RDS 2008 R2 - GPOs not applied after password change

Hey all,

we have an RDS 2008 R2 SP1 Farm. Some of our Clients connecting to this farm without using NLA.

In the Special case where a users Password is expired, the session ends up on the Server Screen and the user enters his old Password then his new Password, then Login continues succesfully, but some GPOs are not applied. There are no Errors in Event Log. We have also taken a GPsvc Log, but there are also no hints related to this issue.

This issue only applies to RDP Clients that are not NLA capable.

Does someone as an Idea on what the root cause could be?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Adrian

RDS 2012 RemoteApp steal focus

Hi!

Again problems with our RDS 2012 and Windows 7 clients with RDP 8.0

Users in one remote branch experienced issue with RemoteApp stealing focus.

Previously we had the same issue, but resolve it uninstalling update KB2923545.

Now, after uninstalling KB2923545 focus is still goes to RemoteApp.

We try registry tweek: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client] "RDGClientTransport"=dword:00000001

And after it, saw on our gateway, that clients connects with legacy RPC-HTTP transport instead of HTTP transport, but it doesn't resolve focus issue.

KB2964832 not applicable to issue affected systems, so we can't install it (As I understood it helping a lot with RDS2012 issues for Windows 8.0 and Windows 8.1, but not for Windows 7 with RDP 8.0)

Can anyone help us with that very annoying stealing focus issue?

PS. Users say, that problem first appeared 5 october 2015

RDP (Remote Desktop) to Windows 10 without passwords not possible anymore. Bug or feature?

After upgrading two of my machines to Windows 10 (Education N clean install and Pro N upgrade from Win8.1), I was not able to set up Remote Desktop as I was used to since Windows 7 (maybe this was possible before, too).

I am used to configure Windows to allow RDP connections as a user without password (home usage only). Apparently this is not working anymore after upgrading to Windows 10. (I have enabled this by modifying secpol.msc 's security policies. Further informations provided if needed).

With the "no password" setup i get immediatly disconnected by the local machine which seems to auto login by itself after connecting via RDP. The only solution I managed to find so far was to set up a password.

Is this a bug or a feature?

Cheers

Hello, guys.

I am trying to get old style ts-web behavior, with the ability to get remote desktop inside the web browser.

Back in server 2k3 it was done using tsweb and activex control. How this can be done in 2012 r2?

I currently have 2 RDS servers alive and kicking, one of them holds remoteapps collection and the other i'm trying to configure to provide the mentioned functionality.

Any help will be highly appreciated

printing issues - microsoft enhanced point and print compatibillity driver

We have a windows 2012r2 file and printing server , where I have created all queues for the (several, different models as well, Xerox) network printers.

There are 2 windows 2012r2 servers set up as remote desktop services (session based).

Everyone ones in a while , the a user come in the next morning and they are unable to print to a specific printer.

He/she can not print, the rest of the users in the whole network environment CAN print to that same printer.

When I checked the profile sometimes the driver is set to the Microsoft enhanced ...  instead of the Xerox driver.

The way to remedy the situation is to delete the printer from the user profile and add it back again.

When the problem is fixed with that user, the same issue may pop up again some days later with another user, and the issue may be with the same printer or with one of the other Xerox printers (4 Xerox printers , 4 different models).  I have not noticed that it happens with the HP printer yet, but by now everyone is used to the delete and add back again procedure).

Any idea what's causing this ?

Problem running app through RDP file

Hello

I was required to developa a application that generates documents on a ERP program. The application is programmed in C#.
The ERP program have an App launcher, where I can select my app and run it.

One of the app parts is  the reading of an Excel document and I use an using Microsoft.Ace.OleDb.12.0 Connection to  read it.

I had to install the Microsoft Access Database engine on the Server to be able t oread it.
My application runs fine with all the users I tried. I login to the server with the "Remote Desktop Connection" app, launch the ERP and then the App

The ERP is installed on a server out of my control, the admins generates an RDP file for launching the ERP.
From the App launcher my app is launched but it cant read the excel file because it gives an oledb error.

Whats the problem ?
Lack of permission for accessing the Oledb libraries that enables my program to work ? (Microsoft Access Database engine) ?
Programming related ? ( I dont have any problems if i log in to the server with any user and run the program(even with the same user used within the RDP file)

The server runs Windows Server 2008 R2 Standarat

Thanks in Advance

When attempting to Shadow on 2012 R2 RDS we get an Unspecified error

We have built a Windows server 2012 R2 RDS server, and setup the whole deployment on one server, Gateway, Broker, licensing, session host, and collection.

But when we go to shadow the user using Server manager or command line mstsc /shadow:n when get this very helpful error:   Unspecified error in a Window called Shadow Error

I have tested Shadowing on another networks server with a similar setup and it works fine, only difference is the Active directory server are 2008 vs this one that doesn't work being 2003.

