PC.

After the update, users are now presented with a dialog box that says 'The server is asking for your user name and password. The server reports that it is from Digest." The user name and password is accepted, but that's followed with "webpage cannot be found."

I've tried redeploying the remote desktop services, doublechecked the bindings in IIS, doublechecked the permissions in \Windows Server\bin\WebApps, and I can't quite figure out where to go from here.

Anybody else run into this? And how can I restore the old web desktop services?

Thanks

Adding user profile disks to existing collection

$

If I modify the properties of an existing collection to specify the location for user profile disks, what happens to the profiles that have already been created on my session host? Will some/all of the data get migrated, or will users start over with new profiles, or will the user profile disks only be created for new users who don't yet have profiles, or none of the above?

Hi All,

for a proof of concept i would like to Build an RDS Farm 2012 R2 that is accessible from the outside. But only when logging in on the RDSWeb. So to get access outside i installed a RD Gateway. But now it is possible to login through servers behind the gateway without loggin in to the RDWeb. Is it possible to disable this?.

Thanks in advance

Network Load Balancing and RD Connection Broker

$

I have a Dell VRTX server with 2 blades. Each blade has 2 hyperV VMs running on them consisting of - 1xDC, 1xFile/Print, 2xTerminal Servers.

The terminal servers are running Windows Server 2008 R2.

I have setup network load balancing and rd connection broker.

The problem I have is when I connect via my NLB IP it goes in fine, if I disconnect the session and try and connect again via NLB IP it might reconnect me to the same TS again or if it tries to connect to the other TS it times out. I thought this should redirect to the disconnected TS session? This is a problem as I don't want users repeatedly trying to login until it tries to connect them to the TS they had the disconnected session on.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Save As dialog box does not show file list

Terminal Server 2012 R2.  'Save As' dialog box for one user does not show the file list.  The address bar shows the path, and there is a form box for the file name, and the user can save the file successfully.  But the space that should show the files in the chosen directory is blank.  There is no form box for the file list, it is simply the dialog box gray space -- which is to say, it's not that it looks like an empty folder, there is simply no form box displayed.

The 'Open' dialog box looks normal, showing the file list in the chosen folder.

I had the user log off of the Terminal Server and access it from a different PC, though I didn't expect that to make a difference, and it didn't.  I also logged on myself, and did not experience the same issue.  So it appears to be user-specific.

Is this a setting the user accidentally selected, or an error of some sort?

Thanks for any help.

RDS Copy and paste not working between workstation and RDS host

We have an Windows 2012 R2 RDS farm that will not let users copy and paste from their workstation to the RDS hosts. I have group policy set to allow copy and paste, I have the RDS farm policy set to allow as well. I configured the registry to allow copy and paste is set to allow. I can copy text, but not files from a workstation to a RDS host. I can copy and paste files from one RDS host to another. Our users connect via the RDS gateway page. I tried to launch the RDS file and that did not work either. Thanks for any help.

User Profile Disks with Server 2008 R2

I know Server 2012 added User Profile Disks for Remote Desktop Services. Does anyone know of a way of making them work with Server 2008 R2? Or a similar solution that can be applied to 2008 R2? Something other than Roaming profiles and Folder Redirection.

Start RDS 2012 session with specific user command line (powershell)

Hi,

I need to debug with different users on RDS 2012 farm. Therefore I need to start with different users all the time the session.
Tried to do this with Start-Process 'c:\windows\temp\rdpfile.rdp'. This works, so created different rdp files.

However, when I try to change the credentials, it changes the credentials of all the rdp files to that specific credential.
Note that there is a broker, so I need to change the rdp file a bit: http://microsoftplatform.blogspot.be/2012/04/rd-connection-broker-ha-and-rdp.html

Even tried to remove the credentials in order to get a popup but then even it doesn't give a popup!

Please advise (howto connect with different users and their credentials to a RDS 2012 farm).
J.

Intial App Launch shows logon screen

The initial launch of an app shows a logon screen with

title: Waiting for remoteapp programs to start

Showing our logon banner, and then loading profile etc...is there a way to not show this to each user on the initial app launch?

Edit: We are using Windows 2012 R2 for the gateway and host

2012R2 Users login then are immediately disconnected

I have a server 2012R2 server with the Session host role installed.  Licensing is working, I have verified that with the tool.

Users who are local admins can login, but any other users login and then immediately are disconnected.   It gets to the point of loading the profile and then drops the connection.  I can't find anything in the logs, it acts like the users never even tried to login.

Any thoughts?

Restricting access on an application

Hi,

I have an application "A" installed on a Windows 2008 server which is configured as a Terminal server but not published the application "A" as a remote app.

Here my question is who ever has rights on that server logs in open the application "A" automatically. Now I want to restrict that application "A" to be open by certain users only. I tried to restrict the permissions on the application"A" configuration folders which are in Program files but not happy with it. Any ideas please?? Thanks.

Change expired passwords on an RDS environment

$

Our company just set up a new Windows 2008R2 RDS environment (Gateway/Broker/Host all 2k8R2) and we ran into "cannot change expired or first login passwords" issue.

We have 400+ users who run our app over remoteapp and our "old" environment was a straightforward remoteapp to a single server and changing expired passwords was allowed. Now, with the RDS Gateway in between the client and the host server, changing passwords is disabled.

Is there an option, group policy setting or something that can be adjusted to allow password changing??

I know about the RDWeb hot fix and i'm aware of the 3rd party solutions but i would like to know is there anything that can be done without those workarounds?

Thank you very much.

Cannot log off or reset a user's session from Remote Desktop Services Manager

Server 2008 R2 - fully patched - Running Remote Desktop services

We regularly have Remote Desktop users whose sessions become hung and will not logoff.

I found a thread (which I cannot link to) but the "Answer" does not work.

Any running processes will not stop, I tried the Task Manager, Remote Desktop Manager, Powershell commands, DOS commands, etc.

Is there a fix for this?
