Access is Denied - Remote Desktop

$

I have set up my Server (2008 R2 Foundation) for remote desktop and RemoteApp as per the instructions provided by Microsoft.  I am using a single server for all functions.  When a user logs in to the Server through remote desktop, the remote desktop screen comes up and then the user immediately gets an 'Access is Denied' message.  If the user connects through RDWeb, the RemoteApps are displayed, but when the user clicks on an application, they are prompted again for their login credentials and then they get the remote desktop screen with an 'Access is Denied' screen as well.  This happens even for Administrators.

I am getting very frustrated with this as I have read many blogs and tried everything to no avail.  PLEASE help me.

Windows Server 2012 RDS per user CAL license - exceeded

Hi,

Today we have installed RDS license in terminal server (windows server 2012 r2) over telephone. We purchased 5 licenses for windows server 2012 RDS per User CAL. We have tested the RD licenses with 3 domain accounts and we were able to do RDP of this license server. 3 licenses are issued and 2 more available now. There are 4 more domain users are logged in to this server and the RDS licenses exceeded the limit what we have purchased, which means that total 7 licenses are issued and no available licenses to be issue. PFA the screenshot for your ref.

But i couldn't revoke certificate for that 3 domain user where we used for testing purpose because the option is grayed out. I am wondering that we have purchased 5 quantity but licenses issued count is 7. Should we need to pay extra if the issued licenses exceeded the limits. Can you briefly explain how the RDS license works and my requirement is that the project team wants 5 (RDP) concurrent sessions of the server, hence we have purchased 5 CAL per User licenses. does it make sense? or should we need to purchase CAL per device licenses.

In future we may need more concurrent RDP sessions to the different server. In this case what kind of license we need to procure either per User or per device.

Thanks,

Vijay

RemoteApp Data traffic with local application

Hi,

I had a query in Remote App. I am doing some testing of the RemoteApp applications.

In the testing I was using a remote app rdp file to play a video from a file share in the target machine. In this case  I didnt have any media player in the test machine from where I ran the rdp file. It worked and the media player started playing the video in the remoteapp window.

So my question is will it make any difference in the data traffic if I have a media player installed in the test machine? in that case will the rendering of video happen in the remoteapp target? Or will the target machine act as a proxy and the actual rendering of video take place in the test machine?Note that both the test server and remoteapp target can access the media file share.

In other words, I would like to know the traffic flow here. is it a file copy or media streaming?

RDP Fails - User not allowed to logon at this computer

Hello,

A domain account is used to log onto a machine, more or less a service account.  As of late, RDP to the server using this account fails.  Console logons using the account are fine.

The user is a member of the local rdp group.  In AD the machine account is listed under the "Logon To" of the user account.  If I set the "Logon To" for the user account to all computers, the account can rdp to the target server.  My only thought is that machine account is not matching what is expcect for the machine name but I have checked and re-checked the machine name.  Used "hostname", ping -a to the IP, and checked the computer properties in the target server for the name, they all agree with the name I'm listing under the logon to for the user account. It is still rejected.  I've provided the security log for review.  I attempted to provide the fqd for the server name, but found the field was limited to 16 chars.

Thank you for your help!

Session Broker Drain Mode Problems.

Hi Technet.

I have a small problem with a all 2008 R2 environment.

We have a large farm and a small farm for a selected group of customers.

On the large farm the load balancing works fine. Every servers gets its share of users (about 30-50 each day) and if a server is put into drain mode the current connection get removed and diverted to other servers once they Logoff and Login again.

However on the small farm (only 2 servers) once server TS-01 gets put into Drain Mode (User Logon Mode = Allow reconnections, but prevent new logons) some users still connect to the same server and get a "Server Refused Login" while other users that have previously connected to TS-02 get directed there and are able to connect. Users connect to a NLB DNS name through our Gateway server on both farms with different DNS names.

The farms both use the same Connection Broker at SB-02. SB-02 is located on the root domain along with the large farm but the small farm is located on a child domain. Both farms seem to have identical GPO´s for their settings. Checking the event logs on both the large/small farm give errors at Microsoft/Windows/TerminalServices-SessionBroker-Client/Admin.

The error is a 1280 Remote Desktop Services failed to join the Connection Broker on server SB-02 HRESULT = 0x88150003

Any ideas on what could possibly be the problem?

Can windows remote apps be load balanced ?

Hi there

We are using the windows remote desktop services [Remote App Programs] in azure.

And publish our desktop clients software, it uses port 443 - https://localhost/RDWeb/

We want to install our application in 2 servers and do load balancing - Terminal services load balancing

My questions

1) Is it possible to with the ARD load balancers? If so which one is the best option (internet or internal)

2) Is it recommended to load balance the remote apps?

Thanks

RemoteApp public anonymous access

We need to set something up as a public demo for any internet user. Maybe limiting it to five, something like a 5 floating license; so the first user (no login or password needed) automatically gets a seat, etc.

Remote Desktop Services is currently busy

This was a well-known issue with Server 2008 R2 however I cannot find a fix for Server 2012 R2 (which is what we are running. This is a random issue where a user will get the following error when trying to launch any remote app or desktop:

"The task you are trying to do can't be completed because Remote Desktop Services is currently busy. Please try again in a few minutes. Other users should still be able to log on."

