Issue with RDS on Server 2012

Hello Friends,

I have ran into some issue but unable to understand on how i can achieve it. Let me first tell you about the environment.

All the servers are Server 2012 R2 Standard. Here are all the server and there Roles and Features Installed:

  • DC1
  • RDS1- RDS Licensing, RDS Broker, RDS Web Access
  • Host1- RDS Host
  • Host2- RDS Host
  • Host3- RDS Host
  • Host6- RDS Host, RDS Broker, RDS Web Access. RDS QuickSession Collection
  • RDS2- RDS Gateway, RDS Session Host, RDS Broker, RDS Web Access, and (As part of Gateway- NPS, IIS)

Currently, i have issue with RDS2 server.

Users are able to connect to the RDS environment. However, when i try connecting to the RDS2 server from DC1 or anyother server internally via RDP, it doesn't connect.

Looking at logs, when i attempting to connect to the RDS2 server from DC1 using MSTSC,  what i could see is:

in RDS2 eventlog:

  • Error 1296 - Broker Client is failing while getting redirection packet from Connection Broker, because RDS Broker is not ready for RPC Communication
  • Error 1306 - Broker failed to redirect with Error "Null"

Also, in HOST6 Eventlog:

  • Error 1016 - Connection Broker service denied the remote procedure call (RPC) from an unauthorized computer <IP Address of RDS2>

I am able to telnet to port 3389 from any server to RDS2

Please help..

Regards,

SA

Recycle Bin - Folder Redirection

Hello All,

I´m implementing a VDI Environment and using Folder Redirection. (Windows Server 2012).

But when my users delete any document, this document is not going to the recycle bin and I cannot find this document in any place.

There are any way to enable the recycle bin, and when the user delete a document, the users can see the document inside the recycle bin inside the terminal services?

Regards,

Daniel.

RDS 2012 R2 Certificate Error over CB High Availbility and DNS Round Robin

Hello there,

I have a Wildcard CA installed on our test client. Imported the certificate on the client in the computer trusted store and added the thumbprint in the policy seeting sha1--...

So there was no certificate errors till I installed HA CB.

Since then connecting over the DNS round robin name gets the certificate error "A revocation check could not be performed..".

Altough the CRL distribution points can be accessed by the client, which is in an other domain.

Clients in the same domain have no problems.

After installing HA, I had to import the same certificate again in RDS for CB SSO and Publishing, because it was on Error, now its on OK.

I followed this instructions: http://ryanmangansitblog.com/2013/03/30/deploying-rd-connection-broker-high-availability-in-windows-server-2012/

Connecting directly over mstsc to the dns rr HA get also the certificate error, but not when using the cb dns names.

Any ideas why this happens and how I can solve this?

Kind Regard

Hi ! After upgradig from Windows 7 ultimate to winodws 10 pro i can't get Windows remoteapps to work. I'm using a rdp file to open the remoteapp and the connection first gets established but after entring user credentials the remote Desktop session just dies! No remoteapp is opening on the Client side and the remote desktop session windows just disappears. There are also not fault or error Messages shown. login on the remote host by just using a remote Desktop session works fine. I've tested this now again with just setting up a simple remoteapp link that opens the Notepad.exe on the remote machine. This works fine on Windows 7 but now i have issues with Windows 10 Any help on this would be much appreciated Cheers here's the content of my remoteapp rdp file to start the Notepad.exe as a remoteapp:

Hello,

My last small problem is that I cannot shadow a simple VDI session.

I always get the same message: The computer name is invald.

More than that when I start the shadow, the computer name looks weird!

Idea??

COM Port redirection on Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop

I have a Windows 2012 R2 Standard server which is acting as an application server. It's running on VMware 5.5. There's another 2012 R2 server instance-domain controller-running as another VM.

Users connect into it using RDP from Windows 7 PCs. One user has a debit card PinPad that connects to one of the PCs via COM1 serial port. This PinPAD used to pass-through to the old terminal server, but the new server does not see it on any of its COM ports.

On the server I have made sure that the OU containing the terminal server has all of the "Disable redirection..." settings DISABLED, and I also set that on the default domain policy.

The client has the appropriate boxes checked to forward local devices in the RDP session shortcut.

This system has a credit card swiper that connects via USB and that works properly.

