How to deploy extensions for Chromium Edge on terminal servers
Hello everybody,
A customer runs a fairly large terminal server farm and suffers hard from lots of websites loading tons of ads, JavaScript and other unneeded content. They use Chromium Edge, which works quite fine so far on the RD servers.
How can we deploy a Chromium Edge extension such as uBlock to all (2500!) users please?
Best Regards, Stefan Falk
Webcam Redirection on Server 2016
Hello,
currently we want to use Microsoft Teams on Windows Server 2016 RDSH and try to use webcam (integrated camera) redirection from local clients.
On client side (Windows 10 1903) i checked the webcam in the local devices and ressources.
On server side i set the following gpos:
- Allow audio and video playback redirection: Enabled
- Allow audio recording redirection: Enabled
- Do not allow supported Plug and Play device redirection: Disabled
- Do not allow video capture redirection: Disabled
Also we activated the redirection in the session collection. I noticed that here is no setting equal to the video capture redirection existing.
The integrated webcam is not being redirected to the server. Unfortunately we have not usb camera to test it with usb redirection.
Is ist possible to get our planned scenario working or is it not possible to redirect the camera into the remote connection? I read that it should be possible with server 2019, but i cannot find any information about server 2016.
I thank you in advance for your answers and ideas.
Kinde regard

UPD - recycle bin problem - Users cannot delete files randomly
Hello,
We have a problem with the bin of our UPD profils.
Our farm :
DCS01 and DCS02 : active directory
MGM01 : management of the RDS farm and SQL database for broker HA.
BRK01 and BRK02 : brokers
RDS01, 02,...07 : RDS hosts
FLS01 : data + upd location
Diagnostic :
User connects to the farm.
Randomly, users can delete, or not, files on their desktop, download, ... They are prompted for admin credentials.
We saw that when they cannot delete, the bin is empty, and their icon on c:\users is a yellow folder. When they can delete, their icon is the beautiful little hard drive, and the bin contains the previous deleted files :
Test :
Delete from other location outside UPD, like C:\test\test.txt : ok no problem,
Files are not in the public folder
regedit - profillist (in case of temp profil) : no temp profil
delete $recycle.bin in the upd
delete c:\$recycle.bin on each RDSH servers
disable the GPO with "Hide these specified drives in My Computer" and with the prevent access on my test user
restart all servers except DCs
Delete the $recycle.bin in the UVHD-template
shift + del : it's ok, no prompt for admin credentials, but we lose the bin..
Currently, we have these rights on the $recycle.bin of the UPD
I tried to add aclcls c:\users\%username%\$recycle.bin /grant %username%:F
But :
- when we have the problem (yellow folder icon), we can delete files without credentials prompt, 2 files are added in c:\users\%username%\$recycle.bin for each file deleted (see with dir command) but the bin on the desktop is still empty.
- when the session is ok (hard drive icon), we don't have the file deleted, previously with the problem, in the bin on desktop.
We tried too to mount the UPD on the FLS server, unassigned the letter, unmount the UPD.
We don't have more ideas. If you can help us please.
I hope I have been understandable
Thanks

