Taskbar shortcuts are duplicated

Hello everyone)

There was such a problem.

There is a farm (2 brokers, 12 hosts, a gate). There are published applications. When you open the application, 2 shortcuts appear on the taskbar in user machines. 1 - mstsc, 2 - published application.

Connection goes through RDGW. I don’t understand which way to dig. The problem is mildly floating.
For some employees this is present (Win7-10), for some not.

Maybe someone has already encountered a similar ...?

Windows does not remember “select your primary button” setting with Remote Desktop

I have "select your primary button" set to "right". However, when I connect via Remote Desktop, this setting (for that very same user) is set to "left". If I change it back to "right" (while connected via RDC) it works fine...until I disconnect and connect again, and then the setting goes back to "left".

i don't understand what i need?

What will i need to purchase and will Microsoft help me install and configure so i can run my business software?

Hi there

I am having a problem whereby a USB webcam works fine on my local machine but when i connect to my RDS 2016 it doesn't pick up the webcam. I have enabled it through the Remote desktop Connection applet and I have enabled RemoteFX through GPO but the Camera still doesn't get picked up.

Can you suggest what else i can do?

UPD - recycle bin problem - Users cannot delete files randomly

$

Hello,

We have a problem with the bin of our UPD profils.

Our farm :

DCS01 and DCS02 : active directory

MGM01 : management of the RDS farm and SQL database for broker HA.

BRK01 and BRK02 : brokers

RDS01, 02,...07 : RDS hosts

FLS01 : data + upd location

Diagnostic
User connects to the farm.
Randomly, users can delete, or not, files on their desktop, download, ... They are prompted for admin credentials.

We saw that when they cannot delete, the bin is empty, and their icon on c:\users is a yellow folder. When they can delete, their icon is the beautiful little hard drive, and the bin contains the previous deleted files :

Test

Delete from other location outside UPD, like C:\test\test.txt : ok no problem,

Files are not in the public folder

regedit - profillist (in case of temp profil) : no temp profil

delete $recycle.bin in the upd

delete c:\$recycle.bin on each RDSH servers

disable the GPO with "Hide these specified drives in My Computer" and with the prevent access on my test user

restart all servers except DCs

Delete the $recycle.bin in the UVHD-template

shift + del : it's ok, no prompt for admin credentials, but we lose the bin..

Currently, we have these rights on the $recycle.bin of the UPD

I tried to add aclcls c:\users\%username%\$recycle.bin /grant %username%:F

But :
- when we have the problem (yellow folder icon), we can delete files without credentials prompt, 2 files are added in c:\users\%username%\$recycle.bin for each file deleted (see with dir command) but the bin on the desktop is still empty.
- when the session is ok (hard drive icon), we don't have the file deleted, previously with the problem, in the bin on desktop.

We tried too to mount the UPD on the FLS server, unassigned the letter, unmount the UPD.

We don't have more ideas. If you can help us please.

I hope I have been understandable

Thanks

Hello,

I need to have a better understanding of Microsoft VDI.

My objective is to have 500 connections to the virtual desktops I have created in my VDI Host server.

What do I need to accomplish it?

Can I assign like 5 users to 1 virtual desktop that I have created?

Remote Desktop Client Keep Alive

$

From this article I am trying to understand that you can enable the Keep Alive on the client side also is that correct? Can you set the Keep Alive Interval and other settings on the client side through the GROUP POLICY.

Next, when it says REMOTE DESKTOP HOST in the group policy, does this mean both on the client side and the server side or just the SERVER site since people can misunderstand Host being the host server hosting the terminal services.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/remote/remote-desktop-services/troubleshoot/rdp-client-disconnects-cannot-reconnect-same-session

After Remote Desktop client loses its connection to the remote desktop, the client can't immediately reconnect. The user receives one of the following error messages:

  • The client couldn't connect to the terminal server because of a security error. Make sure you are signed in to the network, then try connecting again.
  • Remote Desktop disconnected. Because of a security error, the client could not connect to the remote computer. Verify that you are logged onto the network and then try connecting again.

When the Remote Desktop client reconnects, the RDSH server reconnects the client to a new session instead of the original session. However, when you check the RDSH server, it says that the original session is still active and didn't enter a disconnected state.

To work around this issue, you can enable the Configure keep-alive connection interval policy in the Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Connections group policy folder. If you enable this policy, you must enter a keep-alive interval. The keep-alive interval determines how often, in minutes, the server checks the session state.

2012r2 SSL Certificate Installed but not being Used

$

Hi,

I deliberately let my SSL certificate expire because I got a new wildcard one. The new certificate is installed in Certificates - Local Computer / Personal / Certificates. "certlm" reports certificate is "OK". It's been there for a while.

Today, my clients started getting certificate warnings.