I have also tested using local accounts and still get the same error, and there is not a lot on the web regarding this error and RDS shadowing

SSO for RDWeb Hyper-V 2012 R2 and Windows 7 VMs from ThinPC Win7

Hi,
I have been having issue with SSO for RDweb app. Using Hyper-V Server 2012 with VMs (Pooled and Personal) Win7 64bit. Remote Client has ThinPC Windows 7 with RDP 8.1.
Ideally once user logs into ThinPC , IE opens up to rdweb link. Under RemoteApp and Desktop, there are 2 icons that said Pooled VM and Personal VM. A user clicks on Personal and it should automatically rdp to the Win7 64bit VM without any credentials.
Everything works, until it gets to the Win7 64bit VM, user must enter their password which I do not want. It should use the Windows Authentication password when she logs in first time for ThinPC (domain joined).
I have tried everything, Delegation Credentials, IE Trusted Site  Termsrv/*domain.com. But once user clicks on the Personal or Pool VM, it gets to the VM and ask for password.
Please advise. Do you do support?
Thanks

Temporary Profiles for some users.

$

We have a RDS farm that consists of 3 session host servers, a connection broker, and a gateway.  Users log in with a roaming profile saved on a file server.  When they log in, it copies the profile to the session host sever locally, and when they log off, it gets copied back to the file server and the local profile gets deleted.  Lately, some users are logging in with a temp profile.  Besides the obvious drawback of having a temp profile, we found that Lync does not allow the user to have a conference chat (more than 2 people in the chat) when you're using a temp profile.  Since this is something they rely on for business, this issue is now in the front burner.

I did some searching and found something about deleting entries in the registry located here:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

I found the entries associated with the temp profiles and deleted them, but it's not helping.  Also, when users log off, the entries are deleted automatically anyways.  The temp profile folders are also being deleted when the user logs off.

I should also add that I always try to delete profiles using the GUI first (System Properties - User Profiles), and reboot if I cannot (in case some files in the profiles are locked).

Does anyone have a solution to this?

Cannot Login to Remote Desktop Services from Outside our Network.

Hello Guys,

I'm having a terrible time trying to gain access through our Terminal Services setup from outside our network.  I can login just fine from within out network but cannot if I'm trying to get in from the outside.

I have a test user John Q Doe setup.  If I try this user from inside, he works fine.  From the outside, I always get an error that Remote Desktop Can't connect to the remote computer.

When I try from outside, I get through several steps and then the process shows "Initializing Remote Connection..." for about 20 seconds. then fails with the above error.  If I intentionally type the wrong password, I receive a "Your Credentials did not work" error within 2 seconds.

When I looking into the Event Viewer, I found that Events 787 and 818 do not exist if coming in from the outside.
(See events for both attempts below)

Thanks for the help...

What to choose to assign GPU

$

Hi!

I need to assign GPU to virtual machines in hyper-v 2012 data center server. May we know what option should I select while enabling remote desktop services:

1. Role based or feature based installation

2. Remote desktop services installation

As I was told that it is not possible to assign GPU to a VM having server operating system I have to install a desktop operating system. That means we need separate licenses for every vm we create? Is it correct?

Thanks.

Wyse thin client will not connect to term server 2008 but WILL connect to any regular server 2008.

I have 2 identical HP Proliant servers.   Both have the same version of Server 2008 r2. One is running Remote Desktop Services (terminal server) and the Other is not.

The one with Remote desktop services will not connect to certain thin clinets.   The other appears more promiscuous and will handshake and connect with any of them.

I have done the License Server trick with the install by Web, and remove and reinstall and that got SOME of the thin clients to work, but there are 5 others that are remaining stubborn.

Why would Remote Desktop block a Wyse Thin Client when standard server will accept it?   If the Firmware on the Thin Client was out of date, it would not be connecting with ANY Server 2008 r2, but it is.   ?!?

At a total loss for ideas on this one...

Domain Controller Windows Server Std 2012 R2

Hi Everyone. We are having issues in the Domain controller having Windows Server 2012 R2 in Virtual Machine that it allows domain users to login to the DC Remotely with admin rights. We already enabled default group policy on User Rights Management that allow Remote only for domain admins. we did not enable deny access, since the new user has to be added on every creation of new user. We also do not want to use distribution group to deny it. is there any way to deny them remote access to DC?

Thanks in Advance.

IP Virtualization - IP Pool Not Working

$

Since April I have been using IP Virtualization using a IP Pool set in the registry instead using a DHCP server and it was working fine. Since last week the servers that I had it enable on will not issue a IP after all have been issues on list but not in use. Let me explan, what will happen now is that when the first user gets an IP address it will not release that IP after the user has logged off. I looked through the event viewer logs and it says that it releases the IP but never issues that IP again until I reboot the server. I tested this on one my servers with IP virtualization enabled and after it has gone through the list it will not issue another IP address from the pool, unless I reboot the server.

I have tried removing all registry entries, remove the RDS role from the server, uninstall any patches from the date when we started to see these problems. But it is still not working the way it was. I also tried clearing the Winsock catalog but that didn't work either. Does anybody know any process or registry entry that may fix this or any logs that I can look at to se what may be causing the problem? Also the RDS servers are virtualized in Hyper-V
