RemoteApp and Desktops_On Windows 2012 R2, how to gain access to network shares

$

Good Day,

Currently testing this in dev for future implementation

I have setup remote desktop service to use remote apps on Windows 2012 R2. I can now access the remote app via web browser and can launch Microsoft Wordpad for example. My issue is that ussually users when they remote into a full remote desktop session or their desktop, they will be able to see their mapped network drives -that being applied via script in ad, and also see their personal drive. When laughing app via remote app I cannot see their personal drive or network shares. Is there anyway to fix this.

Thank you

Can't get RD Gateway to work.

Hi:

I have a newly deployed Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, I could join the server to the domain with no problems, just installed the server role RDS with role services:

 . Remote Desktop Session Host

 . Remote Desktop Gateway

Following the wizard, created the CAP and RAP policies (among other parameters).

But I have an issue: When I open Server Manager -> RDS -> then I run BPA, it finds 2 errors:

1. RD Gateway needs at least one CAP enabled

2. RD Gateway must be able to contact AD DS

I don't know what's happening, there is a CAP available (and enabled) also I disabled the firewalls on my DCs just for the BPA test, and it failed again.

Losing connection to RDS server when working at home and office

Good day,

Some users are sometimes losing their RDP connection after mere minutes, even when the connection has been re-established

The network speeds of a user at home are:

-30 Mbps Down
-39 Mbps Up

We have a policy saying that 'we don't support people that work at home' but it still makes me curious since the problem persists when people are working at the office.

Thanks in regard!

Microsoft Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Pooled Desktops not rolling back

$

Hi all,
Thanks for taking the time to read.
We have 7 servers configured for our testing of Microsoft's Virtual Desktop solution.
All servers are Windows 2012 standard (x64) with roles installed as follows:-

1 x Web+Gateway
1 x Broker
3 x Virtual Desktop Host
2 x Session Host

All servers are fresh installs with roles configured with no apparent issues.

Via the web frontend the RemoteApps via the session hosts work perfectly and indeed the Virtual desktops also work OK apart from them not rolling back to the RDV_ROLLBACK snapshot.

* The Virtual Desktop OS is Windows 7 Pro (x86).
* VM Template created with all windows updates and KMS client key.
* Firewall disabled on the desktop.
* Template SYSPREPed using OOBE, shutdown and Generalize options.
* Pooled Virtual Desktop collection created successfully with Rollback enabled from the shutdown SYSPREPed template.

The pool creation is actually only successful if I add the computer account for the Broker to the local admins group on the RDVHost server. I'm wondering if that could be a clue to the problem I am having with the Rollback?

If I do not add the broker to the local admins group I get an error stating the following:-

"Could not identify the state of the virtual desktop. Ensure the RD Virtualization host server SERVERNAME is available on the network and that the virtual desktop PRC-Template is shut down."

To clarify - the RD Virtualization host server IS available on the network as its the very same server I am using to generate the new collection, ie its the one that holds the template and is the one I am working on. The PRC-Template IS shut down after the SYSPREP.

We have our servers configured on one VLAN and the Virtual Desktops are available on another. Even if I create them temporarily on the same VLAN as the servers the collection creation and Rollback problem still exists.

I know there is at least one other thread on here where someone else is having similar issues with the template but its the Rollback issue that's my main concern at the moment.

Apologies for muddling with 2 issues but I am genuinely not sure whether or not they are related.

What logs do I need to be looking at to work out whether Rollback is actually being attempted and if so why is it failing.

I have checked the various TerminalServices-TSV, Hyper-V and Rdms-UI logs on the servers but cannot see anything obvious but of course I may have missed something.

What is it that triggers the rollback, at logoff what actually happens in order to kick off that process?

Incidently I can manually rollback to the RDV_ROLLBACK snapshot without any errors.

Many Thanks for any help and advice you may be able to offer.

Remote session via RDGW fine with Windows - not possible with Mac ...?

Hi,

I've configured a fresh single RDS Server (all roles on one Server including Gateway) based on Windows Server 2012 R2. Everything works fine when we use Windows 7 with current RDP Client to connect via Gateway/HTTPS.

When we use a Mac (OS X 10.9.3) with current Version of "Microsoft Remote Desktop" (8.0.7), no RDP Connection is established. Error message: "Unable to connect to remote PC. Please verify ...". Login on <external.domain.name>/rdweb works fine and I'm able to download the .rdp-file and open it with Microsoft Remote Desktop, but after a few seconds the error above appears.

I did some traffic analyzing on our Firewall and it seems that the Mac try to connect on port 3389 on the public ip of the RDS Server, which is blocked. I manually configured a RDP Connection with Gateway - same error. The log of Microsoft Remote Desktop:

I remember that there was an issue to establish SSO based on DNS resolve (external Domain Name to internal ip address via Gateway Connection); but we resolved this with a new DNS Zone. But why is it fine on Windows, but not on Mac OS X with Microsoft Remote Desktop? I wondering why the MRD is not using the Gateway Connection to resolve the RDP host ... ?

