Server to client redirection for certain file type (2012)

Hi,

I am trying out Windows server 2012.

I am testing RemoteApp through Remote Desktop Services.

The app I'm using for my my tests is Dynamics GP10's client.

So far, it is working like a charm.

We have a plugin installed to easily generate lists (SmartList)

It enables users to export lists to excel. (It creates an excel file and tries to open it)

Question:

I would like to transfer generated excel files back to the remote connected client so it can be opened by it's local installation of excel.

Typically, doing something similar to redirecting print job back to the client's own printer.

Is there a way to do that?

I searched and found interesting information but still no easy way to do it.

I find lots of article about Citrix and XenApp that maybe able to do that.

Of course, I could install MS Office on the server but all my clients already have OEM versions of Office installed so we don't want to spend more money for additional Office licenses.

I did something similar long ago with a virtual Windows XP installation using vmware on a Mac OSXcomputer.

And with vmware, in that particular situation, it was very easily done.

Question:

It may be possible to do that with a script using commands ASSOC and/or FTYPE.

I read the help page explaining ASSOC and FTYPE syntax. But I'm not capable to figure out what to write to accomplish my goal.

So, if it can be done this way, is there anyone who could help me with how to build such a scrip?

Thank you
