I have several workstation client machines running Windows 7 32-bit OS that I need to use as dummy terminals where they use terminal services to remote to a Windows Server 2008 R2 as rdp connections and RemoteApps/etc (not using HyperV). Problem is even
though I have terminal services set up using Windows Server 2008 64-bit (and the DC is on same box) the actual Print server is located on another box, a 32-bit Windows Server 2003 box.
The 32-bit Windows Server 2003 box is too old and slow to run any terminal services, and the Windows Server 2008 is not allowed (by policy) to run printer server services as a role, etc...
I'm trying to get these client machines (Windows 7 32-bit) to connect and print via terminal services to a bunch of QL 570 series Brother label makers printers. Each client machine has attached via USB a brother label printer.
The download page for this printer at the website has both 32 and 64 bit drivers. Do I install them both? The client/host is windows 7 32 bit but the server running TS is 64 bit but the print server itself is 32 bit... THe thing is, I only have remote access to these servers and when I try to install the QL 570 drivers on the TS and/or Printer server themselves, it asks as the last step for me to PLUG IN THE PRINTER DIRECTLY, as if I was installing in front of the servers, but I'm not... how can I work around this? Should I install the 32 bit or 64 bit version? Should I install these drivers on the windows server 2008 (TS) or the server 2003 (print server role)? or both?
I can see the control panel, printer and see that it says "redirected"... I even shared the printer on the client side, then try to add it in the TS instances, but it won't print. It doesn't print from either the "shared" printer or as "redirected".
I tried using Microsoft's "wizard" butt the tool is useless and just craps out each time.