A Remote Desktop Services deployment does not exist in the server pool
Hi All,
I have a number of virtual server based on mostly Widows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2016.
The scheme of the Remote Desktop Services deployment is following:
1 Dedicated Remote Desktop Gateway server
2 Remote Desktop Licensing servers
Around 100 Remote Desktop Services servers (each has RD Session Host, RD Web Access and RD Connection Broker roles installed)
All of a sudden on a huge proportion of them I can't manage Remote Desktop services and unable to manage a collection.
Tried to restart some servers - Doesn't help
Tried to restart Rd related services - Doesn't help
Checked RDCms SQL database - it s OK and not in any non-functional state
Tried to disable IPv6 protocol on NIC - Doesn't help
Checked roles installation status -
Checked Event Viewer logs and the only entry I could find was under Applications and Services Logs \ Microsoft \ Windows \ TerminalServices-SessionBroker \ Operational -
Please advise what might be the root cause of this issue and how to resolve it.
Thanks and Regards,
RDSH Licensing - license server does not have any installed licenses with the following attributes: Product version: Windows Server 2019 Licensing mode: Per User License type: RDS CALs
My RDSH servers have the following warning :
The Remote Desktop Session Host server is in Per User licensing mode and No Redirector Mode, but license server ovm-rdscal-srv1.esrf.fr does not have any installed licenses with the following attributes:
Product version: Windows Server 2019
Licensing mode: Per User
License type: RDS CALs
My RDSH Licesing server has the appropriate RDS CALs installed
So what ?
RD Gateway cannot use saved credentials (Win7 -> Win2012r2)
I am using RemoteApps. Everything works fine when I setup the RemoteApps using control panel. All Apps are available in the start menu and I can launch them fine. When I disconnect and reconnect it only works fine when I am not using a RDGateway.
As soon as I use a Gateway the reconnect fails and I have to re-enter my RD Gateway Server Credentials. When I input it again it works fine. It just won't save.
The credentials are in Credential Manager and appear to be correct. There are two:
- the gateway in the form: gateway.example.com
- the remote host: TERMSRV/rdhost.example.com
When the password prompt appears windows deletes the first credentials from credential manager.
The following events are logged in the eventlog on the client:
- RDP ClientActiveX is trying to connect to the server (rdhost.example.com)
- RDPClient_Gateway: An error was encountered when transitioning from AAStateAcquireAuthToken to AAStateError in response to 20 (error code 0x80070005).
- RDPClient_Gateway: An error was encountered when transitioning from AAStateCreatingOutChannel to AAStateError in response to 3 (error code 0x80070005).
- RDPClient_Gateway: An error was encountered when transitioning from AAStateInitializingTunnel to AAStateError in response to 6 (error code 0x80070005).
- The multi-transport connection has been disconnected.
Apparently I am the only one with this problem as google had nothing for me :(
External client RDP'ing to internal network (NLA on, ntlm disabled). CAn connect to DC but nothing else.
I may finally be out of my depth. (Clients are not on the domain) . Clients = windows 10; servers 2016
My network has its own DNS, and the FQDN of the servers are not within public DNS. remote clients use a public FQDN that matches the IP of the serves. Internal everything is <server>.private.net. outside it is <server>.<company name>.com (the servers are clueless about their public fqdn).
Here is the thing. NLA on and NTLM off. Clients can RDP into the domain controllers! Obviously there are certificate errors, but let's live with that for the moment. However all member servers get is a "this function request is not supported" "this could be due to credssp encryption oracle remediation". ALL SERVERS ARE FULLY PATCHED,
Lets not forget that... remote clients can connect to the domain controllers.
Obviously users are not connecting to the domain controllers, its just me with a user account
We do have a RDP gateway (but I am testing without it to narrow down the problem),
Windows does not remember “select your primary button” setting with Remote Desktop

