We have a dot matrix printer that worked properly with Windows 7, but now that I have updated to Windows 10 it will not print. I have tried all I know and so has our IT guy. I was looking at purchasing a new one and didn't know if the Epson LQ-590 Dot Matrix is compatible with Windows 10? Do you have any suggestions? What is the latest Dot Matrix printer? Thank you.

Time Zone error message

Hello

We are experiencing an issue with our Win 2012 R2 RDS setup.  We are using this to run Dynamics NAV for a number of locations.  Just adding our Sweden location but we are having a problem with Swedish users when trying to switch databases.  They receive the following error message:

'The time zone with ID 'vasteuropa, normaltid' was not recognised on the server.  Update your computers time zone definitions'

We had exactly the same issue with our 2008 RDS system and the following hotfix resolved the issue:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2870165

The hotfix does not mention Win 2012 and I could not find anything for 2012.  Should I use the same hotfix for 2012?

Has anybody experienced this issue and have a solution?

Thanks

Nick

RDS Licenses available not being issued to new users

Hello,

I have a WIndows Server 2012 STD with Remote Destop Services configured.

RD Licensing Role - Host1

RD Session Host - RDS1

RD Session Host - RDS2

RD Connection Broker - Host2

RD Gateway - Host2

RD Web Access Host2

I have 25 per User CALs. My report shows 28 Issued, but my Licensing manager shows 5 available. Also 3 Users do not seem to have a license issue, because they don't show up in the listing.

Why are there 5 licenses available but not being issued?

Windows 2008 RDS License server in domain while application servers in a workgroup

Hello.  I have a client with a Windows 2008 R2 RDS License server in a domain, while the RDS application servers are in a workgroup.  The client claims that the Windows 2003 Terminal Servers can access the license server just fine, but the Windows 2008 servers cannot contact the license server.

An error is returned: "RD Licensing Manager could not connect to the license server.  Check the following: 1. The Remote Desktop Licensing service is started on the license server. 2. Your credentials have sufficient privileges on the license server."

It does not seem likely that this would work, since according to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2473823,the servers either need to both be in the same workgroup, or the same domain, or in two different domains with a two way trust.

Is there a way to get Windows 2008 R2 RDS servers in a workgroup to accept licenses from an RDS license server on a domain?  Why would this work for Windows 2003 servers in a workgroup?  Could there be another issue altogether, like, what ports need to be opened between the servers?

I appreciate any help you can provide on this topic.

Thank you,

John

Server 2012 R2 RDS Licensing

I'm trying to configure Windows 2012 R2 Session Host to look for RDS CALs on the dedicated Windows 2012 R2 license server on the network. I just do not have the tool to do so on this new version of Windows. I would like to manually configure this. In Windows 2008 R2, I was able to do this using the RD Session Host Configuration. Any thought?

RDS 2008R2 Mandatory Profiles Recycle.BIN

Hello,

i had few weeks ago started an topic, but it seems it was not clear formulated.

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/be0b00f5-5782-470b-a928-a6d294da76b6/recycle-bin-on-redirected-folders-show-no-files-when-delete-some-files-but-they-are-in-there

So i have an RDS 2008R2 enviroment with mandatory profiles. User folders a simple redirected with GPO, not a special thing i think.

Like: AppData, Pictures and so on to \\domain.internal\dfs\users\%USERNAME%\[...Foldername...]

So when the RDS user deletes files in "My documents", they are moved to Recycle.BIN. But they are for the user not visible. the Folder icon also changes if the Recycle.Bin folder is empty or not.

When i take a look into the Recycle.Bin folder(s) as an Administrator with "dir /s W:\users\USERNAME\$RECYCLE.BIN" it shows items in the folder.

To make it clear: I DON'T want to clean up the folder or something else, i want access to the delete files in the dumpster.

Thanks in advance,

best regards,

Henry

Remote Desktop Redirected Printer documents keep spooling whenever an RDP connection is opened.

As soon as an RDP connection is made the spooler starts getting bogus jobs called "Remote Desktop Redirected Printer.doc"
I say bogus because they don't print anything.. they simply show up on the spooler and after a few seconds dissapears but nothing prints.. this keeps hapenning as long as the RDP connection is active.
altough anoying this doesn't seem to be an issue if the printer is online, but offline printers keep increasing the list.. Just deleted over 24k pending documents..
Unnaceptable.
Altough I've seen numerous forums with users with the problem, I haven't found a solution yet.. From Microsoft or anyone at all.
Clearing the checkmark for the printers option from the RDP options clears the problem but that's not an acceptable solution since I need to print.
I'm RDPing fom a WinXP machine to a Win2003 Server.

RD Connection Broker not working

$

I have a client who we built an RDS environment for.  When this was built originally it was all working as expected.  Something has changed in the past year and a half (which no one there seems to know what changed) and now the setup isn't working as expected.

There are 8 servers involved total.