Many thanks,

Is it just me....

why do all the RDS servers regularly disappear from RDSM?  It's simple to resolve by adding them back into Server Manager > Manage > Add Servers.

Corrupted roaming RDS Profiles maybe?

Windows Server 2012 R2 - RD Session Hosts with two RD Web Access servers

$

Hello,

We have deployed 25 RD Session Hosts which are accessible via RD Web Access. We have at this moment one deployment server which is configured as RD Web Access and RD Connection Broker. For this special configuration we have one collection by server because each RD Session Host server has different functionalities.

To grant user accessibility during down times,  we would like to have two deployment servers (RD Web Access and RD Connection Broker) server "A" and server "B" with exact the same configuration.

I tried to configure this scenario, but I couldn't add the the same server to both deployment "A" and "B". When I add a previously assigned RD Session Host to the new deployment "B",  the RD server will be automatically disabled from "A".

Looking for a solution for this problem, I discovered a registry key entry on the RD Session Host located under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Terminal Server\ClusterSettings\SessionDirectoryLocation

The value of this key is the FQDN of the new deployment server "B" (RD Web Access and RD Connection Broker). If I switch this value to the old FQDN of the server "A", then the deployment "A" works again.

Is there any step that I'm missing or this configuration is not possible? How can I setup two RD Web Access servers?

Multimedia over RDP

Right this is a real annoying one I've been working on for a few days now.

I have built a virtual environment on server 2012 R2 DC Hyper V. The VMs are win 7 ENT SP1 and are deployed via Dell vWorkspace.

The server has remote FX enabled and the VMs have the remote FX adapter which is working fine because I can run applications like game maker and Kodu and multimedia files seems to work ok up to a point.

The problem is when I connect to my VMs from win 7 Pro endpoints and WYSE thin Clients with Wyse OS I cant play Embedded WMV files in Internet Explorer but I can play WMV files in media player.

is there something that I need to enable on the Endpoints to get Video media to redirect through the RDP session?

Could you add a Windows Server 2008 R2 RDSH to a RDS 2012 R2 farm

Hi,

i don't know if its possible to do this acction.  I have found this note in the next link and applies to Windows Server 2008 R2

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753891.aspx

"To be a member of a farm that uses RD Connection Broker in Windows Server 2008 R2, an RD Session Host server must be running either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2008"

We need to know if this setence i'ts the same for Windows Server 2012R2 RDS?

Thank you so much.

User theme appears to be randomly changing for no reason...? (with photos)

I've got about 20 users on a Terminal Server using Wyse T10 and C10 thin clients.  Odd thing is, the same user who logs in will see multiple themes though the day.  Basically they will log-on and see the win7 style start icon and such...then for no reason, the screen will flicker and show the classic start icon...then later it will switch back.  Other things such as the print menu's and IE web browser skins change too to match the classic or win7 theme.

See screenshots below.

Any idea's?  Should I focus on the wyse devices or the windows server to correct this?  We are running Server 2008 R2 with terminal serveries enabled.

Users dont have the abilty to change themes to my knowledge

Allow Access to Application if User is logged into specific PC

Hi guys

I have an RDS2012 R2 farm of 8 session hosts with MS Office Standard. I have purchased (and deployed via RDS) Office with SA and there are enough licenses to cover all computers within the company. Additionally, I have purchased (and deployed via RDS) 10 Office Pro with SA licenses for a small group of users who need access to MS Access. Because Office licensing is per device, If I deploy Access via RDS, am I correct in thinking that the 10 users are only allowed to use Access from their own machine within the office. They can’t hot desk when visiting a remote office as only their machine is licensed. If this is the case, as long as I explain to the user that they can only use Access from their primary PC, would that be ok from a Microsoft compliance point of view?

Alternatively, I have been looking at scripting something to check the name of the local/client computer before opening Access not allowing access if it’s not their primary PC. This would be better i guess but can’t find a way to do this

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated

External Remote Desktop Session won't connect Server 2012 R2 (0x8007007A)

Hi forum members, I have a weird issue going on with a high availability Server 2012 R2 setup.

The users of this company are connecting trough Remote Desktop Connection in- and outside the organization. All the inbound connection inside the organization goes perfect, the servers are load-balancing the sessions and uses the two session hosts to connect. The users are connecting with the rds using round robin with hostname remote.customer.com

3389 is open and forwarded to Server 1. The users are able to connected when the connection broker starts a session on Server 1, but when the connection broker starts a session on server 2 we are receiving this error message.

So it's not possible to start a remote desktop connection from external location when the broker is trying to connect with server 2.

If I check the eventviewer on server 2 it shows me the following error: "Failed to create KVP sessions string. Error Code 0x8007007A"

Current setup:

Server 1 Roles:
- RDS Connection Broker
- RDS License Manager/Server (Per device cal)
- RDS Gateway
- Session Host

Server 2 Roles:
- Session Host

Server 3 Roles:
- SQL Connection Broker

The customer uses a per device cal. All the calls are stored on Server 1. I've also forced the License server on Server 2 with a group policy.

