Accessing RemoteApps from Computer outside of the LAN

Alright, so I've recently just setup my own RD Web Access and RD Session Host servers. I published some RemoteApps and set up the RD Web Access server to where there is no issues in connectivity when accessing it through its own LAN. My predicament is being able to access the published RemoteApps from another computer that's outside the network. Here's what happens when trying to access the RemoteApps from an outside network:

I can connect to the RD Web Access server, but I have to use this subdomain that I created for remoting into this computer. So, let's say I port forwarded and set up for my external IP to be recognized by the internet as chickens.lovelybusiness.net where"chicken" is my subdomain. That's what I would put into remote desktop connection in order to connect to the computer. Now, I set up the RD Web Access server and the RD Session Host server on the same computer as the computer that's recognized as chickens.lovelybusiness.net. Now, all I should have to do after setting up the servers is just type in computername.chickens.lovelybusiness.net. However, if I type that in, nothing comes up, but if I just type in the chickens.lovelybusiness.net,I can login to the server and see the apps.

Next is the thing that puzzles me, I can see and download the RemoteApps just fine, but as soon as I try to run them, this error pops up.

But, if I go into notepad, open the rdp session I just downloaded to run the app and change the workspace ID and the full address to my external IP address, this error pops up in its place.

Now, I enabled remote connections to all the servers just in case without them needing NLA just to see if that would cause a problem. I also open ports 443, 3389, 80, 49152, and 53 opened so I know that isn't the problem. But as of right now, I'm stumped. All I want to accomplish is to be able to access the published RemoteApps from outside that network.

Any answers or advice would be HIGHLY appreciated.

Time Zone error message

Hello

We are experiencing an issue with our Win 2012 R2 RDS setup.  We are using this to run Dynamics NAV for a number of locations.  Just adding our Sweden location but we are having a problem with Swedish users when trying to switch databases.  They receive the following error message:

'The time zone with ID 'vasteuropa, normaltid' was not recognised on the server.  Update your computers time zone definitions'

We had exactly the same issue with our 2008 RDS system and the following hotfix resolved the issue:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2870165

The hotfix does not mention Win 2012 and I could not find anything for 2012.  Should I use the same hotfix for 2012?

Has anybody experienced this issue and have a solution?

Thanks

Nick

Manage RDS Farm without admin rights

Hi all,

I've wrote a powershell script for my devs. With this script, they can logout all users using their application and after execute the patching of the applications.

The problem is that my devs don't have admin rights. They are simple user.

In my script, I use the Get-RDUserSession, Send-RDUserMessage, Invoke-RDUserLogoff, but without admin rights .... it's bullshit.

How can i delegate the right to use this cmdlet to use the script ?

I've found this topic with the same problem but no solution : https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/ada13337-0917-4423-9373-08f85abddb23/nonadmin-users-are-unable-to-manage-rds-2012-r2-sessions?forum=winserverTS

My farm is in 2012r2, 10 RDSH, 2 HA Broker, all roles are splitted on differents virtual server.

Thank you !

External Users with same network range ip can't access RD Host through Remote Desktop Gateway

Hello,

I've setup a brand new Windows 2012 R2 server with all the remote desktop services on it (Remote Desktop Gateway, Remote Web Server, Remote Deskop Host & Broker).

The server is on local network behing a router/firewall (single public ip :-( ).

I've got a public certificate on it and NAT is setup on router to redirect tcp 444  to the server internal ip (192.168.0.XXX). I've changed the SSL port from RD Gateway but it was tested with the default SSL port (443) an result was same.

My problem is that client can successfully connect on this server from anywhere locallly and externally (and it works great) except when clients connect from a network that have an identical ip range as the RD server (192.168.0.---). In this case, after first authentication it's seems that client can't reach internal RD server. This is true for Remote Desktop Website (i can log on page but the differents apps will not connect when it tries to reach the RD server) and this is also true for"mstsc" with remote desktop Gateway definied.

I can't find anything revelant in server or client logs and it starts to make me crazy...

It looks like there is a routing trouble when client and server try to communicate and maybe client believe server must be reached locally and bypass the remote gateway because they are on same subnet but not on the same physical network. However it can't be the right way to work of remote gateway...

Thanx in advance for your help (and sorry for my English)

Vince

RDS Gateway - Could not connect to resource

My RDS GW is in DMZ (192.168.255.x) and my RDS Hosts are in internal network (172.23.1.x)

Sometimes, the Gw try to connect with the RDS Hosts by name and other times by their internal IP address.

When the GW try to connect with internal IP address, obsviously, it gets an error to connect.
The user "ad\username1", on client computer "x.x.x.4",
met connection authorization policy and resource authorization policy requirements,
but could not connect to resource "172.23.1.x". The following error occurred: "23005".