1x License server

1x Connection Broker/RD Gateway

6x Session Hosts

The problem is that the Connection Broker is no longer handing off desktop sessions to the session hosts.  In the past I could RDP to the Connection Broker (RDGateway.domain.local  -  farm name) and it would place me on one of the 6 session hosts.  Now it simply logs into the broker server itself.

I have tried a multitude of different things to get this working and am beside myself as to why it isn't.  I believe that my configuration is correct as I have compared it to several online setup guides and walk-trough's.

What could I be missing that would be causing this?

Hello,

We have a customer in Mexico who is RDPing into one of our hosted servers via a VPN tunnel.  One of the users (primary user) is experiencing issues with logging on multiple times before accessing the desktop of the server.  The person has kept a log of the logon incidents and they coincide with Application and Services errors that are logged on the server.  Below are the error we are seeing:

Excel 2010: Printing via Terminal Services getting a single cell per page

$

Hi

I know this has reared it's ugly head in the past, but we are now getting this issue.

We are using Terminal Services to supply the applications, they then map the local printer using Remote Desktop Easy Print.  We have found that the Lexmark CX510 when using the scaling options to Fit to one page the preview shows fine but when you print there are hundreds of pages with a single cell on each sheet.  When you go back into the Print preview it then shows one cell per page.  I have tried various different Lexmark drivers (CX510 PCL, PS, Universal driver 2 PCL5e, PCL XL, PS) and all do the same thing.  Have tried an older model drive (CX310) and get the same thing.  Have tried changing the resizing options in the driver to the correct paper size and still no difference (which was mentioned in a previous post from somebody with the same issue).

The clients are mostly Windows 7 and the Terminal Servers are Windows 2008 R2.  On Windows 8.1, I managed to find an install that works (INF file DriverVer=04/21/2009,6.3.9600.17415), but haven't been able to find one that works with Windows 7.  I have tried Lexmark and they basically said it's a Microsoft issue.

We did find a hotfix KB979163 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/979163) but when we tried to install it, got the message saying not applicable to our systems.

Any help much appreciated.

Kind regards

Dave

Black screen after logging onto RDS using RDS Farm

$

Hi All,

Some of our users are experiencing problems when logging onto the 2012R2 RDS environment.

The users are all external and connect using the RD-Web interface which generates an RDP file with all of their settings (RD Gateway, Session Broker, etc).

They briefly see a standard Windows blue "Logging On" screen but only a black screen after that, the RDP client also completely freezes after this and can only be killed with Task Manager.

I tried alternate RDP client which gives a little more information before hanging ("The requested session access is denied").

Any ideas on what this could be?

2008 r2 RDP SSL NLA problem "Local Security Authority cannot be contacted"

$

Hi!

I have run into an issue with RDP settings for 2008 R2 servers (all of them) whenever I enable NLA. That happens on user accounts that do NOT enforce password expiration (and so passwords are not expired) and MSTSC supporting NLA (client computers are win7 or win8).

In fact those same clients can use NLA just fine for connections to other win7/win8 workstations (domain members) using NLA, no probs!

SSL certificates are automatically issued by enterprise CA. All computers/servers have current and valid Computer certificates.

For some strange reason, I cannot enable NLA on RDP settings for any of 2008 R2 servers (various roles, ranging from physical DC running multiple roles, through dedicated virtual DC or dedicated virtual Print Servers up to dedicated Remote Desktop Services host), because all of them at once stop accepting RDP connections, always with same error message:

An authentication error has occurred.
The Local Security Authority cannot be contacted

Remote computer: server.domain.local
This could be due to an expired password.
Please update your password if it has expired.
For assistance, contact your administrator or technical support.
That same message also appears on DC (2008 R2) running the enterprise CA role ... irony ...

Please keep in mind that domain member computers running windows 7 x64 or windows 8.1 x64 can accept NLA enabled and SSL encrypted RDP traffic at same time without issues while using the same user accounts to connect.

To make it even funnier, I can set RDP on 2008 R2 acting as Remote Desktop Services server to accept only SSL RDP traffic and keep NLA disabled and all works just fine. So, it is strictly the NLA causing trouble here, but why? WS 2008 R2 unable to use Kerberos authentication for RDP?

WS 2012 R2 can accept NLA/SSL RDP connections without trouble, just as win7/win8 workstations can, so issue is narrowed down to only 2008 R2 servers (physical or virtual).

Is there a hotfix for this problem on 2008 R2? sounds to me like it is a bug in 2008 r2 regarding Kerberos authentication for RDP... is MS ever planning to fix it or we have to upgrade all servers to 2012R2 to "fix it" ...

Java Web Start not working with per session virtual IP

$

We are running RDS on 2008 R2, using per session virtual IP, and we are unable to run any applications that use Java Web Start (we've tried 3 so far).

The JNLP file downloads and javaws.exe launches to run this, but never gets any further. The process just drops to about 200K of memory and stays inactive.

I have run Wireshark to see what is happening from a network point of view and there is no traffic after the download of the JNLP file. This is in comparison to running from my PC, where javaws downloads the individual files referenced in the JNLP file and then launches javaw.exe to run the code.