Affects random users who were previously having no issues. I do not see any process for the users, no disconnected sessions, etc. Occurs when trying to launch a desktop or a remote app. Occurs whether going through RDWeb or through the control panel applets.

This happens to clients running Windows 7 Professional or Windows 8.1 Professional.

Server 2012 RDS - User Profile Disks - Errors during Logoff

$

I have set up a test Server 2012 RDS collection (Single Server for now) and implemented User Profile disks.

I have two problems.

First: My generic test user can connect and does successfully use the user profile disk as expected. However, atlogoff, the system event log contains these errors:

The error (NTFS 137) is: The default transaction resource manager on volume C:\Users\ts3.test encountered a non-retryable error and could not start.  The data contains the error code.

The warning (NTFS 50) that concerns me is:

It appears that the user profile disk is being "disabled" or "disconnected" before the profile data is completely written at logoff. What can I do to troubleshoot this?

Second:

Update: A post from Mike Connor on the following page: -LINK- solved the problem described below.

My administrative user always logs on now with a temporary profile. At the beginning, the UPD was working and mounting. That stopped working. In attempting to troubleshoot, I logged the admin user off and deleted the UPD disk file from the share. I remember it working again after generating a new UPD disk file in the share. Soon, it quit working again. I deleted the UPD disk file again from the share and ever since, it has never regenerated a new UPD andalways logs on with a temporary profile.

RDWeb / Remote App - Internet Access Issues

$

Hi all,

We are doing a proof of concept in regards to RD services and have set up a 2012 R2 server with RDWeb and RemoteApp. All works fine and as expected from the internal LAN. Connecting from the internet works to a point;

- you can get to the RD Web Access page and login successfully

- you can see all RemoteApp icons

- launch the app and you get the RemoteApp caution box and Options

Network Breakdown:    Internet  <--> RD Access / RD Gateway / Broker <--> RD Server

RD server internal name is: testterm02.contoso.com

I also have a wildcard cert that covers all the servers in the domain.

I have my suspicions that when your accessing it from the internet it at some point it tries to either access the server via its internal name which of course doesn't resolve on the internet or its trying to use its public name which the server can't handle.

Any ideas?

Server 2012 R2 as a DC. We had unauthorized teamviewer access and now we have 0 bytes of 831GB available on the C drive. I have cleaned the drive up some and freed up 21GB. I have searched for size:gigantic and don't see anything bigger than a 2.2GB PST in an old backup folder. How do i go about finding what is taking up the space on the c drive?

Configure RDS with VDI

Hi all,

I am following this guide, i am wanting to configure RDP with VDI in my home lab.

http://blogs.technet.com/b/canitpro/archive/2013/04/25/step-by-step-deploying-virtual-desktops-with-windows-server-2012.aspx

Is this going to be possible with just one physical server?

I have one Dell T110 with Xeon CPUs, server 2012 r2 and the hyper-v role installed.

I have a feeling i am going to need another physical server?

Any help would be great!

Thanks

Profile disks being locked up-

Hi

We have a server farm of 2012r2 terminal servers and a connection broker. Everything has been working fine till today when one of the four terminal servers has locked up the profile disks of users and they havent been copied back to the share on the connection broker. Users then log in again and get another server and because there profile is locked up on another server get a temporary profile. I have tried disconnecting the the drives in disk management but this has not helped

I will restart all servers tonight but if anyone knows how to fix this on the fly would be good

In the past I have just logged into the effected server directly as the user then logged out to release the profile but this is not working

Troubleshooting tips regarding users' downloads from cloud services

$

When users in a customer's environment download folders (ziped) the download usually hangs before the download is finished, and then nothing happens. This almost always happens with Dropbox, never with OneDrive according to my tests. Unfortunately, the same happens with some other web based downloading solutions to ("cloud") too, from other providers.

There are no error messages in browser or Event Viewer. (It doesn't matter which browser one uses.) To see if the firewall was the culprit, I temporarily disabled all policies regarding content filtering and site blocking, but that did not make any difference. The firewall log does not indicate that that is the culprit, either. The Windows firewall is disabled.

It cannot be a size restriction, since I can download the same data from OneDrive that I cannot download from Dropbox; also it cannot be a browser problem. It isn't an exclusive Dropbox problem either, since other providers' solutions doesn't work either (at least not all of the times, the problem seems to be a little on and off.)

I'm stumped. Where to look? - It is a Windows Server 2012 R2, RDS server, with some 20 users. The internet connection is fine.

Any tips?

Can you help me to resolved this error.

Pinning shortcuts to redirected start menu

$

I have looked through numerous threads which show how to pin a program to the start menu on server 2008 r2 through changing the registry etc and applying the gpo for shortcuts however none of these seem to work on our TS environment.

As our users have a redirected start menu, what would be the best way about doing this as currently any user that logins has to click on 'all programs' instead of the shortcuts appearing on the start menu itself.

Thanks.

RDC manager - HA redirects connection target

$

Hi All

We have multiple RDSH servers in HA and working a treat, however for admin purposes we use RDC Manager, but note when connecting to an HA RDSH server it will often redirect to another HA server in the same Collection/Pool (assuming based on the Connection Broker's decision somehow).

As an admin this is very undesirable as it's not clear which server you're connected too, and you cannot specify the exact target server.

How can RDC Manager be configured to ignore the redirection, such that if I RDC to a specific server name, that server becomes the target?