I did some searching and found a few articles related to this on 2008 but didn't directly help.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Slow outlook 2013 using large office 365 mailbox in terminal server environment - Windows search edb file size

$

Hi all, we have this issue on multiple servers:

Customers with their own local terminal servers (15 users, RDP to a server sessio) that have office 365 mailboxes are having issues with the windows search EDB file where it becomes HUGE (80+gbs).

Reason for this is because all these users have large ost files in which they share the same shared mailboxes (site specific for example) and there goes something wrong with the windows search index database file.

Temporarly we solve this by deleting and rebuilding the search index but in mere weeks the database edb file itself is back consuming a lot of space.

We CAN NOT AFFORD to work in ONLINE mode of outlook: the whole experience for end user is horrible. the outlook clients just react real slow because you're constantly working in mailboxes of sizes larger than 20gbs combined. So we managed to cache it for one month.

is there any permanent fix to tihs, how can we make our outlook mailboxes work fine on this terminal server without caching? the experience is horrible if we don't cache.

edit: we tried a lot of stuff, archiving, hardware accelerations, ...

Debug Assertion Failed: sockcore.cpp, line 623

Both the (1) RDLoadSimulationClient.exe and (2) RDLoadSimulationServerAgent.exe exhibits this error when supplying the connection info (1-client to server, 2-server to controller).

What is the assertion being made at line 623?

RDWeb - HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable.

Hi all,

I have configured RDS in my single host hyper-v environment as follows.

- RDS-A-01 = RDWeb & Broker

- RDS01 = session host 1

- RDS02 = session host 2

- collection type: session

- domain users have access to the collection

When I try and hit the URL that I see in the deployment properties for RD Web Access I get the following error in IE..

Service Unavailable: HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable.

I suspect this is some kind of IIS issue, I have done an iisrest and all the basics but still get the error.

I am also wondering if the self signed cert I created has something to do with this?

I just cannot get it working.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You must change password before logging on the first time - Windows 2012 R2

Hi,

We deployed new Windows 2012 R2 domain. All the domain controllers and member servers are Windows 2012 R2. One of the member server is RDP license server. Created new users and set the option "user must change password at first logon". However, when user tries to connect any of the member servers they  get the below message. I searched in internet and found various solution like disabling NLA, "negotiate" RDP connection, setting low level encryption and so on. I tried various combination (RDP settings) in GPO domain policy, but none helped. Please help in fixing the issue.

Bring an RD Gateway into the environment...

$

Hi all,

So I have got my RDS environment running with an RD Web, a broker and a couple of session hosts using a collection that provides domain users with access. All works very well.

However I would like to make it accessible to remote users, I understand I will need to add an RD gateway to do this?

I think the hyper-v host will be the best server to add this, as the hyper-v server is domain joined and is public facing / has my public IP forwarded to from the router. Therefore I figure it will make sense to point at this for incoming external connections.

I am not sure how to go about adding the RD gateway role. Do I need a paid for SSL cert or can I use a self signed?

Do I need to create an A record on my internet domain to point to the public IP of my hyper-v server / soon to be RD gateway?

Any help on setting this up would be much appreciated.

Thanks

DNS Round Robin As Well As Session Collection

$

I'm currently setting up some thin clients which we have bought - HP T520's. If I put the name of an RDS Session Host server into the RDP client, obviously it doesn't work due to it not being ran in Admin mode.

The RDP client on these thin clients does not give an option for using the Gateway to connect.

How do I set up an DNS Round Robin configuration as well as the session collection? If I set up a DNS name it stills gives errors about redirection.

How to find RDS "farm Name "

Hi

I am getting bellow error message while accessing my RDS server. Please help me to find out "Farm name

[Window Title]
Remote Desktop Connection

[Content]
Remote Desktop Connection cannot connect to the remote computer.

The remote computer Jet-ABC123.ABC.asp that you are trying to connect to is redirecting you to another remote computer named Jet-ABC124.ABC.asp. Remote Desktop Connection cannot verify that the computers belong to the same RD Session Host server farm. You must use the farm name, not the computer name, when you connect to an RD Session Host server farm.

If you are using an RDP connection provided to you by your
administrator, contact your administrator for assistance.