RDP Web Client Not Displaying Correctly
I just installed RDWebclient on our Windows Server 2016. I have it fully patched and have restarted the server since installing again. I uninstalled and reinstalled RDWebclient on the server. However, the web page is not displaying correctly. For instance, instead of display "Username" above the username input field, it says "USER_NAME_LABEL" and for password it says "PASSWORD_LABEL". In the top left hand corner, it says "ALL_RESOURCES_TAB_LABEL". Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! (Sorry, I can't post a picture of it because my account is not validated).
RemoteApp GPO is not applying for users without local admin access
I am having issues publishing the RemoteApp URL via GPO to my users. It will only work if the user has local administrator access on their PC. This cant be how it's supposed to work? I am planning on deploying this to hundreds of users! If the user manually adds it into the Control Panel Item it works. They are asked to log on once, and they just use their own credentials and it works fine.
The event log tells me this. "Windows failed to apply the {4D2F9B6F-1E52-4711-A382-6A8B1A003DE6} settings. {4D2F9B6F-1E52-4711-A382-6A8B1A003DE6} settings might have its own log file. Please click on the "More information" link."
Notes:
- I have figured out that the GUID the RemoteApp settings.
- The GPO shows up as an applied GPO in gpresult /h.
- I am sure I have seen the error "access denied" somewhere but I cant remember where now.
Reference to this thread where another admin had similar issue: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/21362dc1-24be-48ff-8447-2ca80d068d8c/rds-remoteapp-url-gpo?forum=winserverGP#21362dc1-24be-48ff-8447-2ca80d068d8c
Anyone have a clue of what may cause this? Why does this only work for users with local administrator access? Is there maybe some other GPO that blocks it?
Cannot Publish a New App to Remote Desktop Services - Could not create a published application instance
Windows Server 2019, 1809. Single server at this time.
I have had RDS working for several months and running numerous applications. The certificate is up to date and all apps available run fine.
Added a new application to the server and then tried to publish the app. Upon saving, I received the error:
Could not create a published application instance on server [Internal server name].
However, it created the app in REMOTEAPP PROGRAMS. I then tried to update the app to set security settings and put the app into a subfolder. Upon saving, got the same error. I looked in event viewer and it just states the same thing. Even though the app is listed in REMOTEAPP PROGRAMS, it is not listed in the Win10 Remote Desktop App underApps or when using the webpage.
Per other forum listings, I tried re-applying my SSL cert and rebooting, to no avail. Anyone have any other ideas?
Can you enable keep alive on the client side and also the timeouts?
I enabled Keep alive through Group policy and applied it to the Windows Server 2008 R2. User is trying to connect to another Windows Server 2008 standard server from an RDP through Win2K8 R2 server. My question is can I apply these RDP policies on the client side(which is my Windows server 2008 R2), as many places I read that you can apply the same on the client side also.
Even though in the Group Policy it says REMOTE SESSION HOST (Host being the server that the client is getting connected to).
I applied the policy on the client side that would do the same on the Server side. Is this wrong? I wanted to ensure that even though we are not aware about the other side the timeout is present, I thought applying on my end at least would keep the session from not disconnecting.
Based on this I see that it says apply this policy, but it does not restrict only to Server but also the client that the RDP session gets connected.

A Licensing error occurred while the client was attempting to connect (licensing timed out).

RDS cals installation
I have the same problem.
I have a Win 2019 standard licensed, I have the RDS CAL licenses, but I still get the message I need the user or device CAL. I bought the USER cal, just a tracking id.
How to install USER CAL?
Domain users unable to logon to remote desktop server
My environment is :
1 x TS Server domain-joined Remote Desktop Session Host Role on Windows Server 2016 (Network Level Authentication enabled).
1 x APP Server domain-joined windows Server 2016 (Network Level Authentication disabled )
Both server windows firewall is disabled.
I have domain user called UserA on created DC. Both server local remote desktop users group already added.
When attempting to connect to APP server through RDP on TS Server then I got the following the error.
An internal error has occurred error.
I have checked regedit about NLA on both server.
TS Server : Y_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp SecurityLayer:2
APP Server : Y_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp SecurityLayer:2
Upgraded win 7 to win 10, now MS Office products display as white frame in remote desktop connection
I upgraded my desktop to Win 10 from Win 7 and now I can not access any Microsoft Office products on it when connecting from another computer using Remote Desktop Connection.
All MS Office products like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, when started on the RDC server system, displays only a white frame on the RDC client system.
It is a problem with the newly upgraded Win 10 server computer, as connecting to it with RDC on a Win 10 computer and a Win 7 computer produces the same white frames.
Other applications like Adobe Photoshop display normally in the RDC remote session. It is only microsoft office that shows a white frame.
Going back to the server computer and logging in locally shows the (for example) window with Word in it displaying completely normally locally, but as a white frame remotely.
I have seen other people posting with this problem.
I have deleted the graphics drivers on the server system then restarted to reinstall them - no change.
Does anyone know why all of a sudden MS Office applications running on a win 10 system upgraded from win 7 just display a white frame when viewed through a remote desktop connection?
RDP Client doesn't disconnect
Any idea ho to fix it?
Freddy
Remote Desktop Services License Server
I am looking for best practises when it comes to RDS License Servers in a greenfield environment.
If you build two I assume you put your full license count on both servers and they run as active/active? Or would you have one powered down and power on if required?
IF the RDS License server (configured for Per User licensing) went offline,is there a period where users will continute to log in or they can't until the License Server is back online?