Could someone please advise what settings to check and change? Many thanks in advance.

Simple question

If my server crashes or I loose network connection, how can I make my remote desktops close quickly rather than just sit there and look like there is no problem?

SSO for RDWeb Hyper-V 2012 R2 and Windows 7 VMs from ThinPC Win7

Hi,
I have been having issue with SSO for RDweb app. Using Hyper-V Server 2012 with VMs (Pooled and Personal) Win7 64bit. Remote Client has ThinPC Windows 7 with RDP 8.1.
Ideally once user logs into ThinPC , IE opens up to rdweb link. Under RemoteApp and Desktop, there are 2 icons that said Pooled VM and Personal VM. A user clicks on Personal and it should automatically rdp to the Win7 64bit VM without any credentials.
Everything works, until it gets to the Win7 64bit VM, user must enter their password which I do not want. It should use the Windows Authentication password when she logs in first time for ThinPC (domain joined).
I have tried everything, Delegation Credentials, IE Trusted Site  Termsrv/*domain.com. But once user clicks on the Personal or Pool VM, it gets to the VM and ask for password.
Please advise. Do you do support?
Thanks
Tuan

New RDS Host server unable to get licenses from existing RD Licensing server (Windows 2012)

RDServer1 servers as Broker, Host, Gateway, Licensing and Web Access. It has 50 per user license. Everything works fine.

Add a 2nd RD server (RDServer2), everything looks good.  Both RD1 and RD2 show up in Server Manager\RDS, and the roles show up correctly RD2 is only RD Session Host, while RD1 is Session host along with everything mentioned above.  Both servers show up as under Server Manager\RDS\Servers, and if I run RD Licensing Diagnose on RD1, it shows the correct Per User licenses.  But if I run the same diagnose on RD2, it shows 0 number of licenses and Licensing mode: Not configured, with a Problem message of "The licensing mode for the Remote Desktop Session Host server is not configured".  However, it does list RD1 as a license server in Summary pane.

I have even tried using Powershell to set RD1 as the licensing server, still didn't work.

$obj = gwmi -namespace "Root/CIMV2/TerminalServices" Win32_TerminalServiceSetting

$obj.SetSpecifiedLicenseServerList("License.contoso.com")

Also, make sure RD2 is a member of Terminal Server Computers and RD1 is member of Terminal Server License Servers in AD.  Reboot both servers multiple times, uninstall/ reinstall RD host role on RD2 multiple times.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance!!

Temporary Profiles for some users.

$

We have a RDS farm that consists of 3 session host servers, a connection broker, and a gateway.  Users log in with a roaming profile saved on a file server.  When they log in, it copies the profile to the session host sever locally, and when they log off, it gets copied back to the file server and the local profile gets deleted.  Lately, some users are logging in with a temp profile.  Besides the obvious drawback of having a temp profile, we found that Lync does not allow the user to have a conference chat (more than 2 people in the chat) when you're using a temp profile.  Since this is something they rely on for business, this issue is now in the front burner.

I did some searching and found something about deleting entries in the registry located here:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

I found the entries associated with the temp profiles and deleted them, but it's not helping.  Also, when users log off, the entries are deleted automatically anyways.  The temp profile folders are also being deleted when the user logs off.

I should also add that I always try to delete profiles using the GUI first (System Properties - User Profiles), and reboot if I cannot (in case some files in the profiles are locked).

Does anyone have a solution to this?

[User Profile; RDS; 2012] Mount; put 1 file; Umount;

Hello @all

I am working for a client and I am a bit limited on my action (no access to GPO/Active Directory etc).
But I am the admin of RDS 2012R2 system server where we can find a server with a folder on D:\users_profiles\*.vhdx

I have to put a 1 file (or more later) in each vhdx/user profile for each users.
Manually it's easy. double click on the vhdx it's open me the tree folder then i just have to copy/paste.

But I have to do this for 300 vhdx...
My idea was to make a powershell script.
Get-childitem  *.vhdx -recurse | % {mount-vhd $ copy-item ...txt -destination ....)

Something like that

I try to find a solution on the web and try the command mount-vhd but it's seems that is link to hyper service who is not available on my server because it is a virtual machin.

Do you have any tools or idea to help me to do that ?
Thanks a lot

Does anyone know if there is an event id for who set an RDSH in drain mode? If so, is it logged on the broker or directly on the RDSH?

Limit remote access on Server 2008

I have been given a new project and have been searching here and other internet sites with no solutions. I do not know the ins and outs of Windows Server very well.I have a Windows 2008 server, service pack 2, that is a stand alone server, and is not part of a Domain/Active Directory that we have users log in to throughRemote Desktop. We now have anAccess Database that we want new users to be able to only access when they remote in. That means the only things on the desktop would be shortcuts to the program and that would be the only the program they have access to. Could anyone tell me how to set that up? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