I found this "quick fix" link:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3042780/remote-desktop-listener-certificate-configurations-in-windows-server-2

The "quick fix" does not work .. I assume I cannot select it because it's not a "pfx" file but the page doesn't mention this is a requirement. It implies I just need the certificate, which is a .crt file. How do I make it into as "pfx??"

I also tried the manual fix with this "wmic" command but got a Invalid Parameter command which the page says can happen if the certificate is not installed, but IT IS INSTALLED!!!

What undocumented (thanks Microsoft) aspect of this am I missing?

Thanks,

Jeff

Shared Printer Keeps Disappearing - Installed on RDS Server from Local PC

$

Hello there,

Here is the setup. I have a user who is working remotely. She uses remote desktop for one of her database-heavy applications. Unfortunately this application has trouble printing to redirected printers, and can only print to shared or local printers. This is per the company that provides our tech support for the application (NCR CounterPoint), so we have a local USB printer installed on her local computer. It is shared from the local computer and then installed on her profile on the remote desktop server.

She connects back to the office over a VPN. The remote desktop server is located back at the office. Her internet connection is fairly fast and reliable. Average ping time from my PC at the office to her PC at home is about 53ms. I originally suspected the internet connection, but I'm not totally convinced that's that problem. We have plenty of other users set up the same way on the same server, and they don't have this problem.

Through troubleshooting, it's seems that the shared printer can take a few minutes to show up in the Devices and Printers of her profile on the remote desktop server. Other times, it never shows up at all. No matter how long she leaves the session open. I have tried reinstalling the shared printer on her profile on the remote desktop server and sometimes will receive an error message that says something like, "Unable to connect to printer". I will restart the print spooler on both her computer and the remote desktop server, but this doesn't seem to make a difference.

I've even tried making her a local admin on the RDS server and sometimes this will allow me to reinstall the printer. Sometimes I will still get the same error message. I have dug through the event logs of both the server and her computer, but can't find anything that indicates what might be causing this to happen.

I've had her gracefully sign out of the RDS session by going to "Start -> Sign Out", as opposed to just disconnecting it. It doesn't seem to make a difference. She also uses a Remote App for one of her other applications, so I'm not sure if this is conflicting with her RDS session in some way. Again, we have other users set up this way and they seem to be fine.

The main issue is that the shared printer from her local computer installed on the RDS server just doesn't show up sometimes, and then she can't print. When it does show up, it stays there the whole time until she closes the RDS session. The next time she opens it, the printer may or may not appear.

She is using Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. The server is Windows Server Standard 2016 64-bit.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

RDP Client doesn't disconnect

I am using RDP client on Windows 8.1 to connect to a remote computer running Windows 7 Pro. When I click the "disconnect" option in the remote window (next to "logoff" on the "Start" menu) nothing happens. I can still disconnect by closing the remote windows with the x button. It used to work fine.

Any idea ho to fix it?

External client RDP'ing to internal network (NLA on, ntlm disabled). CAn connect to DC but nothing else.

I may finally be out of my depth. (Clients are not on the domain) . Clients = windows 10; servers 2016

My network has its own DNS, and the FQDN of the servers are not within public DNS. remote clients use a public FQDN that matches the IP of the serves. Internal everything is <server>.private.net. outside it is <server>.<company name>.com (the servers are clueless about their public fqdn).

Here is the thing. NLA on and NTLM off. Clients can RDP into the domain controllers! Obviously there are certificate errors, but let's live with that for the moment. However all member servers get is a "this function request is not supported" "this could be due to credssp encryption oracle remediation". ALL SERVERS ARE FULLY PATCHED,

Lets not forget that... remote clients can connect to the domain controllers.

Obviously users are not connecting to the domain controllers, its just me with a user account

We do have a RDP gateway (but I am testing without it to narrow down the problem),

RDP port ESTABLISHED but fail to connect

We have a Windows 10 PC at work that we use often to RDP to from home. Recently, we are no longer able to connect and it gives an error"This computer can't connect to the remote computer. The two computers couldn't connect in the amount of time allotted". Checked all available solutions online, but still no luck. The netstat command shows the port is ESTABLISHED with the client PC.  And the log Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager%4Operational.evtx shows the following msg: "RD Session Host Server role is not installed". Googled it, but didn't see anything mentioning a Windows 10 RDP server needs that or how to install the role.

The firewall on the RDP server has been turned off temporarily. The PC had been restarted a few times. We can ping the PC, and we can access it using TeamViewer.

Any suggestion what to check next will be appreciated.

RDS 2016 - Start Menu freeze

$

Hi all,

We're currently experiencing issues at a random interval with regards to freezing start menu's on Server 2016 RDS Hosts.
When the freeze happens we can see the following items in the eventlog: Event ID 5973

Seems to be related on a per user base, as multiple users can connect to the RDS server but only a few of them are experiencing issues.

We are using User Profile Disks and Start Menu redirection. Any thoughts?

