Win Server 2012 Remote App - Window focus problem

$

Hello,

when our clients are running a Remote App and set focus into another window or application, the focus automatically changes back to the running Remote App after about two minutes.

Does anyone know how to change this behaviour? It is really disturbing if you are, for example, writing an email and the window loses focus because of a running Remote App.

Greetings

rds 2012 r2 could not configure certificate on one or more servers

Hi,

Have setup a RDS 2012 R2 setup. I have 2 web access servers with DNS RR name, 2 clustered connection brokers, 2 session hosts. We created an internal (AD CA) certificate *.sub.domain.com and used it for both CB SSO, CB publishing and RDWA. The two RDCB certs install fine from the RDMS, but the web access certs seem to get installed (checked IIS and certstore on WA servers = Ok) however i get an error saying "could not configure certificate on one or more servers". After "level" says "Trusted""status" says Error and "State" says "Warning". The thing is, using web access from clients etc. works ok, cert is fine, seems to be installed correctly. What gives?

Hi,

is it true, what if user needs to shadow other user session on Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS he needs to be a local Administrator on that Terminal?

If yes, maybe there are plans to change that?

RDP v.8.0 problem with OpenGL

Hi everybody,

I need access via RDP to a remote workstation running a web application based on OpenGL.

The Client computer (the PC I'm accessing the Remote computer from) is 32-bit Win 7 Pro SP1.

The Remote computer is 64-bit Win 7 Pro SP1.

On both machines I updated RDP to v.8 following the article for 2592687 and update went fine since now the signal strength bars are shown on connection bar, so I guess I'm getting the full RDP v8 experience.

Anyway when it comes to graphics of the application, the result is the same: I still can't properly see it. Is further configuration needed? Is RemoteFx truly running on this RDP connection?

Thanks in advance,

K

Problems accessing 2012 Server Essentials via Remote Web Access

$

Hi

I have a deployed server running Server Essentials 2012 that is configured with Remote Web Access.

The server also has an application server running on the standard HTTPS port (tcp/443)

I have changed the IIS configuration for RWA to run on a non-standard port (tcp/4433) and authentication works fine.   When i click the link to access the server, the remote RDP client tries to connect to the server but comes back with an error telling me "the server address requested and certificate subject name do not match"

Upon examination of the certificate, it is actually for the application server running on tcp/443, not RWA on tcp/4433

Is there a way of manually configuring this so it connects to the correct instance ?

I tried to install the RD Gateway Manager but it appears not to work

Does anyone know how a workaround please ?

RDP connection hangs on "estimating connection quality"

Recently we started having trouble connecting to an RDP server (WinServer 2012) that has been working normally for at least four months now. There are about five to ten users connecting to it every day, and sometimes for some of them the connection hangs at "estimating connection quality" for a couple of minutes and then a window pops up saying "a licensing error occurred while the client was attempting to connect (licensing timed out)", sometimes it just hangs for a couple of minutes, and then connects and works normally, and sometimes a user gets disconnected from the session for no apparent reason.

The problem can go away after a server restart, or after we restart the machine that's trying to connect to the server, but restart doesn't always help, and I can't figure out the connection.

In the Server Manager under Remote Desktop Services I found an error:
"The Remote Desktop license server could not be registered as a service connection point in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS). Ensure that there is network connectivity between the license server and AD DS. To register the license server as a service connection point in AD DS, use ReviewConfiguration in the RD Licensing Manager tool.

We have only one server, so all the licensing is set up on the same server. In the Review Configuration window it says "The license server is registered as a service connection point..."

I spent a lot of time googling but none of the solutions I found seem to work for us

I can't figure out even to look for the root of the problem.

unable to start remote desktop connection broker

somehow I could no longer start remote desktop connection broker service. I noticed that Windows image acquisition (WIA) service could be started manually and then it stopped by itself. I am not sure if they are related or not. From event viewer, I see some errors as follows (may be related):

event 485 ESENT

tssdis (2916) An attempt to delete the file "C:\windows\system32\edbtmp.log" filed with system error 5 (0x00000005):"Access is denied." The delete file operation will fail with error- 1032 (0xfffffbf8).

Any clue or suggestion where I can look into?

Thank you very much!!!!!

Win 2008R2 CALs allocation

$

Hi,

Got a question regarding CALs allocation.

My work place has got 3 departments and looking to setup Remote Desktop Services.

I will setup 3 Session Hosts (TS) for each department.

There are 10 users in department A (group A), 20 users in department B (Group B), and 5 users in department C.

Department B only approved for 15 CALs's cost due to some users are part-time.

in calculation of concurrent users for all 3 departments, I am going to purchase 30 CALs not 35 CALs (per user license)

My question: is there any way that I can split the 30 CALs in to 3 groups so that 10 for A, 15 for B and 5 for C?

my thought is to setup 3 separate licensing server/role on separate VMs on domain and point each session host to one licensing server, will this work?

or there's other ways to limit Group B to 15 concurrent RD connections?

thanks

Gary

query to see what applications a user launched

We have setup a RDS farm and are wanting to check to see which users are using it.  I have been able to confirm user logons through the event logs.  Another thing we would like to check, is to see what applications that the user launched.  Is there any logs that can supply that information to see what applications a user launched during their RDS session?