When teh GW try to connect by the name, it WORKS!!
The user "ad\username2", on client computer "x.x.x.4",
met resource authorization policy requirements and was therefore authorized to
connect to resource "rds.xpto.com".

I dont know how it gets the internal RDS host IP!!!

My RDP file is setup with rdsgw.xpto.com for the gateway and rds.xpto.com to the RDS Host.

There is no IP configured in the RDP file!

nslookup rds.xpto.com   -> ip: 192.168.255.x  (there is a NAT to internal RDS Host)

Why does the GW sometimes try to connect by name and other times by IP????

Any help is welcome!!

Cannot connect to Windows 10 VM since Windows 10 Host Update

26 Jan 2016: I have just rebooted to install the latest updates to Windows 10 Pro. I am running 2 Windows 10 VM's in HyperV. Since rebooting I can connect to 1 of the VM's (using virtual machine connection and mstsc) but I cannot connect to the other. The vmc or mstsc connection starts but after I enter my credentials it drops the connection. I have no way of changing any operating system settings of the Windows 10 VM as I have no way to connect to it. My credentials are correct as I can establish an SMB session. According to HyperV, Win10VM is running fine. Heartbeat fine. Applications healthy. Any ideas?

Hello MSDN/Remote Desktop Services Team,

Good day. We used UPD for remote desktop services but it is slow in re-directing folders, user profile and even opening an excel file stored in local machine. May we ask for advise on how to enhance the UPD performance?

Current Set-up: RDS/RemoteApp on Windows 2012 R2

Please advise.

Thanks,

Can't run remoteapp

I'm running all server 2012 R2 servers. I have the licensing on a domain controller and web, connection broker and Gateway on a member server. We had a problem with a virus so the former licensing server had to be replaced. It's taken alot of configuration, but I have almost everything back working. I can go to RD Web and connect to a computer on the network just fine. However, if I try to run a remoteapp, I get a message that the remote computer could not be found. I'm not sure if this is just something misconfigured or if it could be a dns issue. What server is the error referring to? When I click a remoteapp on the RD web page, what should be the role that is contacted?

Server 2012 R2 RDS Profile Synchronization Problems and IMAP Outlook Configurations

$

We are running a terminal server farm using round robin DNS. Users login to three different terminal servers. Out of about 60 users we have about 5 of them currently that use IMAP accounts in Outlook 2013 that are experiencing extreme delay in receiving emails. They will randomly receive about 17 emails at once; some of which have a received date from the day before... they do not have an Exchange server on premises as they use a hosted mail service. At the same time these users can receive email correctly fine on their local workstations. But when using the terminal servers this problem re-occurs.

We have reset passwords, re-created the Outlook profiles, all kinds of things. Has anyone noticed delayed receipt of emails when using IMAP in a terminal server environment? Anyone know of any fixes?

Also I notice that the RDS profiles have lots of glitches (I create a few shortcuts on one server log off and log onto another server in the farm and the same icons I created on server1 do not show up on server2 or server3..... ) Does anyone have anything to troubleshoot this synchronization behavior? I have this same behavior happening with another completely separate environment and would like a better understanding as the only setting in AD is in the users profile settings under the "Remote Desktop Services Profile" tab > Profile Path and the RDS Desktop Services Home Folder (Connect (drive letter)) > paths....

Since there isn't much to it... I don't understand why if the settings are correct in their RDS profiles settings and the permissions are correct for their profile paths the synchronization of shortcuts / settings aren't working for some users and ok for others?

Thanks in advance!

Does Gateway working as RRAS or not

I have

domain 100.0.0.1  gateway

dns 100.0.0.10

Router gateway 100.0.0.254  ( here internet is comming from and internal

IPs and external IPs are defined )

I have RRAS server which give me Internet  100.0.0.20   which route Internet from 100.0.0.254 to the gateway 100.0.0.1

I have also RDS 100.0.0.120  server which added to domain gateway 100.0.0.1

How external users can see the routing table in 100.0.0.254 and login to my RDS  . Do I need any routing issue in the RDS ..means to connect to

100.0.0.1 and 100.0.0.254 at the same time to see the external ip

Unable to login to Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2 servers with Network Level Authentication enabled

Hi,

I have servers running Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2.  When I enable Network Level authentication on those servers I'm unable to RDP to them with a domain account.  Local accounts and domain admin accounts work though.  I get the error message "The Local Security Authority cannot be contacted.  This could be due to an expiring password."  The password is not expired or being forced to change.  If I disable NLA I can login without any issues.

Any ideas?

When users login to RDS by clicking on an app in the published portal it takes 2 - 3 minutes for the app to launch.

After the initial app launching any other app will launch immediately when you click on it.

Does anyone have any ideas?