"Activation of app Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy!CortanaUI failed with error: Not enough storage is available to complete this operation. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information."

"Activation of app Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy!CortanaUI failed with error: The RPC server is unavailable. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information."

"Activation of app Microsoft.Windows.ShellExperienceHost_cw5n1h2txyewy!App failed with error: The remote procedure call failed. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information."

An error occurred when transitioning from CsrConnected in response to EvCsrInitialized. (ErrorCode 0x80070057) Only a reboot fixes

Hi,

Everyday I have to reboot our RDS on Server 2016 because of failed login attempts for all users. Getting these errors:

An error occurred when transitioning from CsrConnected in response to EvCsrInitialized. (ErrorCode 0x80070057)

The Windows logon process has unexpectedly terminated. Event 4005, Winlogon

There was an expired certificate error which is resolved. There was also a licensing issue, which is also resolved.

Removing a Server From a Farm thingy

$

Hello

I am very used to managing Server 2008R2 RDS where we have a 5-server load-balanced farm using the Connection Broker.

I am setting up another 5 server farm (Collection?) using Server 2012R2 and the new management tools, underlying changes to the technology and terminology is making my head hurt a little.

I have set up the farm/collection the way I want it - using Load Balanced (via DNS Round Robin) Connection Broker and that seems to be working fine in testing.

However I cannot work out how to remove a server from the load balanced group.  In 2008 I would log onto the server and uncheck the "Participate in Connection Broker Load-Balancing" box in Session Host Configuration.

Can anyone advise how to remove a server from load balancing in Server 2012R2?

Many thanks
Paul

Load Balancing of RD Gateway Servers in 2012 R2

$

Hi,

So I have a basic test environment in order to design an RDP solution. I have two former Terminal Servers that both have the Session Host roles installed, one has the Connection Broker role the other has the Web Access role and BOTH have the RD Gateway roles. So basically, my two Session Hosts are also both RD Gateways and one is the broker and the other the Web Access.

I can connect to all of my member servers via RDP happily through the Gateway and when I open the Gateway Manager I can see every connection made. Three connections per session (1 x TCP and 2 X UDP). My issue is there doesn't seem to be any Load Balancing between the two Gateway Servers. Both servers are in a Farm and I have a DNS RR created for the Farm name. Also a collection has been made to include both Session Hosts and DNS records created for the Collection name, in the collection properties I have set Load Balancing to 100 Relative Weight for both servers.

For whatever reason every single connection goes through just one Gateway, no matter how many connections I make the second Gateway server never gets any connections. In the event of restarting or shutting down the active Gateway my live connections migrate across to the still reachable Gateway and any new connections from then on will also be made through the reachable Gateway, even when the unreachable Gateway is back up and running.

Happy that my live sessions migrate to the available Gateway in the event of losing one but can't figure out why the sessions will only be made through one Server and not spread between the two.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Andy

Remote Apps, Remote Desktop, VDI

$

Hello,

We are trying to build a high performance Remote Apps system for our infrastructure. We have a handful of applications that are windows only, and we have a large number of Macs in our organization that need the same access as our Windows users. We want to expand our current delivery from just the few low resource apps (IE for certain IE only web portals, ms office, etc) we're serving, to also provide a great experience for users of our video surveillance system, as well as our security suite of door alarms, badges, locks, etc.

My supervisor asked me to build something above the norm. He then started introducing additional ideas, but I believe he has confused, or maybe just fused a few different systems. After doing a little research, it appears concepts he mentioned such as VDI may not even apply here.

I don't think we want or need VDI, or Remote desktop. What we want is strictly remote apps, and I would appreciate it if some folks could give me some engineering workflow suggestions for setting this up for good performance. I said we have a large number of Macs, but providing a reliable Remote apps system for say 100 CALs should suffice.

So Far I have 1 Dell Poweredge R730 with 1 Nvidia Grid K2 GPU, dual CPU and more than enough memory. 8 TB on 6 SAS disk (7.2k) with Raid 5. Server 2019 installed.

Some of the ideas , terms I've run into (But not completely sure they apply specifically to Remote apps):

  • Using VDI (Hyper V) to some how serve individual sessions or each user.
  • Using a Remote Apps server cluster (farm). Why?
  • Using multiple Session Broker servers. Why?

We currently have a single Poweredge R720 running Win 2012 R2 with no GPU acceleration. It functions Okay, but somewhat lackluster.

Any suggestions or good blogs greatly appreciated.

Windows RDWEB anonymous authentication

Hi All

We want to publish an application through RDWEB, and this app got its own user name and password (not ad integrated).

We want anyone from internet who can access our rdweb url (https://server.com/rdweb) to be able to see the app without prompts for credential and the user will open the app and enter his credentials to work with it.

Basically these users will be using their own laptops and would not have any credentials in company domain other than username and password for the app.

Any suggestions ?