RDS License Cal Question

$

We're in the process of migrating some of our management systems from 2008 R2 to 2012 R2 to gain some of the new powershell features and remote management capabilities.

We have set up a new RDS License Server running 2012 R2 in our development environment.  We migrated our old licenses to 2012 CALs during the migration.  When I perform a licensing diagnosis, I show that we have Overused our 2008 R2 licenses but we still have 2012 Licenses available.

Am I doing something wrong?  We have to migrate our production environment soon and I want to be sure that I do this right.  From reading the Interoperability Matrix (Link), it shows that a 2012 CAL can be used to connect to 2008 R2, 2008, and 2003.  Why would the Licensing Diagnosis show BuiltInOverUsed on the capacity?

Do I need to worry about it or just make sure we have the licenses available to cover all our connections?

By the way, this seems to be the most convoluted and difficult process in Microsoft.  No one can ever seem to get the *correct* answer, more than once in a row.

2012 RD Services - only administrator can connect through rd Web portal to RD Session Host

$

RemoteApp works fine for all users.  When I try to create a collection for a Host Server (so users can RDP to a terminal server) only the domain administrator works.  I have even tried another user that is a domain admin and still can not connect.  If I use the same user and manually start the remote destkop connection client (the old fashioned way) it works.

What am I missing?  Thanks!!

Server 2012 RDS - newly opened applications don't receive focus

Hi,

We're having an issue that occurs when you're already working in an RDP session to a 2012 RDS/TS, you open up a new application and it doesn't receive focus. It's getting compounded by users thinking there is a problem with the server/application and logging off and back on again to resolve it.

I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem before and knows of a fix for it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Issue with RD Virtulisation Host (Externally) in Windows 2012R2 Standard

$

Hi Guys,

I have a somewhat odd issue with RD Virtualisation host delivered via RD Web Access on my connection broker. Basically our deployment has a connection broker, RD Gateway, license server and RD web access components on 1 x server and then we have various other servers running RD Session Host and RD Virtualisation Host.

Everything is working just fine, the RDWeb portal shows all the apps on the Session Hosts and these run fine internally and externally, however the Virtualisation Host only works within the same network so for example if I open any of my collections from RD Web inside the same network its fine, if I open them outside from the internet they load to the point of initialising remote connection and then fail.

All other apps and full desktops via the session host work externally and if I manually NAT a VM running in the hyper v used for virtualisation host to an external IP I can connect via RDP. I’m very sure it’s not my firewall (which is a Cisco ASA 5550 for info) as all other apps are working just fine, it’s something with the virtualisation host, and I can’t work out what! The only meaningful error I get is on the event log of the virtualisation host server which is:

Remote Desktop Virtualization Host failed to get redirection authentication information from the virtual machine [Win-7VDI6] .
Hresult: 0x8000FFFF

I’m not really sure where to go from here I’m pretty sure it can’t be a firewall issue, but if anyone has any pointers that would be great.

Thanks

Joe

RDS 2012 issues (Outlook freezing and 'Right mouse button not working')

$

Hello All,

We are experiencing some issues in our RDS environment. The weird thing is that it happens to only a handful of users.

RDS Environment

Our RDS environment consist of a connection broker and 2 application servers. All of which are running Server 2012 (non R2). All applications are started as a remoteapp from a Windows 7 or 8(.1) update 1)) machine. Users working on a axel thin client do not have this issue.

The Problem(s)

1). While using outlook some users complain that outlook freezes the whole time. Sometimes this just happens once and than it works fine. Other times it happens multiple times a day. They experience it while searching for mail, or browsing trough their mailbox, sometimes even while switching folders.

During the freeze a balloon pops-up and displays trying to connect to exchange. When i run a ping from the machine with the problem the servers report a ping time of <1ms. When i redo the ping on a server i don't see any difference. We have already tried to repatch the 'problem' users, this had no effect. (Even when we repatched them near another user with no problems.) We tried disabling hardware acceleration, i've read that this sometimes could solve the freezing issue. Although in our case it didn't help at all.

2). This issue involves the full office suite. Sometimes, some users report that after an period of using ctrl + c/x/v/z etc. they cannot use the ribbon to make selection, and their right mouse button seems to dysfunction.

Example: Cannot switch signature; cannot color cells; cannot switch printers.

The solution we have found that works for a limited amount of time is logging off their session on the connection broker.

I haven't able to find what could be casing this issue, and i cannot reproduce it myself. Although i'm using these shortcuts all the time.

This is all the relevant information i can think of for now. In case i've missed something i will provide the missing information.

Appreciate all the help/thoughts to help me fix (or even narrow down) the issues.

Kind Regards,

Niek

RemoteFX Media Streaming between (VD) Windows 8 clients

Is the new RemoteFX Media Streaming option also possible/ working from a vd w8 and a w8 client?

Beside that there is some more questions i have about this;

- if possible, then what if the vd is w 8 and the client is w7 using rdp 8.(1)?

- if possible, is this option also possible for only w7 solution instead of the full redirection?

- how to get one of the above working?

Of course the last option would be great due to the fact that we have a w7 environment where we are in trouble with high def movies on a slow wan.

Thanks for the answers!
