RemoteApp - Access to apps on different servers

I have RemoteApp and RDWeb running on server 2008 R2, we will call it server1, so I know the basics.

I would like to run a Database app on server1 and an FTP server management app on server2 using RemoteApp or RDWeb.

Do I need to add the Remote Desktop Role to server1 and to server2, or is there a way to run server1 and server2 apps from the Remote Desktop code on server1 ?  If so, please explain.