If you want to connect to a specific farm member to administer it, type "mstsc.exe /admin" at a command prompt.

RD Gateway SBS2011 having horrible performance issues

$

Hello,

We're using SBS2011 en the RD Gateway tot connect to a old Terminal Server 2003 (which will be phased out very soon) and to the Desktop PC's (Windows 7 Pro) at work and to a 2012 Server (not R2).

But not matter to which I connect (using Windows 7 of 10 client), the performance is horrible.

We get response timeouts of 1-2 seconds about every 10-15 seconds!

The internet connection at work (down/up) is about 16/1 MBit (not much). But we also have this problem, when I work alone (latein the evening) and nobody is using the connection but me!

I've read this tread, but I can't see anything I can do to change the settings as then are already specified to use very low bandwidth.
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/ce8d8e6c-54d3-41ed-a73a-d84808cd15ee/rd-gateway-slow-performance?forum=winserverTS

On my Windows 7 PC at work (host) the RD-client 8.0 is already installed (or do I have to install another update on my work PC to boost performance)?

2012 R2 RDS Temporary Profile issue

$

I have set up a standard 3 node 2012 R2 RDS for testing. All virtualized on VMware ESXi 5.0. I have a connection Broker, session host, and web access server. I have published several applications and I can access them without a problem. Here is my issue:

When I try to log on to my session host server either locally or thru RDP, I am always logged in with a Temporary profile. It does not mater what user account I use. Even logging on locally as the administrator I get a temporary profile.

All windows updates are installed and current.

I have removed the server from the domain, deleted the account, and rejoined it to the domain.

I have deleted all .bak registry entries from here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

There is a hotfix here for a similar issue on 2012 but it does not apply to 2012 R2

The only event viewer errors are:

1515 (Windows has backed up this user profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backup profile the next time this user logs on.)

1511 (Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.)

Any suggestions to resolve would be greatly appreciated.

Access is denied when writing to a file in C:\Windows\SysWow64 but only inside a terminal session.

I'm having some trouble trying to write to files inside the C:\Windows\SysWow64 directory when connected via a terminal session. Testing using the same user, I can write to files in this location when logged on the terminal server locally, but I can not write when connected to it via a terminal session.

The terminal server is Server 2008 R2 Standard and is running Remote Desktop Services.

I have a legacy application which stores a file in this directory that has to be written to.

I have poured through group policy trying to find if there is something that is configured to block this, but I have not found anything yet.

UAC is disabled for this user.

Account keeps getting locked out - Logged into on of the pooled VMs and changed password.

Hi,

Recently my account keeps getting logged out 4-5 times a day. I believe I was logged into one of the pooled VMs and password expired and I had to change the password. Now my account keeps getting locked out. I do not know which VM of the pool I logged onto. What can I do?

Thank you

Move Connection Broker in Collection

$

At present, I have one RDS server running Session Host, Connection Broker, Licensing and RDS Gateway.

I plan to introduce a new Session Host. I would also like to move the Connection Broker role to a separate server.

I have tried to simulate this in the lab, but I ended up with the RDS Collection being deleted and I had to recreate it.

Is there a procedure I need to follow to move the Connection Broker role?

Server 2012 RDS - User Profile Disks - Errors during Logoff

$

I have set up a test Server 2012 RDS collection (Single Server for now) and implemented User Profile disks.

I have two problems.

First: My generic test user can connect and does successfully use the user profile disk as expected. However, atlogoff, the system event log contains these errors:

The error (NTFS 137) is: The default transaction resource manager on volume C:\Users\ts3.test encountered a non-retryable error and could not start.  The data contains the error code.

The warning (NTFS 50) that concerns me is:

It appears that the user profile disk is being "disabled" or "disconnected" before the profile data is completely written at logoff. What can I do to troubleshoot this?

Second:

Update: A post from Mike Connor on the following page: -LINK- solved the problem described below.

My administrative user always logs on now with a temporary profile. At the beginning, the UPD was working and mounting. That stopped working. In attempting to troubleshoot, I logged the admin user off and deleted the UPD disk file from the share. I remember it working again after generating a new UPD disk file in the share. Soon, it quit working again. I deleted the UPD disk file again from the share and ever since, it has never regenerated a new UPD andalways logs on with a temporary profile.