I have turned off virtual IP on a test server and this allows things to work as expected, so it is definitely the interaction with virtual IP that is causing the problem. I suspect that the security sandboxing that Java Web Start does is causing it to attempt to use the main IP of the server and that RDS is preventing it from doing so (or something like that).

Has anyone else had the same issue? Any ideas on resolving this?

Share Access Deny after updates TS 2008r2

Yesterday I updated my infrastructure
5.5 Up3 vmware, vm microsoft servers 2008 R2, NetApp Data ontap 8.2.4
After the updates, the users in terminal server, no more access to some cifs share that first load into. Error is immediate. Access denied. Some links on the desktop, that pointed to Y as mapping are not existing.
The domain admins access without problems. permissions to the share remained unchanged.
I did restore the terminal server to two days before, no updates, but the problem persists.
Thank you

External Users with same netowork range can't use access RD Host through Remote Desktop Gateway

Hello,

I've setup a brand new Windows 2012 R2 serve with all the remote desktop services on it (Remote Desktop Gateway, Remote Web Server, Remote Deskop Host & Broker).

The server is on local network behing a router/firewall (single public ip :-( ).

I've got a public certificate or it and NAT is setup on router to redirect tcp 443 to the server internal ip (192.168.0.XXX).

My problem is that client can't connect on this server from anywhere locallly and externally (and it works great) except when client connect from a network that have an identical ip range as mine (192.168.0.---). In this case, after first authentication it's seems that client can't reach internal RD server. This is true for Remote Desktop Website (i can log on page but the differents apps will not connect when it tries to reach the RD server) and this is true for "mstsc" with remote desktop Gateway definied.

Thanx for your help (and sorry for my English)

Vince

Remote Desktop show black screen and closed

$

Today, when I went to remote to my VPS (with Windows 2012 r2), remote desktop shows me black screen and closed after some seconds. I've tested remote from other client (with different OS) but again shows black screen and closes.
I checked all solutions for this problem in the net but none work in my case. Some solutions that I've checked:

  • remove some windows updates
  • check user access
  • add user to Interactive and Authenticated Users group
  • test with other user account
  • uninstall Anti Virus
  • change some configuration in remote desktop application
  • reinstall graphic card driver
  • commands: netsh int tcp set global rss=disabled and netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled
  • check RD Gateway SSL certificate

When i check remote desktop event log, I'm found this error:

The RDP protocol component X.224 detected an error(0) in protocol stream and the client disconnected
with Event Id 97
what this Event Id means and how can remote my VPS with remote desktop?

(of Course i can access to VPS with VNC)

Edit:

Also I found this event in Event Viewer:

The Desktop Window Manager has exited with code (0xd00002fe)    Event Id:9009

What licenses for VDI do we need in our case?

$

0

We plan to implement VDI. There will be two RD virtualization hosts running Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 and two Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard hosts with Hyper-V role installed running infrastructure services (AD DS, DHCP, DNS, etc.) in virtual machines. We plan to create 120 pooled desktops running Windows 8.1. Our users use Linux based thin clients to access VDI. So what licenses do we need to purchase?

As far as I understand, we need:

  • 2 x Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard licenses
  • 120 VDA licenses
  • 120 RDS CAL
  • 120 Server CAL
  • 120 Windows 8.1 licenses

Is that right? That looks way too expensive in compare with Session-based RDS (old terminal server).

Printer Redirection Puzzle

I am using three different machines at our vacation home: a Surface Pro3 running Windows 10 (upgraded from Win7), a Dell desktop running Windows 10 (upgraded from Windows 7); and a Surface Pro running Windows 8.1. When I connect to my Windows 7 Pro desktop at my office (Windows SBS 2011 Standard) through RWA, I can print to the printer at the vacation home using the Dell desktop machine but not using either of the Surface Pro machines. All three machines will print to the same printer locally, but the two tablets will not provoke the office desktop machine to redirect the printer to them. I have checked the rdp printer/clipboard settings on the tablets. Everything seems to be set up the same on all three machines. I'd certainly appreciate any thoughts on how I can print using the tablets.

Thanks.

RD Licensing

I have a client on Windows Server 2012 R2 with Remote Desktop Connection Broker, Remote Desktop licensing, Remote Desktop Session Host and Remote Desktop Services.  When I initially setup the host and installed RDS features the licensing was 120 days under Windows 2000 Server - Built in TS per device cal.  I have now acquired and installed 10 RDS user cals and also purchased server cals.  When I rdp to the host I thought it would start issuing the user cals but the licensing manager shows zero issued.  What is the process to remove/disable the Windows 2000 licenses and start using the purchased CALs?  I set a gpo to set licensing server and user cal.  I have a planned reboot for patches this weekend.  Maybe a reboot is all that's needed?  Thx

The icons on the user's session desktop are neutral. Under Properties -> General one can see the UNC path of the redirected folder.

No such items appear in the actual folder as viewed with Explorer or using the dir command.
